For the love of all that is holy, please put me out of my misery of buying/fitting ridiculously overpriced pieces of plastic to my devices.

If you get one of your robots on your dust-free production line to apply a decent screen protector (hey, you're already fitting crappy disposable ones for shipping). I will love you forever.

It would be nice because all those used phones i like to buy will have a better chance of their screens being in nice condition.

Back in the dumbphone days you could buy an entire new outer shell for the phone for around $10. Obviously this wouldn't work today with the way smartphones are constructed.

They want to sell those accessories! Though, a lot of the newer phones (lumia comes to mind) seem to have very durable screens anyway

lol i had Spigen screen protectors for my HTC Titan 2 and SGS2, and luckily they came with 2. Despite using a rocketblower for my DSLR and rubber gloves to apply the screen protector I messed the first one up for both phones.

I'm guessing manufacturers can't really promote their screens as scratch free/Gorilla Glass etc if they were then to apply screen protectors out the box.

Sellers know gadget freaks will pay big bucks to protect their devices, the margin of the decent screen protectors must be ridiculous, these things must cost pennies to manufacturer.

Yes I have just fitted one to a Nexus 7.

you could just leave the factory protector on... however that's typically worse in every single way compared to a standard screen protector.

My coworker dropped his naked SG3 the other day, scratch on his front screen. A screen protector would have likely prevented it. He now has one on it.

I have no case on my Atrix 2 but a screen protector. I would take a screen protector over a case if i had to pick one as there are plenty other ways for a screen to get ruined.

I see no point in a screen protector. Cheap plastic that ruins the optical quality of the screen, causes obvious internal reflections from light interface changes, leaves bubbles, and changes the feel of the screen. No thanks.

Instead, if you want to keep your screen protected, stick it in a baggie. Or with the GS III, get the flip cover.

What does naked mean? Yes, no case.

He was unlucky on how it feel and that his screen hit something and now has a scratch. He has a rubberl case with a screen protector now.

This is how I feel too...I used to use screen protectors but I realized I really just don't like them for all the reasons you just mentioned. My GS3 screen has a few minor scratches now, but they're only visible at just the right angle/lighting...doesn't bother me at all.

Screen protectors won't prevent shattering if you drop the phone anyway, so I see the whole thing as kinda pointless.

Also, other recommendations:

1) Don't drop your phone. In the 5 years of owning a smartphone (and 2 years owning a feature phone before that), I've never dropped my phone. And yet there are people who seem to drop their phone multiple times per year. I think it's because people seem to think that the subsidized price of the phone is its actual cost, because if they knew the cost of replacing your average smartphone was $499 and up, they would definitely take better care of it.

2) Don't stick your phone in the same pocket as your keys. And if you have your phone in a purse, put it in a separate compartment!

Common sense really.

I think people know not to deliberately drop their phone [shock]. People also know that 'just don't put it in a pocket with your keys' is not enough to avoid small scratches and how tolerant they are of said scratches. Some people don't care at all, some do. There's no point trying to tell people what should or shouldn't bother them. We've all owned phones for a while now and know the deal. I really struggle to believe you've carried something round everywhere, every day for 7 years and not dropped it once.

I don't have those problems, then again i don't use crappy protectors. And any slight loss of quality in which u speak of in which is lol-really-nothing is far far better than a permanently damaged screen.

Bought a cheap Android tablet recently, came with a perfectly fitted screenprotector out the box. You have no idea how much this pleases me.

A girl I know still had the factory plastic covers on her Droid 4, the kind with little diagrams showing where the volume is, etc. I laughed. My sister needed to get her laptop fixed, I had her take it to a friend (lives a few hundred miles away). He said the plastic was still on the touchpad but wearing through, still plastic over camera, etc. Of course she didn't know why it was broke, he reported the giant dent in the hard drive cover on the bottom lol.
