f8500 samsung worth it?

I just bought a PN51F8500 Samsung Plasma from BestBuy for $1k.

I don't think 4K is mainstream ready and the current OLED models are way out of my price range.

I am not sure about buying into a technology that is disappearing, should I return it?

Plasma is still the best until OLED prices come down which will take a minimum of 3 more years. Plasma has the best blacks and viewing angles. Going off center when viewing an LED will result in a loss of color. If you have a party, people sitting on the sides have poor color on LED.

The only real problem with plasma is that they produce heat. It's hot where I live most months, so I wouldn't get one. Your model is known to have a buzzing sound. If you don't have the buzz, you have a good model.

My suggestion is keep the TV but buy the Best Buy or Square Trade insurance. If it breaks within 3 years, you get a full refund for money toward an OLED. Technology always changes and I feel right not is the time to buy something to hold you over for OLED. Next year's new tech will be quantum dots but plasma screen will still have better quality. Quantum dots are to help LED screen viewing angles and color be on par with plasma.

keep it....I bought the F5300 last year after debating buying a 4k....I couldn't be happier. they (plasmas) are great tv's

over here the samsung F8500 is the last and best plasma available (after the panasonic ZT60)

I'd keep it. I recently had to replace an older plasma I bought in 2007 for $3000 and went with a LG PB6600 60" I got for $599 before Christmas (due to Plasmas being discontinued) rather than spending much more money on a OLED or LED LCD and I couldn't be happier. I'm getting a performance of a much more expensive TV at a fraction of the cost. (With much better motion - especially watching sports - which is its main purpose). I did have the TV Calibrated.

OLED will be my next TV once prices drop more.

I would keep it if you can live without 4k for now.

I don't like the current LCD sets. I have a70" Vizio P Series, and the color and contrast changes off angle are pretty bad. Even straight on, the edges are slightly washed out compared to the center.

I am thinking about returning it for an IPS model with better viewing angles until OLED is affordable.

Keep it. I'm keeping my 55" Panny plasma until I can afford a decent 70" 4k set, which will be a few years yet.
