Bethesda announced the minimum requirements for Fallout 4.

Minimum
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz/AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz or equivalent
8 GB RAM
30 GB free HDD space
NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent

Recommended
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i7 4790 3.6 GHz/AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz or equivalent
8 GB RAM
30 GB free HDD space
NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB or equivalent

Pretty steep specs - may have to upgrade a couple of components.

For an open world only a 30Gb install is worrying when it comes to texture quality and size, I don't think it's going to look very good compared to modern games like GTAV if they're using only 1/2 the amount of texture data.

Must have heavy multi-threading support if they're recommending an i7. I don't think I've been CPU limited in anything ever with a 3570k.

I haven't been keeping up with pc for a couple years and want to play this game. Is my rig
fx6300 stock clocked, 16gb ddr3 ram 1333, 7850 2gb stock speed even making minimum specs?

Skyrim required 6GB.

Sure it's a step up from Skyrim, which is actually more with the HD texture pack from what I remember. But that's a far cry from the 60Gb that is GTAV which has pretty decent textures for such an expansive and unique world. Even games as old as Max Payne 3 were 30Gb+ for a relatively linear and closed world single player.

Some of the screens I've seen of FO4 have the same old basic models and low texture decals like filing cabinets and boarded over windows and things like that.

I'm sure the game will be pretty epic in a lot of ways but the lack of really next gen graphics is a bit of a shame, especially for such an expensive title.

I take it you don't remember what fallout 3 was like as it was 99% gray / brown.

Probably true.... But I say leave this to the modding community.

I recently replayed Skyrim with a frequently updated ENB and was blown away. I'm looking forward to what FO4's gonna lol like one year from now.

The video card requirement was no big deal or surprise, but the processor... holy smokes! That's some heavy CPU demands and now I'm worried my i5-2400 will be a big bottleneck...

Actually... anyone notice the minimum video card recommends 2GB? Boy I'm glad the 960 I snagged on the cheap was a 4GB model!

I would wait for the game before panicking about system requirements. Sometimes they are really overstated by the devs for some reason.

I bet a Haswell or Skylake i3 will run it, but those minimum video card requirements are pretty steep---HD 7870??? Looks like my HD7770 is going to be a bottleneck, and even the GTX960M in my grandson's gaming laptop is below specs. I am sure we can both play at lower res/settings. He is really looking forward to the game.

Typical heavy handed announced specs that in reality won't be the real requirement. The game might truthfully need 2 GB of VRAM, but I don't see Fallout 4 requiring a 7870. A Geforce 550Ti makes some kind of sense and it's weaker than a GTX 460, so expect the true AMD requirements for playable framerates at 720p to be closer to a Radeon 7750 or 7770.

As for the CPU, it obviously just needs 4 processing threads. That means i3's and dual module AMD APUs will likely have no problem. The gap between an i5-2300 and a Phenom II x4 is dumb sounding as the GTX 550Ti and Radeon 7870 requirement to be honest. Do devs think we're honestly that stupid?

May just be clockspeed. Highest Intel, highest AMD.

I wouldn't be surprised if it ran relative fine on a dualcore+8GB+random 2GB card.

It just occurred to me... very few 2gb 550TI cards were ever made. Odd requirement... I wonder if the memory amount or video speed is going to be the driving factor/bottleneck - and how 1GB cards will fare?

[shrug] Guess we'll see in a few weeks.

The minimum requirements seem uneven. The Geforce 550 Ti was more on the level of a Radeon HD 5770. A Radeon 7770 should be easily able to match that, a 7870 seems like overkill for minimum. Also, a 7870 was the recommended requirement for Dragon Age Inquisition and the minimum requirement for The Witcher 3, I seriously doubt that Fallout 4's minimum settings will measure up like that.

The Geforce 780 and Radeon 290X being the recommended requirement makes more sense, though. Those are both far beyond the level of consoles -- hopefully that means Fallout 4 will have much higher quality settings for PC than consoles (and not just have AA and draw distance sliders, which is pretty much what happened with Skyrim).

CPU requirements are not surprising, look at Skyrim on launch, it swallowed cores and clock-speed. 8GB of RAM is interesting, I have seen GTA V take 4-5GB for itself so I can easily that. I wonder if the 780 Ti will be gimped.

Wow I'm actually under the minimum spec with my Radeon 7790! Those are quite high minimum specs then.

I'll upgrade sometime next year when the next batch of graphics cards come out.

Since it will also run on Xbox One and PS4, at least the CPU requirements seems exaggerated.
