So I love fallout 3. Love it. I would love just fallout 3 to be online. Just toss in some online components. Make a gang/clan, add some really tough boss like creatures. Is there any info on how the MMO will be? first person? fps/rpg hyprid? Are there any mods in the making to make fallout 3 online? What would you like the fallout MMO to be like?

It would be Tabula Rasa. ROFL.

But seriously, I don't think it's possible anytime soon. I've never seen any good FPS MMO's survive very long.

It would probably just turn into Auto Assault meets Tabula Rasa and then Epic Fail.

I have not played Fallout 3 yet but love the series.

I believe that Interplay still owns the rights to an MMO, correct me if I am wrong.

I think that after the success of Fallout 3, chances are good that it will eventually be made into an MMO. If done, I think that there will be very little resemblance of Fallout series. I think that it would not play well at all if it used similiar mechanics to Fallout 3. It would need to use similiar formulas to other current MMO's especially for combat.

Nice thing about the Fallout series is that melee combat is still a very viable option so that mixed with some awesome ranged elements would make for interesting class builds.

I think a better option for Fallout to shoot for would be a similiar formula to the Diablo series which has not been an MMO but heavily multiplayer oriented. Maybe they could even copy-cat a bit and go with the isometric view that Diablo III is still sticking too. That might bring a lot of Fallout fans into a similiar experience from Fallout 1 and 2.

I did a profile page for Fallout 3 a couple of years ago, and included a brief history of the franchise. Here's a short quote, can't say if it's still valid.

"An SEC report dated April 12, 2007 indicates that the Fallout franchise was purchased outright from Interplay for $5.75 million. A Fallout MMO is said to remain in the works at Interplay, who will act as a licensee of Bethesda."

I expect to see a Fallout MMO eventually, but it will likely be a dismal failure as the very nature of an MMO runs contrary to what a great RPG is supposed to be.

I'd have to agree with this.

Why is it that every time a new game comes out the first thing some fool asks is "Is it an MMO? Will it be an MMO?"
I dont know if you guys have grasped the concept or not but MMO's suck. If we were really that sociable we'd be out socializing with people in the real world. All they're good for is grinding away at repetative tasks so you can unlock new crap and more repetative tasks.

All other people do is ruin your immersive gaming experience. Its fine in RTS's where they are limited to building up a base and sending units against you. And it works fine for hack'n'slash games with stats that ignorant people like to call Role-Playing-Games.
But its totally uneeded in an epic single-player experience like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Deus Ex.

Those games and their engine were setup to make an awesome experience for one person, without lag and grinding.

WTF people?

Well.. I believe that a Fallout MMO is possible as much as it is impossible. First, I bet it would be difficult to implement the vats mode+all those cool effects online because it would cause plenty of lag. On the other hand, as seen in other MMOs it would be very possible to create a huge open world and populate it with hundreds of quests, enemies and monsters. But then you'd have to give people something to do... and what would they do aside from killing npc monsters? Suppose you give players the ability to join rival factions.. someone could be BoS, others would be raiders or enclave... But wouldn't that be kinda silly without a clever story that would make such things make sense? I think it would be, because there is not much of a story behind the enigmatic enclave, the honorable BoS and the chaotic raiders.... And I cant see why there should be. They are fine the way they are.

A Fallout MMO sounds good in "theory" but probably not such a good idea overall. I'll tell you this much. I'd rather Fallout stay the way it is, then to have it butchered by someone who will make an MMO that will suck. I'd rather Bethesda make the next Fallout, and make that one more like Fallout Tactics with an ability to ride around in vehicles like buggies, tanks, etc. Maybe even one or two helicopters? To spice things up a bit, how about a coop mode where two or maybe even up to three people can go through the campaign together? This time however, I'd love some hostile cyborgs, and more diversity in enemies overall. I'd say it's good single player games we are lacking in lately. There's plenty of MMO's as is.

Why an MMO, why not something more like a BF2 with more than just 2 sides? and a point capture system of some type? that'd be fun, no?

I've played most of the attempts at a FPS MMO (my dream genre) but they all suffer the same fatal flaw - latency. It's ok when you average 150-200 ping on your WoW server, but when that's your ping in a FPS match the entire thing becomes significantly less fun. For all the potential of PlanetSide it felt like playing back in the dialup era and it didn't take long to realize I'd rather just play with a 50ms ping in a real FPS game.

Fallout 3 multiplayer using some type of team based objective gameplay would be a lot of fun but I don't think it needs to be MMO.

The game deserves to be an MMO.

It would be REALLY cool if they did do this though.

I think if Bethesda did something like that (allowing built-up character from the single player campaign) these type of games would find even more players.

Planetside had its moments though. When you got involved in a clan (or whatever they were called) that was really organized it was a lot of fun to go around mopping up. Plus, I thought that the battles actually got pretty strategic when well-organized forces squared off. Overall I agree though, the FPS genre will probably never make a great MMO.

Fallout wouldn't necessarily have to be a traditional MMO, though. They could make most of the combat turn-based revolving around the VATS system. I think they could have a really lively world with the Enclave, BoS, Outkasts, Raiders, Slavers, etc. People could establish new settlements or run trade caravans. If they try it, I'd love to see it feature a 'real' economy like Eve Online.

IMO they could make it a fantastic game, but it also couldn't be identical to Fallout 3.

This. Unfortunatelty the greatest casualty of this is going to be the new Kotor MMO...which will never be as good as a full fledged Kotor 3 RPG.
