I played the demo and just got Company of Heroes. Funny thing is I think Faces of War does it for me more than Company of Heroes.

Going to be an expensive winter in terms of games.

the game is total crapo... totally eclipsed by company of heroes that was released on the same day..

CoH hasnt scored below a 90% yet..
brilliant game flat out.

If you like Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War, you will like CoH since that is all it is.
DoW + WWII skin and units, no surprise it is doing well. It is enjoyable to play but I think FoW is going for a different type of RTS.

Um you are so mistaken its not even funny...
have you even played the game?

this game does not even resemble DOW except for the capture the points to get your resources..
that is about the ONLY simularity..

please dont review products you dont own..

they are on 2 different engines for 1 thing... CoH is MUCH deeper game on many levels..
physics actually matter and play a huge role in the game.

the story is amazing in almost a movie like way.. DoW is arcadiey and feels like crap where CoH feels and reacts very beleiveably...

the game absolutly is setting a new bar for RTSs that unless you can compare with your game is basically toast..

look at the reviews.. play the full game over the demo... and you will see it has very little in common with DOW..

Uh I have been playing the game non-stop since Friday bunkie, so yes I own the game. I also own DoW and both are very similar in game play and how you progress. To say they arent is ignorant. Not that I think it is a bad thing because I found DoW very fun to play.

What physics do you speak of? The ragdoll effects of infantry units being blasted into the air by artillery? You had the same effect in DoW with its arty.

As for reacting believably? I love it when my tanks roll backwards toward the enemies AT guns or Infantry squads enter one door but exit out another and right into the line of fire

The same premise or basis for point collection and upgrading capture points is used in CoH as DoW and the gameplay is very similar. Like I said, very similar but a WWII theme instead.

Sorry I disagree wholeheartedly... its like comparing Pong to Rockstars table tennis..
..

by physics im refering to the fact that nothing is static in this game opening the game up for different fights every time even on the same map..
until now rubble was just an obsticle.. now its real cover.. the ground when pounded with artillery craters and allows units to use the shell craters as foxholes..
that a building can be stratigically destroyed and then used as cover...

even soldiers heroes of WW2 or faces of war (basically feels like a expansion than a new product by the same team) doesnt work this way... dont get me wrong I liked soldiers.. and faces.. but it cannot stand up to CoH in any way shape or form.

Here are a couple similarities off the top of my head:
1) Capture/upgrade/defend points (HUGE part of the gameplay).
2) Build units by squad.
3) Upgrades that are specific to the unit (not universal).
4) Squad reinforcements.

I just described the basic interface of both DoW and CoH, which is more or less what you learn in the tutorials.

I think it's unfair to call CoH a skinned version of DoW though. That'd be like calling WC2 and Starcraft the same game, with different skins. The basic style of gameplay is similar, but the games are altogether different.

DoW had cover like this, although not as much made from your actions as in CoH. When you placed units on the terrain it showed a positive or negative modifer for the terrain.

The map is more destructable in CoH as it is a new game. I wont be surprised if the new expansion for Warhammer 40K brings along many of the things we see in CoH.

Dont get me wrong, I think it is a fun game as I found DoW very enjoyable. And it doesnt surprise me people are more interested in CoH's type of RTS. I think FoW is geared more towards another type of RTS.

I am sure many people dont like the Combat Mission series of WWII games either, but I find them unbelievably addicting even 6 years after the release of Combat Mission Beyond Overlord. It is just a taste thing.

the expansion of DOW is using its same old engine.. (demo is on the DVD) dont expect HAVOK engine on the expansion as they would have to rewrite the entire game on the new engine.

i wonder if Faces of War was the one they reviewed horribly on X-Play? they said there were tons of problems with it. all i remember was that it was a WWII RTS and it wasn't CoH.

How can a RTS just be one single squad through out the entire game? No base building, no resources, no troop building or deployment. It's more like Ghost Recon in a WWII setting.

man, the controls are horrible. trying to command a squad is a major pain. CoH was way better as far as that stuff goes. too bad, because Faces of War seems like it might have been a good game.
