You can get 5 adhesive from breaking down vegetable starch. That takes corn, tato, mutfruit and fresh water. My problem at low level is finding adhesive.

Dear god, 8 hours gone and all I've done is built a settlement...
They don't look 200 years old; they look like they were cobbled together out of random scrap lumber by someone with no carpentry skills. Someone particularly lazy who didn't feel like fixing the hole in the roof that they made by not lining everything up properly.I still wish I could make my newly-constructed buildings not look like they've survived a nuclear war 200 years ago! Sheesh.

So far, I haven't seen anything that improves on the look of walls and roofs. There's one that adds a bunch of furniture, but no new walls.

I'm not sure how it can possibly "take away" from anything since you can completely ignore it. As for what the "core" of the Fallout series is about, arguably rebuilding civilization has always been a big part of it. Now you get to do so more definitely.Still not doing the building settlement thing. If I wanted to play WoW or Sim whatever, I would. This adds nothing to the game and really takes away from the core of what the fallout series is imho.
Yes all my (spoiler free) reading was Adhesive, but I never had a issue with that, and you do know you can cook it, one you get a few settlements going, corn, tatos and fruit I think one of each makes vegetable starch.. but as stated, I never needed to cook it, i run out of steel all the time, mostly as I make huge settlements and have 15+ going. I must admit I quit picking up Armour unless I needed it or a the AI could use it.. guns also. I am looking for hotplates, crystal decanters, phones and fans.. early game Crystal was a pain for me. I will start grabbing raider pieces..
How LEAN do you guys run? I have carry issues. I have 3-4 guns almost all the time, full set of Armour (never carry more unless its for scrap) and my aid.. still seems im in the 240 area all the time and have a 360.. amazing how fast 100 pounds adds up
I guess i should carry less guns.. have a rocket launcher with me that i use almost never.. maybe need to dump it and a couple other and stick with maybe 2 guns I just worry about that legendary mutating Murlock Queen, rocket launcher is a great friend.

My main problem with the settlements is that they're a little undercooked. Mainly they give you a steady supply of purified water and adhesives. Now and then you can build up a wall of defenses and then lead a nearby hostile group into them. When you're level 15-ish that can be a big help with the larger Supermutant groups.
I guess they're also collecting junk, which you can then use for weapon mods, but that happens so quietly it's hard to tell how much they're adding. At least, once you've got supply routes up and are sharing inventory. Doubtless it's more visible in individual settlements before then.
That's me. I'm not very interested in the main quest. Exploring random buildings and interfering with spontaneous firefights in the streets is more my thing. And, it seems, building up my own little kingdom of semi-independent settlements.Wait, what was i doing originally? Wait what!? I have son!? When did this happen?

Meh, I always hate the micromanagement carry weight issues in every game. It's just not an aspect of the game I find fun at all. I just use the following console command to resolve that
player.modav carryweight 3000
I can run around for a few hours picking up everything before I have to dump the junk back at the sanctuary workshop. Then I scrap all uneeded weapons and armor I've picked up after that there at sanctuary. Then spend some time building. Once I'm done with all that then I head back out to explore/quest/collect more junk. I can do the later part for far longer with out having to head back to a workshop constantly.
Yah, I wonder where all the weight goes. I think they have armor and weapons weigh WAY WAY more than they should. I carry 3-4 weapons that use different ammo supplies at all times, try to weed out my aid stock, and remember to drop junk and mods and I'm still running 260-270. At least now that I have power armor legs upgraded I can carry 400+ pounds, but it was a huge issue before I got science high enough to do that.

In the "odd physics" department, mostly I've noticed dead bodies thrashing about in the water. They can make quite the racket.
I don't know if I would call the weight limit fun. I don't think it's supposed to be. But limitations and constraints make the game a challenge and the challenge is fun. It's a careful balance, and some designers do a better job of it than others. So it's nice that in the PC version you can adjust those aspects if they don't do a good job. But I don't think I would find an artificially high limit to be much fun either.

Yeah back in FO3 I just learned what things not to pick up. Problem is that with FO4, almost everything is useful with the new crafting system. I leave NOTHING behind. I've gotten up to over 700 weight before leaving a building before. I has problems.
