Eh, what?

Fallout gets aliens now? I enjoyed the base Fallout 3, but haven't all the DLCs been released in horribly broken states?

Mothership Zeta's story was announced some time ago already, but anyway, the only real problematic DLC was The Pitt at release, which was corrupted enough to cause regular and mostly predictable crashes when players approached the slavers camp in the northern part of the Wasteland to start the The Pitt quest itself, and about a day later or two Bethesda released a fixed version and all was fine.

The bugs in Operation Anchorage were not as important, just the usual stuff from Bethesda games like floating trees in the distance or scripted events which had problems to start or finish properly and required a saved game reload to fix, or things that plague Bethesda games since Morrowind really, but other than that, and with no sarcasm, it was alright (you only need to think Bethesda Standards and you'll consider it the norm).

I would say that Point Lookout is definitely the best, less buggy and more polished of all the DLC's so far (but I actually liked The Pitt as well, Operation Anchorage was redundant, very short, and it gave absolutely no sense of accomplishment due to the very nature of it, being a virtual reality simulation, and once you're out of it you basically end up getting an army's worth of gear and make the rest of Fallout 3 even easier than it already was).

Yea I didn't know that Fallout 3 had aliens either. I guess I missed the crash site playing the game. I just learned there was a crash site a couple days ago. I think it's stupid to have this little alien thing anways. They should have kept the DLC more in line with the storyline.

Are Aliens more stupid than super mutants or Harold.
I guess the whole Mad Max thing can only be stretched so far. Should be interesting to see the entire Earth in the Fallout Universe. I never played the other games so maybe they explain it better, but IMO they never really made it clear the extent of the nuclear war. I wonder if the whole world was destroyed.

The aliens presence is part of the whole Fallout franchise since the first Fallout game, it wasn't "stupid" to have them in Fallout 3, it's just part of it, but it never played any major nor even minor roles in any quests until now with Mothership Zeta. And the actual back-story of Fallout mentions that the pre-War U.S.A government found a crashed alien ship and hid it in Area 51, and if my memory serves me well there's a crashed alien ship in Fallout, not in Fallout 2 however (I think, but there's still an alien blaster).

There was actually an alien pistol in Fallout 3. One of the most powerful weapons actually.

One of the Fallout (fallout 2 i think) had a random encounter with a downed shuttle from a star trek spaceship. Hehehe.

Aliens were in Fallout 1 and 2. 1 had the crashed spaceship with the alien blaster. 2 had the blaster you could by from a convoy, plus creatures name alien running around in certain parts of the world. Nothing out of place.

And as far as I remember some of the AIs in the Fallout universe were created with help of alien technology from the crashed ship the US found. I think it was that BoS AI in the San Francisco bunker in Fallout 2. Don't remember if the AI from Sierra Army Depot in Fallout 2 was one of them too. The ST shuttle in F2 was an easter egg

Personally, can't wait for this one. Point Lookout, even though was polished and had hardly any bugs, was "too primitive" for my taste. I mean... I'm in a Power Armor wielding either a Plasma Rifle or a Gauss Rifle and I am up against folks with shotguns, repeater rifles, shovels and axes... Microwave Emitter was such a let down for me (was so looking for it - I thought it would be like those "electric guns", Pulse Rifle/Pistol I think, at the end of Fallout 2).

Looking at the few screenshots for Mothership Zeta there will be so many new things in it, I can't wait!

The double-barreled shotgun is great though, and those rednecks pack one hell of a punch, technically Point Lookout is the toughest of all the DLCs, we'll see soon enough about Mothership Zeta, but I fear there will be too many tight corridors, I hope that mothership ends up being open-ended, I don't want to go through another Covenant-like ship again.

The reason PL is tough is that each of your enemies has a mod that causes them to do +35 dmg that's not mitigated by anything. That's why the Double Barrel Shoutgun and even Lever Action Rifle hurt so bad when those rednecks are using them. It's not so awesome when you're using them. A Gauss/Plasma Rifle is better still (at least in my eyes ). Hell, the Metal Blaster is the best close-range weapon, unmatched by anything

I went there at lvl16 with my other toon and it was pretty hard Almost done now and I'm almost lvl21.

The sci-fi part was always the thing I enjoyed the most in Fallout (power armors, energy weapons etc.).

Only the 1st two expansions were somewhat broken. That being said I never had any issues. The Pitt was somewhat short and not all that interesting story wise, but overall I enjoyed it. It added some very nice weapons and armor to the game. I had a blast with a melee character.

Haven't played Broken Steel yet, but Point Lookout is awesome. It got this "vibe" to it, you really get the feeling of the swamps and all that. The storyline is pretty cool as well.

I do agree about Mothership Zeta being somewhat of a weird idea, but I suppose they figured that since this is the last expansion they can get away with anything.

I like the part about:
?Ally yourself with an unexpected array of characters, both from the Capital Wasteland and from Earth ?s past.
So I'm thinking that's either gonna be Lincoln or Elvis or both.

Maybe like Amelia Earhart. I would think you would see well know personalities from the past that mysteriously disappeared.

That line does make me the most interested tho.

Mothership Zeta has been released today. So far, user reviews are stating it is comparable to OA (not a good thing): it's said to be linear, much of it inaccessible once the limited amount of quests are finished, and not much of a story. There are, of course, bugs, but it wouldn't be a Bethesda release without bugs.

I am saddened that Bethesda couldn't end their DLC with a bang. Something in the quality range of Point Lookout would have made many people happy. I think the biggest fault was the hype for Mothership Zeta, heightened by the awesome trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4enOSrf-MY8

Yeah, the trailer was cool, but after 4 other (IMO) lackluster DLC's I wasn't expecting much. This makes me a little sad.

At least Bethesda makes good expansion packs so hopefully you can enjoy that.

That would explain how they created advanced AI's without transistors, microchips, or anything more advanced than tape drives.
Though it doesn't explain the pipboy...

I'm about half way through. Not sure if I'll finish it, so here is my half-assed review:
Likes:
First part of the DLC is well done.
Voice recordings are somewhat interesting.
Aliens give a satisfying pus filled explosion when they die.
New loot.

Dislikes:
So far it is indeed a linear experience - corridor after corridor with the occasional medium sized room (basically follows a pattern).
DLC consists of shooting the same few aliens/robots again and again. Suppose this is to be expected.
Traversing the ship becomes boring quickly.

Worth $10? Not in my opinion. I suppose the console people would get more enjoyment out of it since they cannot partake in the blissful experience that is modded Fallout 3.

And here are some pictures for you all to enjoy (max settings, 2xAA, 16xAF):

I found this DLC to be one of my favorites - yeah - there's a lot of repetitive alien killing [as expected] - but it's pretty cool to see just what they've "collected" (alien abductions and recorded notes) the more you explore the ship. And you can release "friends" to help you battle the annoying little buggers.

Oh..and the double barrel shotgun to the head is a huge plus in close quarter combat

Suggestion for this DLC - quick save often as I encountered a few scripting issues with a certain helpful npc.

I am in the Observation deck and cannot progress further since my Cowboy is missing.
