I dunno, some games you just become hooked on.
i was bored in the vault but this game just grabbed me and now it wont let go.
i hated oblivion, and most other rpgs. since ff10 with the exception of diablo, and the console champions/baldurs/fallout games.
to me, if it doesnt get GOATY ill be pissed.

Fallout 3 is good, and when modding tools are (hopefully) released it'll be even better, but there is no such thing as a perfect, 10/10 game.

Depends on what you count. Fallout 3 was very fun, it wasnt a direct sequel to Fallout 1 & 2 but more of a spiritual successor.
It would be GOTY for me if I hadn't played Mass Effect and Bioshock this year too. Fallout 3 is more like Top 3 GOTY.

Took you 50 hours to get to lvl 50 ? Meh, I want more perks, if it takes 50 hours to get 15 perks then I'm in for some allnighters

You get a perk every level in F3. Not every 3 levels like the old games

IT is damn good, but it just cant seem to keep me hooked for hours...maybe one or two, then it's off to Halo, or WoW...

I give it a 9.9/10 though ^_^

nothing will touch FF7, or Diablo 2 !!!

i dunno how they could not make it a better game with all flaws of oblivion still present

1. leveling - killed super mutant on level 3 with pistol, just duck and cover around obstacle...silly, not realistic and nowhere near original games....

this is just like being able to beat oblivion on level 3-4 if you follow main quest

2. combat - where do i start, VATS are awesome and fatalities are AMAZING...this is it pretty much, but real strategy is blast the head or if you have NPCs use nice combat knife or supersledge, since enemies will bypass you and try to kill your almost
superman of a friend while you freely run around and pick VATS body parts that already been damaged

same in oblivion was really tough on HARD until I was able to summon Stone Atronach, i kinda became unstoppable just going around and murdering everything in site, collecting trophies and loot

3. Story - weak weak and weak, not going to spoil anything but i think they just tossed original and tactics in a bag and moved story to east coast,

Oblivion felt like it was a better story

4. GFX and detail - this is where Bethesda stole my heart, waste land looks great with FP view and characters, guns etc everything is top notch

My conclusion 7/10 from true fallout fan

I really hope we will see Fallout 4 done in original style and in less than 10 years...

Yeah no way my GOATY.

I can't keep myself interested. Spending time running around looking for quests that have no real meaning feels so pointless. Some of them are fun, others are super boring and dull. And the combat frustrates/bores me to no end. I really don't like the dialog interaction, it just feels clumsy. Then again I just beat The Witcher so maybe I'm spoiled..

I'm afraid if I continue on the main quest the game will be over really fast, especially after hearing people saying they "accidentally beat it".... I guess that wouldn't really matter though if I'm not all that interested in it.

It's my Game of the Year, but I only buy a couple games each year so I obvoiusly don't get to play many GOTY contenders. The only other games I bought this year are Warhead (loved it) and Race Driver: GRID (phenomenal).

Fallout 3 just has so much content that I'm willing to give it the nod. Warhead had a ton action and improved on the original in so many ways that it's almost hard to believe they didn't charge full price for it. It's the best $29.99 I've ever spent on a brand new game. Period. Race Driver: GRID is awesome, but ultimately it's not really a GOTY contender despite being a great racing game in every way possible.

And for whatever it's worth, I absolutely loved Oblivion but eventually the game ran its course for me and I don't think I'll ever play it again. Fortunately, with Fallout 3 here I won't have to!

I like Fallout 3, I honestly do, despite the very annoying mishaps in it, but it's certainly not on my top 10 games of all time or anything along those lines. It's a good game, and the modding community will, just like Oblivion, add to it, tremendously. And Game of the Year... I don't know, I'm not sure, I really liked Clear Sky, also despite the very annoying bugs and whatnots. I also liked Red Alert 3 and FarCry 2.

In my book it'd be a tie between Clear Sky and Fallout 3, but Fallout 3 is more recent, and it needs mods, badly, while Clear Sky was alright without mods, it's just buggy, but if it was functional, if the Faction Wars would work as it should (and as it can, but modding will do it, not GSC) then I must admit that I'd be spending more time on Clear Sky at the moment. But in the end really, they're all nice games, I like them all, I don't plan on asking a refund for any of them, and I will keep playing them in the coming months, but... yeah, Fallout 3, GOTY or top 10 games of all time? Nah, not for me.

For me Fallout 3 is a great game. If miraculously the Van Buren Project could ever be completed that would be awesome, but I love this game for what it is.

Getting out the mod tools would be great of course. I acknowledge that they need to fix some things, but thankfully, on my system this thing runs great and looks great.

If people don't like the games I like, that's cool and I respect that, but I get a kick out of people saying "too short omg, finished it in 6 hours" or whatever. That's like saying sex is too short because it only took you two minutes. There's a lot to do and enjoy in this game for those who like it.

It's a good game. But between the simply stupid main plot, the various and sundry quirks and oddities of the game itself, and the generally shallow underlying game mechanics, it's simply not GOTY material by a long shot.
Which isn't to say it isn't fun. It is. But it's got a long, long way to go before it reaches GotY level quality. I'm not convinced the mod-tools will be enough to bring it up to that level either, if they ever materialize. Too many of the issues are fundamentals instead of details, and I'm not convinced the mod tools are going to allow you to fix things like that.

Are they ever releasing mod tools for this damn game? Screw you, Bethesda, if you don't.

I'm having a blast and can't wait for some 3rd party content. That's what made Oblivion awesome, and that will take Fallout 3 to a whole new level.

But even without those tools, I've had a blast so far. Sure, if you leave it on normal you can probably beat the game pretty easily. Have you tried setting it to hard? So far the main story has been so-so, but I've really enjoyed all of the side stories. I just reached the Brotherhood of Steel, and I've explored over 50% of the map. There is a TON of cool stuff to do, and this is where Fallout 3 really becomes better than Oblivion - Oblivion had countless dungeons that served no purpose at all. Thus far I've found maybe 10 dungeons that don't appear to serve a real purpose, and it's possible that I just never found the quests associated with them.

I'm not talking about simple quests like Oblivion had, either; it really feels like you're making a difference in the wasteland when you complete the side missions. Sure, there are pointless quests like "hey go get me 30 nuka-cola quantums nyuk nyuk" but for every one of those, there's another that has real depth.

In any case, Fallout 3 + mods will be awesome. I don't know if it's GOTY because I haven't played a lot of this year's games (Too Human, Clear Sky, Fable 2, Dead Space). If anything, I'm hoping Left 4 Dead will be so great that it's crowned best game of the decade

It's probably my GOTY. Let's be honest though, what else has come out on PC this year? We have Stalker: Clear Sky, which is amazing, but so fucked by bugs, it isn't funny. Crysis: Warhead that is good, except it's just more of the same of Crysis (exactly what it was marketed as and why I bought it). There's also been Spore, but I haven't touched it. I guess there's Left 4 Dead coming out soon for fun, Far Cry 2 which is being somewhat panned by players. More Call of Duty and Wow-crack...

Not to say that Fallout 3 isn't good though. I just restarted with a second character a week ago, put in over 50 hours and still haven't begun the main quest yet. By this time in Oblivion, I was probably bored out of my mind with the 50th cave/catacomb and forest. Despite some flaws such as stiff animations and not the best shooting, it is one of the most immersive games I've played in a while on PC.

The only genuinely frustrating thing about Fallout 3 is the abysmally slow movement speed. Outside from that it had a bit of a learning curve at first but once you started to realize how important stealth and ammo conservation (as well as a hefty amount of stopping and scavaging EVERYWHERE) the game starts to grow on you.
