i'm like, seriously?

game breaking bug in spoilers - you have been warned.

weapons do not need to reload.
fire weapon 1 (idk, shotgun) at the bad guy. empty the mag.
switch to weapon 2
fire weapon 2 at the bad guy, again emptying the mag. for example, a pistol.
switch back to weapon 1.
tadaaa! weapon 1 got fully reloaded by your reload-o-mat backpack and is now ready to be used again.

afaik works for all weapons in all slots.

really curious on who did the QA / functional testing on F4.

Pssh, that's weak. I just have my desktop connected to my TV in my room.

Mods will be on the Xbox One and PS4 versions anyway. Me, I just didn't want to drop $200+ on a new video card to play it, especially since I don't have a great setup, in terms of seating, for PC gaming.

The problem for me with mods on consoles is that most of the mods I downloaded for other Bethesda games were ones to make the graphics better. However, better graphics come with a performance drop and I doubt the consoles can handle them. I'm guessing you'll see more along the lines of Mach Man Dragon type mods than any that would improve graphics.

My brother-in-law wasn't complaining about the game quality while playing today (I let him borrow my copy), though I'm a bit tempted to just return it, wait the patches out. However, the only other game for me to play is Halo, and that's not enough on its own. I could get Battlefront, but that's rather redundant with Halo. I'd still have nothing to play solo.

I also wonder, does DF test these games before or after the launch patch is put out there?

It is never QA. It is never the developers. Blame it on the stakeholders.

Rest assured the guys in the trenches know full well about these bugs. Occasionally they might lie about them (there was a bit of that with AC unity), but they know about them. The managers who insist on hitting deadlines, however, push it out the door anyway knowing that as long as it is "mostly working", they can fix the rest post-launch. This is precisely why I am not playing this game right now and never, ever intended to play at launch. I knew the launch was a 'soft launch' because the real game wouldn't be ready for at least a month after.

It's not even the best gun in the game. I've seen some modified rifles from later on that shoot laser beams with night vision scopes and guns that shoot pure gamma radiation.

Why bother testing ahead of time? You bought it anyway and tested for them. I appreciate it too... lets me wait it out until all this crap is fixed

Forgot to include earlier that I got it on Ps4, primarily so gf and I can explore it together on the couch.

So far the performance has been fine. Yes, I've seen some framerate drops such as exiting cryo and also in some of the concord fights. Neither of us have really gotten much past this so it's not possible to say what it will be like later. Neither of these drops were game breaking though.

I'd say it looks 'ok', but some oddities throughout that make it kinda...meh. I think the lighting could use some significant improvements, and during the day I get this weird 'shimmer' from grass when in motion. Some of the blood/gut effects are kind of old feeling. I don't like how the pip-boy's flashlight just does this area of light around my person and yet oddly if you use the flashlight in the power armor it's more like you're holding a flashlight. I also don't like how the pip-boy isn't full screen as to me it is hard to read at times.

Gameplay feels fine though and the shooting is vastly improved, although the enemies can do some odd things so vats is still the most reliable way of hitting something. However, I really like the crafting system and being able to greatly modify these weapons!

Bug wise the biggest one I've run into is that if you start a new character (and my assumption is with other saves around), it is highly probable you'll get stuck coming out of cryo. I ultimately solved it by closing out of the game and restarting from a quicksave point right before that scene. Otherwise what I've noticed is that subtitles don't always sync up with dialogue and sometimes get stuck on the first thing they say. I also had one instance where a character dropped a word in what they were saying, kind of like the audio script stopped it too soon. The subtitles worked for that portion which is how I knew.

Overall though we've been having fun, but neither of us are much past the first part despite spending several hours each there. Excited to see how it pans out as we travel out a bit!

Edit: So I just learned that you can in fact enlarge the pip-boy interface by touching the trackpad...naturally nothing in the game states this: http://www.gfycat.com/GlitteringDistantIggypops

Really wish the controls were better noted somewhere as I had to google how to activate flashlight and holster a weapon.

I've just gotten out of the Vault. I had yesterday off, so I planned to play all day, once the thing arrived. UPS didn't deliver it until 5:30 PM. MY cousin picked me up at 4:45 PM and I had to babysit his computer re-build. That ended up keeping me away until 11 PM, so I didn't get a chance to play, which sucked.

I am about 12 hours in and it's not bad. Having fun but I wish they did more work on the dialog. Some of it sounds as cheesy as can be.

Got the FO4 bundle and played an hour and just got into the museum - started getting motion sickness nausea after a bit which is what I was afraid of. Just never got into these console shooters because of this and the slower aiming (PC for me). The gameplay isn't too enticing yet - a bit confusing interface. Also not quite sure how to build stuff just yet and I'm picking up almost everything I come across not knowing if it will help. I guess this is better than it being a linear game, but so far, I'm on the fence. Especially if I can't fix the nausea thing (FOV-related?), I won't be happy.

I've seen 2 options to help with this right now as FOV isn't currently adjustable on consoles.

a)Go into options and turn sensitivity to 0
b)Go into 3rd person and zoom out if necessary (on ps4 that would be holding the track pad and using R stick). Unfortunately I just can't use 3rd person inside a building, but it works well enough for roaming the wasteland.

I expected this game to be longer. Did you only do the main story?

The main quest line can end like skyrim did but after that there are a lot of side quests and factions to join as well. There is no game over when you finish the main story, you are free to continue exploring. I am 20 hours in and didn't even touch the main quest line yet. I'm doing faction stuff and following misc quests that pop up. I am also following all the radio distress calls I find and such.

no, i did quite a few fetch quests, and i carried the three main questlines as far as i could. i did not do any of the Railroad quests because i personally dislike them; did not like at all how the game tries to force you to join them.

still have quite a few places to visit in the wasteland, but with 38 power cores + model E power armor, 4k caps, and 600 rounds of 5.56 ammo + modded assault rifle (stats lie .. that think is OP) i doubt anything could stop me.

things:

1)no skills, so pumping INT is kinda useless. probably LCK and AGI should be maxed or nearly.

2) modding skills. armorer, gun nut (damn the level requirements are so steep), science, will do much more for your DPS than anything else.
2b) i found that Scrapper comes in too late, by the time you level it to rank 2, you find more stuff in stashes. I also did not need the "find +ammo" perk.

3) rail pistol / .38 to start with. combat shotgun and combat rifle for the next 90% of the game.

4) stealth really sucks in this game. mobs will spot you from another floor, yet you can kill their squadmates and then they just forget about you as soon as they lose visual.
also, kill someone with a single headshot from a mile away with silenced sniper, while crouching, hidden, in darkness: mobs instantly turn to face you and start shooting.

5) nade spam. some situations have way too much of it. nades in general (i'm looking at you, molotov) are too strong, so much so that many times i have been spotted by mobs 1 floor above me, who then proceeded to nade my position, only to kill themselves with their own nades.

i also have some reservations about the plot, but i will wait to discuss that for now.

I have a modded laser rifle that is more powerful than any variant of combat or assault rifle. I checked. However, some enemies are resistant to energy damage or ballistic damage so that should be taken into account too.

I do agree the AI is unrealistic and spots you from a distance or position they really should not, even with a stealth boy mod. I don't like power armor, I prefer going on foot. I have a X-01 modded set of power armor but I really dislike using it. Doesn't feel right.

I do like the faction quests so far. Haven't done railroad but will try it. What didn't you like about the railroad? Did you do the silver shroud quests? I really like the costume. Not for the stats but I like looking like a 1940s gangster with sunglasses on.

i think the railroad are crazy. like brotherhood crazy, but with an even sillier purpose.

i found the silver shroud radio, but every time i did, i was in the middle of some quest.

the thing is, fallout really ties everything together; you would have to avoid doing the main quest on purpose, to be able to do side quests. i think that given the story, i followed the quest the way i would have IRL. would not stop and run some random errand for some farmer while i'm in the middle of switching on a nuclear power plant, or something.

i really think this deserves its own thread.

oh and the laser rifle is cool, you can make it into a sniper, or a CQC rifle. but the AR is just better. mod it for armor piercing and it keeps putting bullet after bullet on target, the spread is non-existent, and the recoil is negligible.

One thing I really disliked in my early playing is the lack of settings. As you approach the museum, it's SUPER dark. I straight-up never even tried to get the laser rifle because it was so freaking dark on my TV.

The graphics on this game look to me poor. I am only going on screenshots and youtube. I am a huge fan of the Fallout series and am going to be on this like a cheap suit, I don't want to pretend I won't be (and I still think I'll love the game), but the graphics really do look just awful considering it doesn't have to cater to last gen consoles.
