I've always wanted to remove the side panels of a case and replace them with boxfans (you know, the 24-30" ones that people put in thier windows). My only worry is that the CPU might be in an eddy and not getting any airflow whatsoever.
I have a question.. I just got some new fans for the system I am slowly building. I found that more older system (P3 500) has one spot on the back for a fan. There is not much for intake (or a place for a fan there too) but I am not stressing it too hard. Should I have the fan I put on the back be intake or exhaust? Thanks

Exhaust, removing the hot air from the case is better than adding cold air (which then gets hot). The best thing is both intake and exhaust though, but if only one of 'em then exhaust.
An explanation... the computer is mine. It is a P4 1.6A overclocked to whatever (sometimes). All the fans on the side came out of a rackmount chassis, a USR Total Control box (for RAS, etc.). The fan tray unbolts from the bottom of the box. I saw that it was the same size as the side panel of my case, so I just propped it there for the picture. I thought it would be amusing.
it *was* amusing. what would be even more amusing is to see somebody actually seriously put this to use on the side of their case like that, along with and another one on the other side of their case for exhaust! Now THAT would be some serious air-cooling!
