Interesting. Is Bethesda the developer or merely the publisher?

Seems like a new studio to me, so I'm guessing more Publisher than Developer. However, Prey's previous titles were IDTECH based, and that's something that Bethesda owns. They don't own CryEngine, so I'm assuming CryEngine was the studio's preferred platform before they ever got involved with Bethesda. Seems like they're simply using the PREY IP to launch a title that really doesn't have anything to do with the previous ones. Almost like how Far Cry 2 related to Far Cry.

That's a bit depressing. I was really hoping to see a sequel or remake. Prey (2006) was a really fun game.

I bought Prey like 8 years ago for $3 (from GoGamer I think (are they still around?)) and never even played it. I should get around to it sometime.

The in-game radio plays fine, all other apps work fine, but noises directly in front of me no longer compute.
If you've got a 5.1 setup, it's probably the center channel. I have these Logitech speakers that have a "matrix" button on them that's supposed to enhance stereo inputs to be kinda-sorta surround, but if it's pressed and the game has 5.1 sound, it kills the center speaker.

A hardware or driver failure is also a possibility. The obvious thing is to pull up the audio setup in Windows and have it run that test where it plays a distinct tone for each speaker.

The audio setup worked fine, as did all other applications. I did finally solve it though. Eventually I received a Windows error message that the advanced features of the Logitech driver were causing stability issues and had been deactivated. After a few thousand hours of trouble-free Windows 10 operation, including 1,100 in Fallout 4, a Microsoft Win10 stability update caused this incompatibility along with numerous system crashes and game crashes. The Logitech headset driver has no option for stereo operation, it's 7.1 only (and works pretty well), and manually setting it to stereo did nothing. However, when I uninstalled and reinstalled the software, Windows detected the "incompatibility" and disabled the offending function, setting the driver to stereo during setup, and it works, although I've lost the surround speaker function that honestly worked pretty well up until now.

Guess Logitech didn't keep its Windows protection payments up to date. lol Going to suck for CounterStrike GO though - that virtual 7.1 surround sound is the berries.

Starting playing with some mods. I loaded the Deadly Gunners and Deadly Raiders mods, the modern weapons mod, and the Subway Runner mod. Together, this has given me a lot of new content and it's really difficult - pretty much a whole new game. At one point while wearing a ballistic weave V courser uniform a supermutant I could barely even see gunned me down with the three consecutive, well-placed rounds from a .308 mini gun. No more standing in the middle of the street shooting things!

Well I finally started a new game on survival, after having looked up a few mods to make it better. Have to say I'm really liking it. Rather than just turning on fast travel I found a mod that enables it between settlements that are linked by supply lines. That's given me a gameplay reason to develop new settlements. I also use the campsite and backpack mods, so I basically carry around a bed to save, rather than having to spend large amounts of time replaying parts of the game after dying.

The best mod to save me time and make the game more enjoyable has to be the def_ui and item sorting combo ( I think this needs the armor and weapons keyword mod as well ). It's so much easier to sort and store loot with this. Before one of the first things I would do on a playthrough is build some sort of house in Sanctuary with multiple storage containers for various categories of loot - weapons, armor, food, etc. I just realized yesterday I'm level 15 and still using the one container I built next to the workshop in Sanctuary. It's easy enough to find what I'm looking for I don't feel the need to spread it out.

In general I'm finding that as long as I keep my damage up as much as possible, with mods and perks, there's no real bullet sponginess to any enemies, with the exception of legendary ones.

I played this weekend and noticed something amusing about myself. Sometimes I mean to point and activate something but accidentally shoot it instead. Scares the crap out of me, I leap up in my seat.

Let us all be grateful I'm not a cop or a soldier.

That happens to me a lot, except I normally end up shooting my companion...

Yeah, but they deserve it.
Lol

They only things I shoot regularly, that aren't enemies, are settlers that seem completely determined to run in front of me when I'm scoped in and about to shoot settlement raiders. Oh and Marcy Long.

Marcy Long decided that she should sleep in the bed I built for myself, so I assigned her a bed as far away as possible. What I really want is to assign her a bed in a small hut far away, then replace the wall with a door with a solid wall.

lol No, I dislike the concept of a weapon which makes ordinary bullets explode. I really don't understand why Bethesda cannot implement different bullet types for the same weapon. Modders can, and the first two Fallouts did as well.

For that matter, I also don't understand why Bethesda believes that a weapon built out of pipe should be a third the weight of one purpose-built that does the same damage. I'll give them a pass on the idea that an assault weapon should weight 25+ pounds, since periodically American armament corporations suffer the same delusion.

Bethesda announced that a new High Resolution texture pack is coming to the pc, as well as PS4 Pro support

https://bethesda.net/en/article/52I...h-resolution-texture-pack-and-ps4-pro-support

But it seems that maybe this is better than the texture pack that was release with Skyrim initially came out as below are the specs

Note: To utilize the High-Resolution Texture Pack, make sure you have an additional 58 GB of available and that your system meets/exceeds the recommended specs below.

Recommended PC Specs
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i7-5820K or better
GTX 1080 8GB
8GB+ Ram

On my fifth play thru.

Only now just discovered the costume store next to Vault 81. I feel so stupid and lost.

It also called for a GTX1080 or an RX 490 - does that even exist?
Either way, I don't have n i7 so I shan't be loading any time soon.

Dang, I thought that was added by one of my mods.

Fallout 4 Hi Rez comparison
Everything set to max

Normal Textures 1080p

Hi Rez Textures 1080p

Hi Rez 4k

Noticeable improvement but not worth 57 gigs IMO

How's the performance hit? I played at 1440 with very little issues staying at a constant 60FPS with everything maxed, but I assume this would obliterate my frames.

About a 25% hit @4K in my hillbilly benchmarking tests.

the last update included some general performance fixes, so those of us who were slogging along at 25 fps are now closer to 45.
The folks at a consistent 60 can now probably add texture or lighting mods without much of a hit.

When was the last update? I just uninstalled the game recently, but I was able to maintain a solid 60 almost everywhere and the dips I did experience weren't that severe.
