Actually, this is for the last gen versions. Current-gen and PC are a brand new engine.

This sounds like typical marketing to me. The Skyrim "Creation" engine was nothing more than Gamebryo with a few lighting/shadow tweaks and bug fixes. I can tell looking at gameplay of Fallout 4 it is using the same engine.

I'm quite happy for it to use the Skyrim engine. Skyrim was no classical beauty, but it was far from hideous and ran well. It also modded well, and with some decent textures the game should look reasonably good.

I'm something of a graphics whore, but given the choice between a cutting edge engine or the engine Bethesda displayed with the extra time spent on content, I am solidly in Bethesda's camp here. We aren't talking about a cutting edge engine or Skyrim-level graphics engine on a typical ten hour game, we are talking a good 'nough updated Skyrim engine and hundreds of hours of content, even before DLC and mods. And given their unique support for modders, I'll have the opportunity to replay it later looking even better - with additional free content and geared even more toward my own individual preference. Win/win/win in my book.

*snorts*. Generic RPG fetch quest #4789 sure. Problem with Bethesda has always been rubbish cliched plots. You have the world (that is hilariously glitchy) but the plot and the one dimensional characters meh. Gamebryo is a rubbish engine to boot, everything from the models up is just old. It ain't 2006 no more.

Could be both, enemies scaling with you as well as zones of relative tougher enemies. Kind of immersion breaking either way. What, were all those mole rats keeping out the death claws?

If they do have zones of tougher monsters, there should be some at least superficially logical reason for this.

How about they don't like the taste of mole rats but the food they like is primarily found abundantly in and around their zone.

So we'll put you down as a "maybe" on Fallout 4?

Works for me, although if they are going to put a hundred half-ton predators every hectare and nice plump people (hard crunchy shell, sweet meaty interior) are within sight and a twenty second run that's going to stretch suspension of disbelief. But then, a brand new half-ton predator in less than two centuries has pretty much torn that sucker anyway, so . . .

Here's some good news - Bethesda had the Doom & Rage development team (id Software) help out on the shooter mechanics from the start. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/fallout-4-gun-gameplay-built-with-doom-devs-help/1100-6430602/
Doom and Rage developer Id Software is said to have helped Bethesda to improve gunplay for its upcoming open-world RPG Fallout 4.

In a video recorded at E3 2015, but only recently published, game director Todd Howard discussed the evolution of the game's shooting.

"If you were to pick it up and play [Fallout 4], it does feel like a modern shooter," he said. "I won't say anything bad about Fallout 3, but we wanted to not make any excuses for how the action felt in a role-playing game. We feel we can layer all of the role-playing and stat systems on top of that.

"So the guns feel great. We have aim down sights, you can play in first and third-person, and then we have the V.A.T.S system."

Continuing, Howard said Id Software were called in from an early stage to help build the shooting.

"Since id Software is part of our company, the first thing we did was call them. [We said] 'alright, we're going to do this from scratch, give us some tips.'"
As someone who plays Fallout like a shooter, I am very, very glad to hear that the shooting mechanics (hopefully) won't be borked from the start as with Fallout 3. And as someone who appreciates flexibility in games even when I don't use certain features, I also appreciate Bethesda including an updated VATS for those who can't handle shooters or who simply like the more strategic combat. The more play styles that are well-accommodated, the more people can enjoy the game, the more money it will earn, and the more content can be generated for my playing pleasure.

Full interview with Todd Howard is at the link.

Man, I just cannot wait for the game.
Worst thing is that some many good games will be released by the end of this year. :/

Wait a year before you buy it. I can't remember a Bethesda game that worked well when it was released. It usually takes a year for them (and I mean the modders) to fix most of it.

I completly agree. While FO4 is on my must play list, I won't touch it until at least next October, and by then I'll probably get it for $10.00 on a steam sale.

Overall I've found that I enjoy most games more if I wait 6 months to a year before I play them. Often by then the GOTY edition is out and I get all the DLC and bugfixes for less than the price of the game new.

It's going to take more than a year for FO4 to hit $10. Base game will be faster than the collected version, but it will take a while.

I doubt it, probably by the Fall Steam sale I'll pick up the base game for $10.00. If they release any decent DLC there will be a GOTY edition that will still be $30, but on the PC I have to seriously question the value of DLC when there will be a ton of amazing community created mods out there.

Will not play until there is a complete texture and model overhaul, and all the game-breaking bugs are fixed. I'm sure weather, lighting, and LOD will be improved from almost day 1, but I refuse to play the game until all of it looks like it should in 2016, not 2010, and won't make me throw controllers through monitors because the game refuses to load at some random point, or an essential character is missing or other normal Bethesda nonsense. Aside from that, can't fucking wait! Thank you early adopters for beta testing the steaming pile that will be released.

While I will have the Pip Boy Edition on launch It is going to the back of my "still to play" pile so I'll probably play it around H2 2017 or so... plenty of time for Mods/DLC/Moar Modz!

It's always been about game-play and storyline for me, that's why I ordered the PipBoy version immediately when it was announced. I know that Bethesda will most likely come through with that after you battle the initial bugs. It might be hard not to sell the PipBoy version for $300+ on Ebay though.

Plus, how could you not love the cheesy S.P.E.C.I.A.L. videos.

anyone have an idea about sys reqs?
were 4 weeks out and ....?

Like their previous games it will probably be playable on a low-end system if you use minimal settings.

As for max settings: Dont EVER buy hardware before a game comes out. Wait until afterwards. People always find issues with at least one configuration.

Having said that, is there something in your system you are particularly worried about?
