Yawn...another thread full of stupid children blathering that something is just "a shitty console port" because it comes out on multiple platforms at once. The only thing that will satisfy you emo dweebs is that games be PC-exclusive FOREVER because if a console version came out three years later, you'd still bitch that it was "a shitty console port". Get over yourselves or quit gaming! :|

Check forum, this is PC Gaming forum not console forum so PC gamers here have the right to complain.

PC Gamer Sweden gave it an 81% and said it is "Oblivion with guns".

I would play Oblivion with guns. I didn't have any real interest in Fallout 3, but if it is a lot like Oblivion, I will probably pick it up.

Ditto that. Not to mention the swedish reviewer is a long time fallout fanboi so had serious expectations along those lines. I tried playing F and F2 earlier this year and they just don't hold up well, but I didn't expect them too. So never having been a Fallout fan, I have no preconceived notions for F3 to destroy and no 8 years of sequelless angst to satisfy. As such I'll enjoy it purely on it's own merits, and I spent 100+ hours in Oblivion, so this sounds like good news to me. The reviews up on Metacritic are 100 and 90 for the PC version, 100 for the xbox version.

I am saddened by the rash of negative reviews for the two games that I've gotten excited about recently and the only one's I have ever pre-ordered (Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2). At a time in my life when I should be spending money on food and textbooks, I find myself instead scrimping and saving to buy PC components and these games. Maybe I am just a naive noob who is high on the initial euphoria of getting back into PC gaming for the first time since middle school.

With less and less time for gaming, what am I supposed to do? Hold out for the next big release that will be the second coming of gaming and not just another silly prophet? If it's not one thing (bad gameplay), it's something else (DRM). I just want to play what few games I have time for and be happy. That being said, after reading all this back and forth on these two games, I've decided to keep them both; they will find a loving home on my PC. And I hope they cause me less trouble than the red-headed step-children others are making them out to be.

Besides, they can't be worse than this...

Negative reviews on farcry2? show me 1... meta critic is showing it at 88... thats pretty freaking solid game. most of the reviews are glowing.. what do you people expect 10s?
there is NO such thing as a perfect 10 game.. the several I have played that were rated at 10s were GTA4.. which was a solid 8 at best and that damn zelda game that was maybe a 7 to me.

Sorry, in the case of Far Cry 2, I guess I meant to say negative user reaction along with some of the complaints posited by "official" reviewers. There are a lot of gamers hating on Far Cry 2, and other hating on Fallout 3 based on speculation and initial impressions.

reviews are in the eye of the beholder.. why dont you give it a shot and see what you think?

+1. I plan on doing that later today . As far as paying too much for a game I might not like, I'm getting $50 for filling out a survey; there are worse things on which I could be blowing that money

I'll imagine Fallout 3 to Fallout 2 will be like Oblivion to Morrowind. People new to the series will find the game immensely enjoyable, however fans of the old games will be saddened to see everything they liked about the old games missing.

I was a big Morrowind fan, and I hated Oblivion to the core. There were so many things wrong with that game. However, I have never played a Fallout game, so the raping of the Fallout series won't really upset me. I still feel bad for you Fallout fans though

I am new to fallout, but I am curious. What will be missing from Fallout 3 that people loved in previous Fallout games?

Top-down view, turn based strategy battle. Skill based weapons aiming. Basically most of the elements that makes Fallout, Fallout. I hope that Fallout 3 turns out good, but honestly, my expectations aren't too high for it.

Doesn't VATS basically make your character do all the combat work instead of you?

I knew the game play would be more like Oblivion. V.A.T.S. is how I'll be playing most of the game, I think. Real time combat in Oblivion was pretty meh because it just had no 'weight' to it. The V.A.T.S. system is how Black Isle's Fallout 3/Van Bruen was going anyhow with movement being free which recharged you AP and then combat was turn based.

I'm just hoping that the storyline has real consequences besides the Megaton quest. I am kind of bummed that they compressed the game into such a small area but, at the same time I didn't really care for the endless forests in Oblivion either.

I'm still getting my lunch box on Tuesday though. I want to punch people's heads off with a power fist!

See me I ddint care for the turn based top down Fallouts.. out it in first person or 3rd person like they did here and you have my attention.

I think it will be great fun.
I have high hopes.
but no real expectations other than another Bethesda action RPG.

That's quite different indeed.

Well, I really enjoyed both Morrowind and Oblivion. That plus the idea of a post apocalyptic RPG is something I have been looking forward to for a while so hopefully I will enjoy it.

You'll probably have fun, then. I don't really consider myself a diehard FO fan even though I've played both of the first 2 games and loved them. The top-down perspective sort of annoyed me in a way; it had its merits, but first person has always really immersed me in a game.

I suppose I'm also one of the few Morrowind fans who also liked Oblivion, although for different reasons. IMO Morrowind had one of the worst combat systems ever, and Oblivion's was a major improvement. At times though, OB did feel a bit too simplistic. I just hope they haven't dumbed it down too much.

Is Fallout 3 really a console port? This is always my dilemna when trying to figuure out if I shuold buy a game for PC or console. How can you tell? With Bioshock, it played great on all systems. I *think* they developed them simultaneous yet independtly. For other games, it's very clear that one is a port of the other (ie Deus Ex 2). So what's the deal with Fallout 3? I'll buy it for whatever system it looks/acts best on.

Bethesda's Oblivion was developed together for PC and 360 so it wasn't a port, and neither is FO3.

People complained about the console co-development causing changes from Morrowind:
- simplified (or "dumbed-down") user interface
- hand-holding for quests (though this is as likely from a desire to appeal to less hardcore gamers)
- levelling of monsters ( " )

IMHO, only the UI change can reasonably be blamed on console co-development as opposed to wanting to make the game easier to appeal to more people.

For FO3, you should ignore anything No Mutants Allowed says since they are rabid purists who will hate anything other than a turn-based, top-down isometric game.

So Dave, it'll be just as good on the console as it will be on the PC? I used to be a staunch PC-only gamer but now it's just so much easier to play on the 360. No crashs, no hardware requirements, just play.

If it's as good as Bioshock I'll maybe buy it. Though after being a little disappointed with FC2, I'm a little worried that this will be dumbed down and over simplified.

If you're even remotely interested in or hopeful of Fallout 3, do yourself the biggest favor in the world and stay away from NMA. If you don't know who they are, keep it that way. If you do know who they are, my condolences for the loss of your sanity; we will continue burning the torch of happiness, love and fun to guide you back home.

Seriously. Stay away from NMA.

Oh, like Bioshock?

Or, more pertinently, Oblivion?

Now I havent played it yet but the BIGGEST thing missing from FO3 vs 1 and 2 would be the development team. FO2 was and still is tied with Baldur's Gate 2 as my fav rpg of all time. The reason why is that the game was fun, lots of fun. The devs for FO2 made that game just the most enjoyable experience. I remember the first time I came to the bridge random encounter and the game told me "now would be a good time to save" and I was like "stfu stupid game you are not the boss of me", or when I became a porn star in new reno, powerfisting ppl in the nuts, access to smart-ass remarks, or making a dumb character, it goes on and on.

I think if FO3 captures the spirit of the first two games then it will be a hit, regardless of gameplay (btw i like turn-based myself)

NMA are purists, and yes they are highly critical of the 1st person pov. Most people born after 1980 won't even care about isometric games but with the gaming community demanding gee-wiz graphics in major releases to substantiate their $2K "rigs" not enough resources are being invested in storyline and gameplay. I am personally afraid that this game might be heavy on graphics and lite on story or the intangibles that made Fallout 1&2 great (random encounters, pop-culture references, groin-shots), after all Fallout 2 was largly a dark comedy with lots of fun diversions.

Just checked NMA, and it's being developed simultaneously from the ground up for Xbox, PS3, and PC.

Agreed. You get banned if you have the testicular fortitude to:
a) Support Bethesda in any way.
b) Disagree with anyone else in any way.

NMA is basically a gigantic echo chamber of hatred.

edit: It's entirely no surprise they'd hate FO3 because it doesn't look EXACTLY like FO1 and 2.

Not visually. With the right hardware the PC version with run at higher than 720p and with much smoother framerates.

Load times will probably be OK on the 360 after the Fall update adds the run-from-the-HD option.

Core gameplay will be the same but eventually the PC version will be modded, with or without Bethesda's blessing. Look at the hundreds of Oblivion mods to get an idea of how much difference this will make.
