On the topic of mods, they also announced that PC mods can be transferred to Xbox One and used there too. They also made sure to drop the words "for free" as well.
EXCELLENT!

I don't mind paying for good mods, but the last little experiment was, um, not a major success. (Except for Project Brazil, as modders actually dropped their Skyrim projects.)

Thanks for the link, and while yes, it doesn't matter how it gets done as long as it's done, F4 has an enormously higher graphical ceiling than W3 can ever hope to attain. Games are JUST NOW coming out that can match a modded Skyrim.
This is true. Bethesda's open system and GECK plus some very talented and dedicated non-game programmers is a nearly unbeatable combination. With the additional capability built in to take advantage of the current gen consoles and hopefully higher end PCs, in a couple years we should have some major mods that the commercial market, developing mostly for consoles, simply cannot match.

I've also noticed that they took note of the popularity of really vivid colors and lighting. Just look at the sky... F3 needed a mod for that it was so bleak and green. But now it's full of color.

FO3 was done that way to maintain an aesthetic reminiscent of the old games.

Fall Out is an old series for old timers. Crap, when Fall Out 3 first came out I was already well into my 20's. If you mean to tell me, 30 and 40 year old people are going to be walking around with pip boy smart watches , I went into the wrong business!

I'm in my late 30's (shudder at the sound of it) and would only wear it at home to play the game. Don't expect it to be something to wear out unless part of a costume.

It won't help the terrible animation though.

F' that. I'm wearing this biznitch to business meetings. Alpha males for the win.

lol!

I like the bleakness of FO3, and I think it is completely appropriate for the games...I'd rather not ultrasaturated colors for a Fallout game...but such can always be fixed.

That being said, the green hue was way too much. It's not even realistic. It's not like Chernobyl has ever been plagued by an ever-present green hue. You can't see radiation. Everything more or less looks normal....except that everything is dead, broken, and crumbling.

I'm glad. The green filter was abhorrable. The real world has COLOR, post-nuclear event or not.

Haven't play nor finish both Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and went back to check out some graphic mods...holy smoke! I think I'll be returning back to the Fallout universe again. This is why playing a game a year or two after the game come out is usually the best experience.

Yep - and no green tint! Somebody finally figured out that you can't see radiation.

Yeah, if you've got a great PC (graphics and SSD) Fallout 3 & New Vegas can be made to look as good as anything out there. Takes a LOT of mods though, gotta replace pretty much everything.

That's hyperbole.
I've played a fully modded NV, you can make it look ok, but gamebryo is still a very limited engine in the end. And you can't fix the crappy animations and the lobotomized stare NPC's give you in conversations.
Seems Fallout 4 improved somewhat on this, they're getting close to HL2 quality facial animations, a decade late.

So far the facial animations seem on par with other games to me. They lack the detail, but as far as the animations... same shit. Also I wish people would understand that the Gamebryo engine is dead. The creation engine was based on gamebyro but it is a new engine. This is the second rendition of that engine, so this would be like Unreal Engine 3/4. Same concept, more advanced. I think people will be pleasantly surprised with what they get come November 10th.

Animations and eyes are also replaceable.

Game looks so baller, I pre-ordered PC collector's at BB and Amazon yesterday (in case one order has problems). I got my friend's 20% discount at BB so hoping to keep that one.

Soooooo glad I tried FO3 a few years ago, was one of the best games I've played.

Couple questions. First, I'm assuming due to its development cycle that Fallout 4 will be DX11 max, not DX12 capable, correct?

Second, anyone know offhand the consoles' number of threads? I'm assuming that Fallout 4 will take advantage of at least 4GB VRAM since the consoles can do that, wich will be great for modded textures, but I'm wondering if an i7 will have any advantage over an i5 at 1080p. (Assuming all those scripts and physics actually need more three concurrent threads, which probably isn't the case.)

We *might* see a DirectX 12 patch. I mean Bethesda would have had access to DX 12 for their coding far before we as the consumer would get it. As for multi-threading... I would assume so. Modern games take advantage of multi-threading so why would FO4 be any different?

LOVE being wrong about it being a 2016--I hope they hit this 2015 release and it's not buggy crap. So looking forward to this game. I mean, they literally saved Christmas for us with this release date. People are going to go utterly fanatical murdering spree if they miss this date.

Here is my dream: Thanksgiving weekend, 2015. It's old outside, bleak. But there's turkey inside, and I have power, nobody in the household is in the hospital, and I'm playing Fallout 4.

Bethesda, let's make it happen.

Yes, but will it be sufficiently multithreaded as to make an i7 worth the premium? Most games are not, roughly half again as much cost for a meager handful of frames per second.

i7's are good for their single core performance too. Intel just makes a good processor top to bottom for any situation.

Agreed, but I already have a i5-2500K. I'm not planning on upgrading, but if I need to for the best Fallout 4 experience I might.

Well that's a tough one to speculate my friend. Bethesda games have always been CPU hungry... but your CPU is still high end. I think you'll be ok as long as you don't expect to game at 144hz. My guess is that you will be GPU dependent up to around 80 fps... after that, you're CPU dependent.

Nah, I've got a 27" 1080P 60Hz BenQ and I really don't see me going above that until the next gen gets down to the $250 range. I just can't afford to keep chasing bleeding edge performance and I'm pretty happy with the midrange.

I can also overclock the i5 if need be. My case is very well ventilated, and $50 for an aftermarket cooler goes down a lot more easily than $330 for a new processor.

GTA V already maxes out 4 cores and can easily scale to hexa, Witcher 3 also hammers quads in Novigrad. Skyrim on release also hammered CPUs. SNB is getting old. It might just do 60FPS minimum (barely) but if you want breathing room you want Haswell or Skylake.
