Well, I guess my dual HD 6850s aren't going to cut the mustard anymore. Though in fairness they've had a longer run that most of my other GPUs.

PC minimum specs have really spiked in the last year. Hopefully those are overstated, because it's getting hard to put together medium budget builds.

I really hope those specs are someone being lazy, I can't remember the last time I looked at a game and had to ask myself if it would run ok on my system. I wonder if this is going to be the Crysis of 2015, maybe 8 years from now the hardware will catch up to the crappy code.

Haha, looks like my Core i5-750 and Radeon 7870 are minimum. I can play a lot of games, including GTA V, with quite high settings and get good framerates. If those specs are actually truthful, this game better be lifelike in its quality.

"Intel Core i7 4790 3.6 GHz/AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz or equivalent"

Its been proven time and again with recent games that there is almost no difference between an i5-4690 and i7-4790 in FPS with a single GPU. As far as the FX-9590 vs an i5... lol. You know what they did - a few months back the developers said "Well, and i7-4790 and FX-9590 are the top processors for each company so we'll go with those. We've used a GTX 780 on it so we know it works. The R9 290x must be better so we're safe there."

I have never seen a 2GB 550 Ti, also a 550 Ti is like half the performance of the 7870, how can both be min?

and the i5 2300 is much faster than the PII 945

but you can never take those requirements seriously anyway.

I think the spec spike is just an adjustment.

Min used to mean the game would boot up and then slideshow no matter what you did at 640x480.

Recommended played the game on low/Medium at your resolution.

I think the new Min. getting published is playing at low/medium at your resolution (likely 1080p), while Recommended will ensure no issues at Ultra everything.

I mean, let's not forget that is also launching on consoles. With what I've seen , I just don't think it's going to be the PC slayer these specs indicate.

I fully expect I'll be able to run this on High settings at or near 60 fps with my Haswell i5, 8 GB RAM, and GTX 760 at 1440p.

I still have an i5 750 but with only a Radeon 6850.

Not in the mood to upgrade so I'll just kick the settings to low. Gasp, might have to play at a non-native resolution.

I remember seeing this with Witcher 3 and thought my brand new build was already gimped. It ran just fine without Hairworks on near Ultra at 1920x1200. But based on the specs they showed I expected a stuttering mess.

Seems like one thing missing is resolution for reference. Maybe those specs above are referring to some super high resolution requirements?

It looks like I need a new PC. I have been putting it off until Asus has a decent G-Sync monitor out. Hopefully, their 27" IPS model is actually available in November.

I'm betting an I5 2500k @ 4.2ghz + an R9 390 will be able to max the game out at 1080p no problem and be within 60fps range.

Don't think I'll be replacing my i5-2500K until I actually see problems. Might kick up from stock speeds though. Looking at benchmarks, I am not seeing more than a handful of frames' difference in anything between the fastest i7 and my 2500K.

Skyrim required 6GB.

And it looked like crap out of the box.

But no matter, its a Bethesda title. All of their games look pretty bad until the modders get a hold of them.

FWIW - I like skyrim and most other Bethesda games. Just giving an honest (and realistic) opinion. They are far better gameplay/story designers than they are graphic artists. I keep hoping that one day Bethesda and Crytek will get married and have a baby in the form of a game that combines the massive scale and fun gameplay of a Bethesda title with the gorgeous graphics Crytek is known to produce.

There hasn't been a game yet that has brought my i7 860 (3.5 ghz) to its knees. Minimum specs for awhile have been saying I need sandy bridge or even ivy bridge or higher, but it hasn't mattered.

If they can get this to run in the crap hardware on consoles then surely it will be fine on even a first generation i7 and possibly even quad core 2 s.

How do you expect Bethesda to be up to date on PC GPUs when they haven't made anything that remotely resembles a PC game since 2006.

After the fiasco that was Skyrim's PC launch, there's little reason to believe that their PC QA team consists of anything more than one chimpanzee on a 32bit PC from the Oblivion days.

Well Skyrim had problems on each platform, really (such as horrible performance on the PS3), so I think it's more like Bethesda QA just kind of sucks in general than specific neglect of PC.

Bethesda did improve Skyrim through patches after launch, with things like CPU optimizations, making it large address aware, and a high resolution texture pack.

lol

And now, we go live to the team setting PC hardware requirements:

Maybe the devs are trying to drive more console sales by confusing any potential PC gamer that doesn't know anything. Another tangible reason for the lopsided GPU requirements might come down to tessellation capabilities, but even that is kind of stupid when the addition of a Tessellation On/Off button isn't a difficult thing to add.

Nope, the 7870 tessellates as good as 580.

I imagine a 550 Ti would be far below half of that.

I see no reason to doubt the theory that they are either monkeys or use chickens with their heads cut off to make decisions. Or perhaps monkeys who use chickens to make decisions.

I don't expect any issues, I can play Witcher 3 on ultra settings so can't see this game demanding more.

I'll probably wait a few weeks for a patch or two before buying F4, it'll give me something to play over Christmas.
