I mean, you do realize that's every sandbox RPG ever, right? Oblivion, Skyrim, Morrowind, both 1st person Fallouts... it's not lazy writing at all. It's something far harder to correct, which is that quest scripting still can only be so complex before you've used up too much of the 12ms per frame that you have available for doing shit.

Since no other rpg with dialog options ever did that that i can remember i do not give them a free pass because Bethesda does it and apparently has been doing it for a long time. Sorry

When a character tells you why you are asked to do something, then you are in the process of doing that quest and they go out of their way to repeat the stuff you already heard that is supposed to convince you to help it begins to hurt the story of that character for me. I already agreed to help or whatever, I don't need the explanation repeated. Other things could have been written in to that option or just leave it out entirely and it would have been better for me.

Probably been discussed already, but has anyone gotten stuck to where you can't move in the game? Early on, I answered the front door, set up my stats, said my good byes, and then couldn't move. I restarted the game and it worked fine, but wonder if this is a recurring bug?

I have gotten stuck in the environment when I was trying to duck and move under objects and the game apparently has an invisible wall there and I went too far. Beyond that no, but I have had the pip boy disappear which I believe someone else mentioned before.

I spent about 6 hours in the game, maybe a bit more, before I found someone to barter with (traveling caravan guy I found by that Hilltop place, who deals in armor). And I couldn't unload much crap cause he only had 231 credits. Maybe I just missed another barter person but I'm really hoping I find another person soon.

It's not just Bethesda. There aren't many games of this type to compare to but I have experienced repeated dialog in most of them. Most recently in Deus Ex Human Revolution (which isn't an open world game in the same sense). All the GTA games, etc.

More and more I think this just isn't your cup of tea. Have fun in the thread, though.

I haven't found any vendors yet, but I have only done some short foraging trips out of Sanctuary.

You can build a store in the settlement, but I don't know what you can sell or buy there, or how much capital it has.

I had a strange bug where I attempted to usea computer console my character got stuck half way through the animation of sitting down and zooming in on the screen.

I couldnt do anything other than reload

The major towns have them so far but they aren't numerous. I have had to discard some things because everyone who could trade didn't have enough caps.

You really don't find any venders who you can reliably sell things to until you get to diamond city or goodneighbor.

Has anyone had a problem with sending companions back to Sanctuary Hills and not being able to find them after that?

I had sent three companions back there and now I can't seem to locate them anywhere in the area.

They take a while to return. I guess they walk. One time I told the minuteman guy (forget his name) to go back to town and then completed a quest that required me to go back to him and it told me he was miles away from the town, out in the middle of nowhere. He was walking out in the wilderness. Maybe you need to wait enough time or something for them to return.

Pretty much what I was figuring, thanks. I'm using up almost everything I find at this point, anyway, so I am not running into a lot of need for caps yet.

One thing I'm discovering is that, like FO3 and NV, Pre-war money is a great source of caps. However, it's listed as "junk", ends up in the workbench, and it's never filed under MISC in your category.

I made a ton of caps just selling that stuff as I needed.

I think pre-war money is a source of copper.

FYI you can also set up vendor stalls in your settlements, but IIRC you need about 4-5 points in CHA and it takes about 300 caps to build them.

I picked it up off of GMG with 20% off code: SAVE20-NOVEMB-GAMING, on release night.

Steam required.

That is good through next week, I think.

damnit, last night it was 20% and today it's 15%....the 20% code doesn't work any more.

I get the feeling my first playthrough is going to be with the "lone wanderer" perk direction. I'll build an empire NEXT time....

You know, that s a really good idea. I forgot about replay value. Too used to one and done games.

Also if you find the brotherhood of steel quest line you get a laser rifle with double damage on critical hits and I believe 15% faster critical charge in VATS when you complete the first quest. It can be found less than 10 hours into the game. You find a radio signal and a distress call. Investigate and your there.

Use spoiler tags please.

All the trade routes are in the game guide.

Yeah, there's already a massive list of buildings or areas that I want to explore more, but pass by because I'm trying to get somewhere else. I'm guessing that there are a few different ways to go through the main quest line in the endgame just based on the factions that I've come across so far, so there are probably other reasons to replay as well.

Hopefully by then they've patched some of the issues and improved the performance a bit.

For lots of people, this is the first fallout game. I beat New Vegas a long time ago and played some Fallout 3, but had completely forgotten about the brotherhood until it was brought up as well.
