I've never been frustrated by the movement speed, I usually go slower than I could through unexplored areas, and you can insta-hop to explored areas. Perhaps you over overencumbered?

There's a mod out which increases movement speed by 10%, I've tried it and it feels much more natural now.

If you holster your weapon (hold down 'r') you move about 10% faster, I find that speed acceptable if not especially speedy.

There isn't much I dislike about the game, although I'm quite disappointed with the Centaurs and Super Mutants (by the way, this is my first Fallout game). Both of those creatures look fantastic but are complete pushovers. At least Super Mutant Brutes can soak up some serious damage, but the regular Super Mutants are weak sauce.

Now, if only the game didn't crash on my system every 30 minutes or so...

I enjoy the environments so much that the walking speed is no issue at all to me, but one time early in the game I got ridiculous. I was into hoarding all the loot I could, and got tired of dropping stuff that I thought was valuable, so one time when I was half way across the map from home I just kept everything anyway and moped through the wastelands at that ridiculous encumbered speed.

It obviously took forever, plus made for some really humorous combat on the way home too. I think I weighed like 600 at one point. I cracked up once when I came upon a shootout at night. Once I saw that there was a merchant nearby who'd shot a raider, I started after him but could never quite catch up to unload that loot.

I really, really like Fallout 3. The only thing I'm worried about is the fact that I haven't even explored west of Megaton and I'm already at level 18. I don't know why, but the level cap at 20 is really annoying.

Super Mutant Masters are tough customers at normal difficulty, or at least they were around level 9-12.

The only Super Mutants I'd fought before level 10-12 on my first game were in the Germantown Police HQ. Once I went into DC and was level 13-14 or so, it was mostly Brutes and Master, and THOSE GUYS are tough.

I encountered my first super mutants last night, at level 5. They were pretty easy. I usually kill one in 3-4 shots with a hunting rifle.

I've restarted my character twice now (so three different characters in total) so I've haven't gotten past level 8 yet with any of them. But at level 3-4, while high-tailing it to Rivet City to get the Intelligence Bobblehead, I naturally encountered a ton of Super Mutants and they all die in two shots to the head with the Combat Shotgun, which I'd luckily stumbled upon that early in the game (along with 50 rounds too!). They weren't too difficult with the Hunting Rifle either.

This is at Normal difficulty. Maybe they get harder to kill as I level up further, but I guess we'll see... Brutes can definitely take some punishment before they go down though.

Wait until you guys (those who haven't, of course) meet Deathclaws, they are, from my 60 hours current game observations and experiences, the very toughest of the enemies in the game, not even the Behemoths are as much of a threat (yes, the Behemoths are huge, but that's pretty much about it, they just need a lot of ammo to kill). And never take them for granted if they aren't close to you, they can leap. When I meet one I know I can kill it but I know my Stempacks will be needed a lot and I know I'll need to fix some body parts too, they are costly opponents.

Deathclaws just started spawning en masse for me. They aren't that tough on 'hard'. I'm level 16 and using a hunting rifle, combat shotgun and plasma rifle with 3 VAT enhancing perks. I can have the deathclaw down to a couple bars of health by the time it gets in range to melee me. Now if we want to talk about hard, let's talk about Mister Gutsy and Sentry Bots. The former consistently wastes me and requires a lot of ammo from me to take down.

Anybody know why I would suddenly start walking very slowly? If I hold down shift, I run, but my normal walking speed has turned into the "overencumbered" speed. I'm only holding 64 units of weight and I'm not crippled.

It sounds like you just need to go into settings and turn on "always run"

Agreed 100%. Fallout 3 is not just good. It's way too good. It's the best game I played in many, many years... TBH, I started losing interest in games, and was only playing games "occasionaly", once in a great while. Fallout 3, made me feel like I was in High School again, and I played, and played like a crazy psychopath. Nothing mattered again. The world did not exist, the job did not exist, the family was phased out of reality. There was only the Wasteland... I don't know if that's good or bad, (probably an equal share of both) but it takes a very special game to make me ever return to that "state" these days.

That did it. Weird that it's mapped to caps lock.

The bots are easy. You don't do "head shots" you do "sensor shots" like in previous fallouts. Using VATS to shoot the sensors makes them pushovers.

Fallout 3 is pretty different from 1 and 2. The first games might help you get used to the atmosphere of the wasteland, though.

They on their back or just hidden on their front? I almost always have a 0% or extremely low chance of hitting something between their head and torsi, which I assume is the elusive antenna. Oh well, I'll just keep blasting with my plasma rifle for now.

I'm poor right now from upgrading my system this week and buying L4D. Fallout 3 is coming next month for me.

Chrono Cross

God that was a shitty game, Chrono Trigger sure, but not Chrono Cross
