Edit: Looks like NewsNerd is a junk website like The Onion

The Iverson story has been making the rounds on social networks, with TheNewsNerd‘s take so far topping 28,000 shares. There’s one little thing you might want to read before you go posting it and saying “such a shame, such a shame.”
“The stories posted on TheNewsNerd are for entertainment purposes only. The stories may mimic articles found in the headlines, but rest assured they are purely satirical.”
That’s right: TheNewsNerd is a satirical site. Like The Onion, but less funny.

That’s not to say that everything’s rosy for Iverson. Allen lost his $4.5 million Atlanta home to foreclosure last year, and Iverson’s been dogged by creditors and attorneys for considerable sums of money.
Still, sources reportedly familiar with Iverson’s situation say that he has an account worth $32 million that he cannot withdraw in bulk. Iverson won’t have full access to the funds until he turns 55, but it reportedly pays him $1 million annually. Iverson will also have access to his NBA pension in about five years. That pension will pay him roughly $8,000 per month.

Allen Iverson Seen Begging for Change Outside Atlanta’s Lenox Mall

“I don’t even have money for a cheeseburger,” said Iverson.

Troubled former NBA basketball player Allen Iverson was seen begging for change outside of Lenox Mall in Atlanta. Several mall patrons reported a man with a disheveled appearance harassing them for change.

When security arrived, they were shocked to see it was none other than basketball legend Allen Iverson. Iverson was asked to leave the premises by mall security.

Over his NBA career, Iverson made over $154.5 million in salary. The 39-year-old also racked up quite a bit of income in endorsements, bringing his income to over $200 million.

Iverson blew through his money at an alarming rate on gaudy jewelry, expensive cars, and other frivolous purchases. In 2012, a Georgia judge garnished his wages to satisfy a $859,896.46 debt to a jeweler.

It is believed that he is now homeless and bounces around from home to home.

Though the 76ers legend is currently bankrupt, he does have a $30 million trust with Reebok, which he cannot access until he is 55-years-old.

Very few people didn't see this coming when he was in the NBA. He had a giant posse that he paid for and blew threw money.

I've read that Shaq started out the same way, and his accountant told him "you're going to end up broke, without a dime to your name, if you don't stop." Shaq then went back to school and learned all about finance and has a few successful businesses he opened.

There are a lot of people willing to take advantage of these rags to riches type of guys. Several dealerships are willing to give loans for Ferraris to guys without any credit, the catch is it is at like 30%+ interest. They end up paying way more for that car, just to look like a baller. Add in they overpay for a large house, pay for all their friends, buy expensive jewelry and clothes, go to high end restaurants and bars / clubs. All without any planning or experience with handling money like that.

I would not be against the NFL and NBA forcing rookies to go through money management course after getting signed.

And it is very likely he wasn't the one that made it. His accountant or Reebok said "this guy is in for some hard times in the future, we better set him up."

Why doesn't he do like kids birthday parties or something? I'm sure parents would pay $500 for their kids to hang out with a former NBA player for an afternoon. Probably many other ways to cash in on his former fame.
If each person from his posse would support him for a year, he could make it to 55.

Yeah, I was never a big fan of Shaq as a player but he's no dummy. He may have started out like Iverson but he wised up soon enough. I doubt he'll ever be short of money. Sadly, Iverson is not likely to see that trust fund unless he can get someone to front him for it. There are companies that will pay you a lump sum for an annuity like the lottery but I don't know if a trust fund like that can be used like that...

I'm shocked that he has not figured out a way to borrow against the trust and burned through that cash too.

Apparently, it isn't just sitting there waiting for him.

He'll only get half of it being already divorced from ex-wife. 16 years waiting (if he lives) will be the agonizing part.
