Failing 7200.8

I still love Seagate, but I think my 7200.8 is dying out on me.. (250gb)..

Has anyone's 7200.8 failed yet?

I've seen 3 failing, 2 80 Gb and 1 120 Gb.
Not sure if they were 7200.8.
Warranty replaced them.
I just don't know how old they were.

7200.8s weren't that old.... wtf.. cant really hear death click noises either cuz my fans are too loud.. i cant even hear them access.. ive had too many crashes recently, too many reformats, and today XP x64 died on install. Hard drive light went solid. I'm almost certain this HD is dead.

Why do I have such crazy HD issues all the time? My last rig killed me with the 75GXP... =[

Yeah, just talked to my friend that lost 2 80 Gb, and they are 7800.7.

I lost 3 Maxtor, gave up on Maxtor.
I have 1 WD SE ATA100 8 Mb works like a charm. Very good HD, but I think it's a little bit louder.
And the last one I bought it was a 300 Gb Seagate 7200.8 SATA.

Got some cooling for HD?

I've been warning about the 7200.8 nit i gave up since there are 10 to 1 peopel that love it versus the people that actually understand the cold hard truth. SEagate 7200.8 lacked horribly in reliability versus awesome the 7200.7s

Hell, maxtor is more reliable than the 7200.8s that everyone recommends even though maxtor is "supposedly" a unreliable company

Maxtor in my experience is so bad I would go as far as to say they just "don't work"
they ALL fail... they are SO bad it's absolutely sickening. I have many 7200.8's in my company now which replaced dead Maxtor junk and they are all working fine. I've yet to have a single Seagate hard drive fail since I've been replacing the Maxtors with them.

Well I have a 7K250, and I've heard of a death click before. I've heard it click once (which happens say once every 6 months?) drive works FLAWLESSLY, even though I've heard clicks before. I've got a 2nd 7K250 in my computer and it works flawlessly too.

I'm quite disappointed with my7200.8 =/

Yes. I have cooling. 120mm fan blowing at it. Temps are 35 at load, but usually low 30s/high 20s...

yea mine died on me 2 weeks ago i need to send it in still. my 2 raptors in riad 0 are SILENT comparied to my 7200.8 it was very strange

Had the partition disappear on my 250gb Seagate 7200.8 several months back. I was able to recover everything with some recovery software. I've run drive checks on it since, and extended tests or file system tests bring back errors that don't seem to get fixed even with a format and re-partition. I've been meaning to send it back to Seagate for months now but their POS website form didn't work with FF, IE, or Opera. However its been flawless since that day, so I don't know if I should RMA it or not, plus I'd only do it if I could get an Advance RMA so I'd have a drive to copy all my crap over to.

yea I need that.. plus when I went home for break I found my parents TRASHED my DFI box, meaning I lost all my SATA cables. I don't even know how to save my data now except to transfer 60 gb of it at a time over to my smaller HD and then copy it over to the new SATA drive...

i have 4 western digital HDs. None have failed me, even though they are a bit noisy. My lone seagate is getting a weird beep. My computer can't detect it half of the time. I just recently burned all the important info into dvds.

My 250GB SATA 7200.8 started getting problematic a couple weeks ago. I RMA'ed it and they're still processing my request. It was <5 months old when it started developing problems with the smooth chip overheating, requiring extra ventilation for it to work. In other news, my Maxtor 200GB HDD that I got during black friday developed a 4KB in December(could be earlier but I only found out in Dec).

I can't get my data off so now what.. I need to go to fvcking Fry's and buy me a drive and then use it as storage and then return it? BASTARDS.

I too have noticed a large amout of complaints abotu the 7200.8 line. I don't personally own one, and I've read enough to be very thankful for that. The 7200.7's were excellent, and I'm sure the .9's will also be great. They just had an issue somewhere in the .8 design that has most likely been eliminated in the .9's (at least I hope).

For now, I'm just sticking with good 'ole reliable WD.

Well,wtf, I just bought 2 200GB SATA Maxtors to use as raid 0 in my new as yet unstarted rig.Got em cheap, $90 bucks apiece. So now I bought junk??? I have been using Maxtors for years now with no probs. Had plenty of probs with other peoples WD and Seagate drives tho. So, say it aint so!!!
