So dumb question...
If I went with the BoS and blew up the Institute, is that effectively the end of the main story? Is it worth it to play back through and choose another side? I realize now I should have created a main save point so I could go back and re-choose if I wanted.
Yes, and yes. I went way back, about to the beginning, to get the "best" ending where all three other factions are at peace. It's been a very satisfying experience, and I've encountered things that I missed first time around. Med-Tek, for instance, is quite different if experienced with McCreedy than if simply happened upon. And I love the Atom Cats, which I completely missed first time around.

I was reading the Nuka-World description on Steam:
Take a trip to Nuka-World, a vast amusement park now a lawless city of Raiders. Explore an all-new region with an open wasteland and park zones like Safari Adventure, Dry Rock Gulch, Kiddie Kingdom, and the Galactic Zone. Lead lethal gangs of Raiders and use them to conquer settlements, bending the Commonwealth to your will.
I hope I am wrong, but that really sounds like Nuka-World will be rather meh unless you're playing an evil character.

Also, I keep seeing people refer to this as the last DLC of THIS season. Is that correct? I thought it was the last DLC period, that Bethesda has already moved on to another game.

I really wish Bethesda would either contract a follow-up with Obsidian, or figure out a way to have worthwhile additional paid mod expansion pack content. Has to be something worth their time between nothing and "we do nothing and collect big bucks." I think the way they went about it last time would destroy the modding community and probably ruin the franchise. Yet there are so many ambitious modding projects started by talented people who simply run short of energy and free labor that I can't help but believe that some method of allowing them (and Bethesda) to cash in would help bring some of these to fruition.

While not really an ending, its more a state of limbo, as I do not believe you get an ending slide for that.

Think it was E3 or just post of E3 Bethesda did say that this is the last of the dlc, and the official site says that "While Nuka-World will be the final add-on for Fallout 4..."

Definitely. I am in the beginning of my sixth play through. I wanted to see all possible outcomes and now doing the latest game with all the DLC and addons. It's been a blast.

TIP: Institute's last mission is rather hard, especially if you're in Power Armor (since it gets destroyed eventually, infinitely spawning Brotherhood soldiers). There's an easier way:
Follow Railroad's path until it tells you to continue working with the institute. When Father asks you to kill Desdemona & Co, just follow Railroad's quest instead (talk to Z-something, warn Desdemona of Brotherhood's upcoming attack) and it will eventually lead you to destroying the Prydwen using Railroad's branch (a lot easier). Then just kill Desdemona after you meet her back at HQ and that's it! :awe:

Wait, wouldn't that last bit make the Railroad hostile? I'm assuming you suggest doing it because she gives you a quest hostile to the Brotherhood.

Yes, it does. But you can play on several fronts almost until the very end and use an easier path to satisfy requests from other factions.

Here's a summary of each faction from my gameplays:

Brotherhood - you can do their questline almost until the end and and be neutral with both Institute and Railroad. All except the last three quests - Tactical Thinking [kill Railroad], Spoils of War [become hostile with Institute] and Nuclear Option [kill Institute].

Railroad - requires that you follow Institute's path almost until the end, meaning you have to become hostile with Brotherhood (through Institute's path - Mass Fusion). So Railroad is not forcing you to become hostile with BOS (at least I haven't noticed)

Institute - their last quest is to kill Railroad and Brotherhood. Their branch forces you to become hostile with BOS already during Mass Fusion. You decide about Railroad at the very end.

Minutemen - they are neutral. They will help you destroy the Institute if you get banished from the Institute. Unless you get kicked out, you can't use this path (at least it never triggered for me otherwise).

Since the goal is to have 3 factions friendly at the end, you're not really achieving the goal with this path. You've only got 2 of the 4, which is the normal result.

I think you misread something. My tip was for ending as Institute and using Railroad's attack on BOS to make it easier (instead of Institute attacking BOS - harder). Even if you attack BOS as Railroad, it still counts towards Institute's win.

You can finish with 3 out of 4 alive if you use the Minutemen
The other 3 factions mean 2 out of 4 will survive.

Has anybody ever just gone through and like, murdered EVERYTHING?

Is that even possible? I kinda wanna try. Not really. But maybe.

I certainly wanted to this weekend. Playing through the BoS missions and drew an escort mission to the Gunners Plaza. Never has any lemming been so enthusiastically suicidal. Or so fragile. "Hangnail! Glory . . ."

OK for some reason things arent working for me.

How do I use the Contraptions? They arent coming up in my build menu.
And how and where do I build robots from Automatron?

For the Automatron, you have to do part of the Quest that starts at level 15
Then you would build a robot workbench from the special menu.
The options are limited till you complete the quest.
for example you cannot build something with a sentry arm until you find one an a robot that you killed.
At the end of the Quest you get access to all of them

For the Contraptions, do you have any mods installed that mess with the settlement menu?
they should just show up, for example there should be a warehouse section, and under power there would be manufacturing (off the top of my head not at the computer)

Hm, second thoughts about having got this for $20 in the recent Newegg sale.

It's a DVD - that means no steam and no steam sales on DLC?

Pretty sure you can 'link' the CD version you got to Steam itself and then Steam will recognize that you own it...

FTFY You can use the DVD to install the game (and Steam will then download the latest patch) or just add the CD-key to Steam and download the latest game already.

You don't need the DVDs once you add the game to Steam.

Huh? Currently updating with a 1 GB download. New DLC doesn't come out until later this month.

Alright then:

I hit level 15 and got the automatron quest. Did it.

I got a patch for Homemaker that correctly displays all the Contraption stuff.

But I'm still not seeing the conveyor belts or the machines or logic gates. I do see the elevators, the switches, the mortars, and also the new decorations and conduits, as well as the scaffolding stuff.

Do I need to be a higher level to see the processing machines?

^I think you need certain perks to build the conveyor belts, but you should be able to see them.

I finally tried out the stuff from the new DLC. The factory buildings look very similar to the barn stuff. Don't really see the point of the scaffolding except maybe for some very flimsy -- indestructible in this game -- towers.

The conveyor belts make the least sense for anything other than to see crap being moved around. Building parts is good but getting all those materials and putting them into the machines looks like a pain.

Then there's the ball chute thing... Fun if you want to see balls fly around your settlement or create a German engineering contraption with the traps/power switches.
