I have SR80s. Anyone who's listened to both models have comments on if this Koss model is worthwhile?
I have the Grado SR60's because I preferred them with portables (no amp). I have heard the 80's and they sound very similar to the 60's as you probably know. These KSC35's are not crap like I had thought that they might be. Koss is usually associated with crap, but these things are great. I was amazed at the Sportapro's and these things are even better. Tighter bass and definitely more open sounding. The ear clips are surprisingly comfortable too. Much more comfortable than ear buds. I can never seem to get those to fit right.
I wouldn't recommend the Senn 580's or 600's to anyone that isn't using an amp. They just don't get enough juice to power them properly when you plug them directly into an output. I agree that the Senn's are very nice though. I have the 600's and love them. They are much different than these Koss or the Grado's. Much more laid back and natural sounding.. Once again, I would not recommend these cans (Sennheiser 580 or 600) without an amp though.
Back to the Koss. Just get them. You'll be very pleasantly surprised at the sound quality for so little money.
What are the best headphones over $80 but under $150?
Definitely look at the Grado SR60 or SR80 in this price range. Others really like the Sony MDRV6 (not the 600) in this price range. I think these are the model names.. Like I said, I'd steer clear of the Sennheiser 580 or 600 unless you plan to use an amp behind them. I don't think they sound very good off of a cd players output.
I'd recommend visiting headwize.com. There are a ton of people nuts about audio, particularly headphones and anything associated with them, over on that forum.
