The site is just the current in social networking site, 7 years the same idiots on my block were harping me for not having a profile on Friendsters. a few years later it was "you don't have a Myspace OMG!" today they carry on about Facebook. Friendster does the same thing MS, FB, Tagged & all the other sites too. And these same people will be carrying on about a new site in a few years. 7 years ago Friendster was unstoppable, than MS was unstoppable. Today FB's unstoppable, but that will fade. I stay away from fads, and yes FB is a fad it will be replaced with whatever the next it social networking site is. Would be ironic if it was Friendster again lol.

Well maybe I started the trend, because I have been avoiding social networking sites since Six Degrees. and that was over a decade ago. Since it's a current fad either way no matter what I do I'm avoiding a fad *shrug* But at least by not partaking in having a FB account I don't add to their number of users. Maybe I'll make a Hi5 profile. And run around telling everyone I see they need to make a Hi5 profile and they're missing out, Since half the people won't remember it, and the other half never knew about it in the first place. They might buy into my bullshit and think Hi5 is the next great social networking site.

It's not like you're avoiding it to save yourself trouble of wasting time partaking in something that will be going away. You are avoiding it because it's popular. People are on FB because that's where everyone is... same thing with AIM. Why would you be on MSN if all your friends are on AIM? Who cares if it's the current fad. Did you avoid AIM because that was destined to become a dinosaur? That's a ridiculous reason - we know the real reason - and you do too. Who else do you dislike? MS? Walmart? Better yet - which big / popular things do you actually like?

I remember going through this sort of discussion with people all gung-ho about open source stuff. Big companies are the devil. Money = evil. Long live open source & the little guys! I have no problem supporting underdogs, but you can see how annoying that position can get.

On another note, Facebook has come a long way with features, driven by its popularity. The others died because they were just not gaining members - they had nowhere near the same features. Cycle fail. Don't even try to compare what we have now with past failures. Even if something surpasses FB, it is not going to be seen as a failure.

I like plenty of popular companies, I wear almost nothing but one of the most popular clothing brands in the world, everywhere I go I see sombody with the same shirt I have on. I drink Sam Adams, I eat Burger King. Internet wise I don't like sites that I'm tied into. My friends actually did use AIM and I hated it, I used Trillian so I could chat with them. I'm not avoiding FB because it's popular, I'm avoiding it because I don't like it. Hell I own an iPod, it doesn't get more popular than that. *shrug*

they're not? MS has groups, you can leave comments for everyone to read, you can make shit private, you can play mafia wars. You can update your "what I'm doing every second of the day" status on both etc. It might not be 100% identical, but in the end the do the same thing which is network people. FB has features MS doesn't and MS has features FB doesn't. But the core is identical.

My current friends are the friends I've had as long as I can remember, and will be my friends for as long as I live. I'm not a person who follows fads, when I do something I stick with it until it dies, not until it loses popularity. Hell I still go on Effnet every day, IRC would be considered an epic fail compared to any other method of communications today. And I'll still continue to use it until there are no servers left to connect to.

My current friends are the friends I've had as long as I can remember, and will be my friends for as long as I live. I'm not a person who follows fads, when I do something I stick with it until it dies, not until it loses popularity.
