I liked Oblivion...I didn't play it too much but it was good (after playing it for like 6 hours straight in a day I decided I should quit before I got too addicted). Fallout 3 seems like it improved on the formula. I looked at the huge HD preview put out by GameTrailersTV and I was sold on it.

Disagree. The people at NMA just want it done right. They don't really quibble over minor details... they are upset because Bethesda is pissing on what was a fantastic IP in purely to generate revenue; not in order to make a great game.

Supermutants who are Incredible Hulk reskins instead of warped muscled freaks? Ghouls that are now raving zombies who want to eat your brains, instead of quirky old folks who survived the blast? Cars with nuclear reactors that haven't been salvaged after the apocalypse, and exist just because Bethesda thinks cars are supposed to blow up if you shoot them? That last one isn't a joke... That comes direct from an interview with a dev.

I agree with NMA; do FO3 right or don't do it at all. Bethesda paid 5+ million for the IP just to call it Fallout on the box. The game has almost nothing to do with Fallout.

It's the same thing Hollywood does with historical stories; they've been passed down from generation to generaiton because they're great stories, but Hollywood figures the story isn't good enough so changes the ending.

Its pointless to speculate from random websites and screenshots.

There will not be a demo.

I'll be waiting for the EuroGamer and 1up reviews, but my general impression was that yeah, Oblivion with different art assets. Bethesda only knows how to make one kind of game.

Oblivion was allright, oblivion with guns is what this apparently is, it sounds awesome. I will definately be picking this up when i get bored of GTA IV and condemned.

Yes, Oblivion was alright, but that's all it was - ok. It pales in comparison to top tier RPGs, i.e. pretty much anything BioWare puts out there.

Yep. The only thing that would please them would be a Fallout 3 made by Black Isle with an isometric perspective and turn-based combat. They would probably bitch if the graphics were improved too, since it would "take time away from the gameplay." In fact, they probably wouldn't even be happy if Black Isle made it because many interface features and game mechanics would probably be changed to appeal to the more current gaming crowd.

What people like those at NMA don't understand is that developers are in it to make money. They want to appeal to the largest player base possible, and Bethesda is very good at this. Oblivion was much more player-friendly than Morrowind and still had the epic stories and interaction if you knew where to look (dark brotherhood quests, Mages' Guild).

Never listen to a fanboy review. I always expected an Oblivion/Halflife mix it it sounds like that's what we'll get.

Were you guys seriously expecting anything more than Oblivion with guns?

Yet another "could have been great" PC game turned into a shitty console port.

This is starting to really piss me off. They just don't get it. They've got this whole piracy thing backwards and now everything is prioritized on console or with console in mind. And then it's like "oh yeah, we'd better see if we can get it out on PC too....." The controls are always wonky on these ports, the FOV is kinda screwed up, the in game cameras are screwed up, more and more stuff in 3rd person....... *sigh*

Yeah its a shitty console port :disgust:

LOL.

LOL @ the clueless posters in this thread.

1. It is not a "shitty console port"
2. NMA is rabidly old-school Fallout 1/2 and would therefore hate anything "new"
3. Last time I checked, Oblivion was well-reviewed and sold pretty well. If it's "Oblivion with guns" Bethesda has a winner on their hands.

Drooling gamers who run to Gamestop to buy shallow, soulless, unimaginative swill are the reason publishers keep releasing shallow, soulless, unimaginative swill.

You're entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrongheaded it is

I like deep, literate games like Planescape: Torment as much as the next guy, and have replayed FO 1-2 more than once, but I also thoroughly enjoyed Oblivion. Even if it isn't a "real" Fallout (just like the fun FO Tactics wasn't) I'm still willing to try enjoying FO3 on its own terms.

I liked Oblivion, it had its flaws, but a solid game, over all. I'm going to pick up Fallout 3, for sure.

Man, I really, really want to like this game. Sure, it's not fallout except in vague theme, but that's forgivable. It's not mechanically fallout, but I like FPSRPGs, probably more then anything else, so it should be right up my alley.

But Bethesda's stuff is always fundamentally broken in one way or another. Either overdone alchemy, or wiki-pedia coversations, or stupid level scaling, or spell crafting which just lets you create the exact same spell that does more or less damage and nothing interesting.

Can't trust any reviews, either. The media raved over Oblivion, and that was just flat out lies. And anyone who pans it is instantly suspect of fanboyism.

Yeah, who cares about NMA. They're just a bunch of cranky old gamers that can't handle change. I played both Fallout and Fallout2 the week they were released, and while they are awesome games....a top down fully turn based combat game wont sell these days. Back then we didn't have the technology to create realistic 3d environments which is why most games were top down view.

Not having the technology to create realistic 3d environments was balanced by having the technology to create decent story line, interesting NPCs, and challenging game play. It's a shame all of that had to get sacrificed to the 3d god.

NMA is a bunch of cranky dicks. However the point still stands, just because we have 3d tech doesn't mean every game has to use it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Bioware's new engine being used for Dragon's Age would have been the best compromise for Fallout 3. If not that, S2 would be next.

Top down gaming isn't dead, some people just have their blinders on.

Fallout 3 doesn't even look that great graphically, so I hope that's not where most of their budget went .

I never played the original Fallouts, I was just getting into PC gaming back then, but I have high hopes for this game whether it's "Oblivion with guns" or not.

Are we talking about the Madden series or Fallout 3?

Oh, like Bioshock?

Or, more pertinently, Oblivion?

Hah, good call out. Bioshocks saving grace was its immersive atmosphere . Oblivion was just crap as Zero Punctuation said.

Without mods Oblivion was really boring. That's my main concern with Fallout 3 since the story to Oblivion was so terrible I'm not sure if they can tell a good 'Fallout' story.

I know the Project Lead was the guy that did the Assassin's Guild quest line which was pretty awesome so there is hope there.
