Yeah, I'd agree. Maybe they just need a better director running the show to tie things together more and make sure the best ideas get to the top. Could be a case where the dev team isn't communicating enough internally, so it ends up being more like a bunch of different people doing their own thing before it gets combined. Would explain a lot of the incoherency and inconsistency.

That said, I'm really, really looking forward to what the mod community ends up doing with the game. I'd love to see a remake of the original games on the Fallout 3 engine; could be amazing and they've got all the dialogue from the first games to use for voiceovers. Now *that* would make me a happy camper.

I really am confused now. Just last night, I was watching my Tivoed "Sons of Anarchy", a Fallout 3 commercial came on. It is zoomed in on a Hula Dancer, pulls back, and you see a 1950 type push button radio, a bus circa 1950 and playing the World On fire (or something like that) a 1950 type song.

No, we are missing something.. We didnt go back to those push button radios, HELL I see the old vaccum type TV tubes on some screen shots. No, this is not some culture retro fad.
The world did stop in the 1950's, I am sure of it.

It's just an alternate timeline, that remained the prevailing style in the US from the 50s until the bombs dropped in 2077.

The setting is intended to be the world in 2077 as envisioned by people living in the 1950s.

I finished the game both as a good guy and bad guy. Enjoyed it a lot - actually enjoyed it more playing the evil dude to be honest. I must have put 100 hours into it, so that's it for me for a year and then I'll fire it up again and play some of the add-ons (as the evil guy). Any news of an expansion? I think the game sold well, so would make sense to do one? Perhaps New York? Or perhaps even a prequel leading up to the events of the Great War?

I really can't imagine a military simulation on the current engine. It'll probably be as action packed as the battle of Bruma in Oblivion with a staggering 16 soldiers. Personally I think the engine isn't well suited to an FPS. The AI intelligence seems like something from an ancient shooter.
