You don't need to be a child about it. Monogamy isn't desirable for a lot of people out there. So long as everyone is up front about what they're looking for, why should anyone else care if some favor triads or polyamory? These arguments aren't excuses for going behind anyone's back on anything.

If both parties agree to a non-monogamous relationship - unsure how this "destroys your relationship & family"?

Not everyone has the sames values/desires as you -

OP, why do you think it's a strictly binary choice between "be strictly monogamous" vs "totally destroy my relationships and family"?

I would let the OP blow me, but it might destroy my marriage. Hell, I'm willing to give it a try if he is.

Of course it's unnatural.

You're supposed to spread your seed arround as much as possible. That's how your species gets stronger. That's how life works.

Why do you think sex feels so good?

It's obviously unnatural, if it were natural nobody would cheat. Everyone has had some urge to cheat before, whether they acted on it or not, jut by virtue of being attracted sexually to other people besides their partner. You are fighting cravings to not fuck the shit out of everything.

For one, because kids don't get a choice in the matter; their Mom & Dad may be cool with it, but the kids aren't equipped to give their consent for that.

I'm kind of amazed this thread is back-firing. Am I the only one who thinks that a relationship is an actual commitment to another person? Do you guys all know successful, happy couples/families who regularly fuck other people? Seems awfully selfish and lazy to me-why be in a relationship in the first place if you're not serious about committing to it?

What gets me about this article is that she writes it as though she's telling us something new-like we haven't all already realized that we have sexual urges for people besides our partner. But that doesn't mean acting on those urges has no consequences...and people who can't control themselves will use her logic to justify their selfish actions.

edit-Throughout the Animal Kingdom, we see lots of things that are "natural" that we don't subscribe to as human beings, since we're a bit more evolved. How many species do you see where the sex is always consensual? Many, many male species "rape" females regularly. Animals also kill each other all the time. It's "natural". Doesn't mean we, as human beings follow through on similar instincts all the time.

I find it funny people want an excuse for their lack of self control. Don't forget this "unnaturalness" has undesired consequences.

We're winning the race to the bottom.....

Really it's none of anyone's business what goes on in one persons relationship. That is the biggest issue. Too many nosy people wanting to push their morals and values on everyone else (meanwhile, usually they are guilty of the same things or far worse). It's up to the individual relationship to decide what is acceptable and what isn't. Everyone else can piss off.

Of course it takes sacrifice and discipline to have a successful monogamous relationship. And when two people are willing to make those sacrifices it can be very rewarding. No one is saying anything negative about that.

But at the basest of levels - it is unnatural. Life, by definition, wants to spread as much as it can.

And the reverse is true -- if its so unnatural, why have people been monogamus for eaons of time, and are still down to this day?

It's seems that only whores say stuff like this while monogamus people think its as natural as breathing.

Lol.. Exposed! People want validation to whore out.

Who wants to believe CNN link?

Media people just like rest - employees that follow employers rules/orders...
They GET PAID for what they say/write...

Why didn't they write in that article about SWANS?

Article is written to get people's(who, and most) would believe - to lower Human Moralsm, just like gay/lesbian propaganda...
1rst, low moral people is easier to control....
2nd...The World is overcrowded and need to reduce families with strong bond, strong family values...

When people will be "messing up around"...those less likely will produce children - abortion..etc...

Before believing OP posted article, ask your parents, grandparents...what do they think about...Ask...who's offspring are you - maybe your parents were "messing up" at that time...

NATURE? With a nature is okay...stupid humans are messing up with a nature - over usage of Earth's good...SUV's, oil.... for PROFIT...
Humans are doing everything to end human race - species...simply heading to The Cliff....

Humans aren't most intelligent species on The Earth...During Thailand tsunami, no species other than humans died...wonder why "not so intewlligent" fled "scene" of tsunami?

There's some webcams of bird nests that humans could learn something...

I don't like the article either, but you're an idiot.

Oh, and it did mention swans. And the birds' nests. Nice reading skills there. Dumbass.

The exact opposite is true. It's pretty hard to get people to act against their own self-interest, much less the interests of their friends/family/country, without having some nebulous moralism behind it.

Not an argument against morality per se, just a note that people will do far worse things for righteousness than they ever would for greed.

Dieting is unnatural too. I have an instinctual urge to stuff my face with every available bite of food but that would make me a fat bodied slouch. we can connect actions with consequences and that is what separates most of us from animals. unfortunately, many people make the simpler choice which is why we're headed towards idiocracy.

If it's unnatural, why does it exist so often elsewhere in nature? I recall some rodent where they even identified a gene for it.

I blame religions for being so odd and cult like to force themselves and their children to live an unnatural life anyway. It is also not natural to pee and poo in complete isolation either but you can thank Christians for that.

it's also unnatural to shit in a toilet and wipe your ass, but it's unsanitary to not do so. take your pick...

Natural:

Killing an infant so that you can impregnate the (former) mother.
Males fighting each other, with the winner getting to forcibly rape as many females as he likes.
Shitting upstream from where you drink.

Unnatural:

Harnessing electricity to do work.
Having enough of a food surplus that less than half of a percent of your population has to be dedicated to agriculture.
Hell, agriculture.

What a stupid fucking argument 'It's unnatural!' is.

Um, most people are not monogamous.
