Argh. I'm close to level 50 with VERY LITTLE progress made in the main storylines. Anybody else in this trap?

Almost 37. Have made almost no progress on the main story. I did just recently get to Diamond City and Goodneighbor for the first time... but while I was doing it some raiders attacked Ten Pines and I failed to help . So I went back there and repaired the generators and turrets, and now they need more water, and I guess the beds aren't soft enough, and wow is the food getting monotonous. Then there's that pesky Raider camp at the Olivia sat station. I've cleared those assholes out three times. I'd like to find Shaun. I think he was my son or something. It's getting hard to remember. Anyway, I need to get back to Sanctuary and clear some shit with Preston and pay the Vault Tec guy a visit. He gets depressed if I don't stop by regularly.

I was given a "clear the raiders" quest in the excavation thicket (How far down do you think it goes?) and cleared everything, but the quest isn't completing. I think I killed one of the mirelurks while it was in the in the pen and still green. (murderer!) That's the only "odd" thing that's happened. Otherwise, I've combed every bit of it and the surrounding area. Anyone else that have this problem?

I think I've passed three game days... Is this going to clear itself? Or do I need to do a little console digging?

That's weird. Did you check all the little huts and trailers above ground? Anything show up on your compass?

The one time I had that quest everything I had to kill was on the surface or pit/entrance of a cave. IIRC I sniped everything from the top of the pit or half way into it.

It will fail after a period of time.

I would say that if he jumps right to FO4, then there's no reason to go back to the other games. While good games, the experience is so similar that I don't see him getting much out of them. Plus they haven't aged the best visually, and while mods can help it I just don't see why you'd go back.

So I think he could jump into FO4 right now no problem, I wouldn't bother with the older ones after that. That's just me though... I'm sure others are bigger fans than I was.
I'm a pretty big fan of Fallout 3 and New Vegas; when heavily modded, they can be prettier than 4, although no mods I've played can compete with 4 in open vistas. Also tons of free content, much of it pretty darned good, and an incredible amount of flexibility to tailor them to each player's exact preferences.

You know who does that?

A synth!

I've got a nice money making machine made in sanctuary and have the investor perk. So, I start the day by selling product and getting about 10,000 caps. Preston will usually cross my path and send me on a mission. I run out, finish the mission, come back, drop off my junk, and it's evening, so I sleep, and repeat!

Or I finally scramble out to try to make some progress, but I'll come by a firefight, grab the spoils, and have to go back to drop off. And it's evening...

Or I find a new settlement. Then I'll have to establish with vendors, blow my cap stash and crafting materials... So I head back to Sanctuary.

It's my OCD. I can't NOT do this stuff! I'm not complaining. I'm having fun. This game will last me ages. Come to think of it. I spent 75% of my time in WoW in the auction house making money.
I think I'm around 70 without much progress on the main plot line. Too many interesting places to see and characters to experience. (Well, and also too many repetitive kidnap/exterminate quests.)

Nothing on the compass, and I accidentally activated that worthless (so far) VANS perk, which also doesn't tell me anything.

I'll let it fail.

"Sorry settler, I only killed 99% of the them. The raider hide-n-seek champ lives on. Not happy? You have now been assigned to the road, deep in the southeast"

Sounds the same as my experience with the raider mission at Corvega described above. Also let it fail.

I'm at 76 but keep gonig back to my camps and changing or improving things lol, will get to the end eventually.

I hated when the settlers say "not enough beds and have to sleep in shifts" especially when there is more then enough beds, bug maybe?

Same thing happened to me defending the castle which was being attacked by a doz synths. They were pinned down in the entranceway by my turrets and the settlers, which is of course right where I warped in. They cut me to pieces so I reloaded and went in with PA on, quick fight after that. (I moved the fast travel placement to inside the armory after that).

Well I never got the quest complete notification nor was there anyone to talk to. Every time I left it would fail. I even spent 24 hours there, hanging out, sleeping with Piper, adding a laser turret to sweep the entranceway from the inside (there multiple guarding the outside so they must have spawned inside that little alcove), etc. Finally gave up, let it fail, and went back to repair everything.

Got this game mid October and am just loving it. Spent much of my time doing side quests and faction quests plus liberating and building new settlements. I just recently started in with the mod stuff. I am hooked. have about 5 mods running now. Mainly for settlement clean up. Lets me remove all the old junk piles and wrecked dilapidated shacks and buildings. One i just started on last night lets me build brand new looking homes and buildings. I can see me spending weeks now just going around to all my settlements tidying up and building new homes.

Did progress on the main quest and tho not sure how far into it i am (as i do not know the end point and do not want to know) I can hazard a guess that i must be 50-75% of the way in. So taking a break for now as i have a blast playing SIMS - with guns -

Yep - that is what I think many of us are doing. Playing "Sims with guns".

Finished most quest lines ,now at level 78, other than BOS ( toured the big ship, got accepted and my own PA) and yet to really start The Silver Shard. I also have yet to go into the Glowing Sea area. So far have not had a single attack on the Castle. I avoid it after I sent about 10 settlers all with heavy armor and high level guns there with about 175 defense via missile turrets, and heavy machine gun turrets for fear of getting more quests. Hopefully, it will be a quick fight if it is attacked and I can get out of there without getting a new "help this settlement" quest.

Do the silver shroud quests, so worth it. Use the gear, say things has him. Good stuff.
The first Silver Shroud mission I used "the gear" and died in about 0.5 seconds flat. Several times. After that I went back to "not the gear" and lived happily ever after.

Did up have Kent upgrade it? It's not bad at lvl 45+, 87 damage/energy resist +1 agi/perception and 15% less damage from humans. Not great but certainly not paper.

Gun is just a standard moddable sub machine gun.

I wonder if someone got wounded and ran off. They sometimes do that, I only know because I tagged them. It's probably a bug though.

If you get a synth cow invasion you'll fail even after killing the gun-toting cow

I got that defense mission at Sunshine Tidings. The cow attacked by itself. Sadly for it, you can't pull the trigger on an Institute pistol with a hoof.

Hah! In Fallout 1 and 2, you could stealthily assassinate people by injecting them with a bunch of super stimpacks. They heal more, faster, but had a small hitpoint debuff when they wore off. So, it was a "friendly" act, but ultimately killed them in the end.

I don't think there's a similar way to do this in F4...

Finished the game weeks ago and have somehow kept playing it to just build settlements and dress my settlers... Unfortunately, I am running out of things to kill. Can't believe I'm saying this, but they're not respawning quickly enough. Some quest locations don't respawn at all. The original corpses are still lying around.

And I just found out that Quincy supposedly doesn't respawn with Gunners if you kill everyone. I must have missed one my first time around because they respawned at least once.

Quincy certainly respawns with Gunners for me. Miserable place to even go near, I can't seem to get past without either detouring way far west or getting into a major firefight every time.

EDIT: Shades of John Yossarian. I can't help thinking I should add "I yearn for you tragically."

lol I got knocked off a roof top in Quincy during a furious fire fight by a pack Brahman. Now it all makes sense - it must have been a synth Brahman.

I worry because...

A Brotherhood of Steel checkpoint moved in just outside of town. Don't think that was there before. Ever since they've been there, no Gunners have spawned. Big shame because they were pretty high leveled and had good equipment drops.

Should I start this game on PS4 or will it take over my life? I wanted it on PC because of a 21:9 monitor, but my friend got it for me for Christmas.

I have it both on PC and PS4. My rather outdated PC plays the game better with better visuals, so I'd suggest you go with PC if you have have something equal or faster. Loading times are vastly improved on the PC too.

Will do. So, to the other point, if I start this game, will you see the likes of me posting on here again, or will it take over my life? xD
