Im definately getting an OC rig setup here soon since my present specs are not up to par.

Athlon 1.33 ghz TBird ( Cooler master heatsink / fan )
ECS K7S5A
256 PC 2100

I am planning on getting this by selling all but the ram for 93$

AthlonXP 2100+ ( obviousily TBred B )
Thermalright SLK 900 ( the new one that can sue 92 mm fans )
Epox 8RDA
Cosair XMS DDR400 or DDR433

IM really looking forward to my next rig. I just dont know what fan or fans to run in my new rig. 1 st of all I want to OC to at least 2 ghz probaly 2.25 if 2.3. I know this can be done quite easily on air and I believe that the SLK 900 can get me there. However I dont know what fan to buy. Obviousily a delta super noisy fan could do it but its over 40dba's loud! Not exactly quiet. So I am wonder what fan has the power to get me all the way up to 2.3 ghz and not be super loud. I know 92mm helps out a lot. Should I get a loud fan and then control it? I guess I want a fan that is both quiet enough for me to stand but powerful enough to get me the 2.3ghz OC! Any suggestion and expierence would be helpful. Thank you!

if it is a heatsink and fan your looking for.........then thats simple.
do you have the four holes in your mobo around the socket?
if so an alpha pal 8045 or swiftech mcx 462+ (bitch is heavy but man does it do a good job)

if you dont got the holes.
a thermalright slk-800 should do you well.
the slk-900 uses the mobo holes if i am not mistaken

Well that wasnt my question but yeah I know about the holes. Not only does my current mother board the ECS K7S5A ahve the holes but my future Epox 8RDA support fans with holes. The Epox supports my future heatsink the SLK 900. The SLK 900 can be configured a number of ways but it comes with a clip. I know the heat sink I want. Its the fan I need!

fan = ys tech variable or the TT smart fan 2 : these by far are the two most popular fans used by people in the forums

may i make a suggestions?

instead of spending bundles of money on that corsair xms pc3200 or 3500...

try twinmos/winbond or twinmos/twinmos which is MUCH MUCH cheaper and runs at the same specs as the corsair xms series (corsair also uses winbond memory bh-5)... it does 200 mhz @ 2-2-2-6 or even 2-2-2-5...

if you do decide to go with the 3500 though, that means you'll want to run the FSB at like... 217ish? ... the 8rda+ has a problem with it's vdd voltage being unable to handle a fsb past 200 mhz w/o doing a mod to the physical board. i hear that the new revision board may come with an option to adjust the vdd in the bios but this has not been confirmed yet... if you want to learn how to mod the board, go check out my post in the motherboard forum under the sticky post for the Epox 8rda+... there is a link there that shows how to do the mod (pretty simple and painless)...

Shimmishim you are seriously my new favorite person around the AT forums!

I knew about the Vmod just waiting for this guy to buy my TBird then ill order my 8RDA. hmm so Twinmos memory is just as good? I figured this much! I just got caught up in the XMS hype. Im not looking to run much past 166 on the ram but just getting DDR 400 for future upgrade. Me and my friend will have fun volt modding my mobo. If i do run a higher fsb ill probaly only go to 200 if that. I just want 2800+ performance for now!

Thank you!

oh and what voltage do you think I can hit 2.3 ghz at? I know it kinda depends on the chip but approximately the voltage?

you can get the twinmos from here for a good price

it's hard to find for some reason so in the search box, just type "twinmos" and it'll pop up...

enjoy!

and yes, if you are interested in doing the mod, let me know cuz i can order the smd grabbers that will be necessary to do the mod and split the cost with you, me, and your friend (1 set of black and red grabbers cost about 4 bucks.... minimum order from the place is 20 bucks)

Where is a good place to get some fans? There is a panaflo fan that offers quiet operation and 42.7 cfm. I preferably never want my fan to never go above 40 db if possible. I cant seem to find and variable speed 92mm fans. I guess what I am asking is how many RPMS and CFM should I need to get the Tbred B 2100+ to 2.3 ghz reliably?

Twinmos sounds great and all but I can find windbond memory for much less $$$! So should I just go and get that instead of the Twinmos? I know I am sounding like a newbie but I get really ancy when I go through comp upgrades.

Winbond is just as good
Corsair's XMS3200 uses Winbond BH-5 chips
try looking for memory with BH-5, BH-6 or even the new CH-5 chips(i have the CH-6, but i still can't oc it yet)

as long as it's winbond bh-5 it should be fine...

there was a thread in hot deals forum about the twinmos/winbond...

someone mentioned something about winbond memory being on ebay as well... this company is selling winbond bh-5 memory with an unknown pcb (they actually put it together themselves)...

i ordered a stick of 512megs from them and hoping to have it by the end of this coming week to test it out... if this thing can do the same speed and timing as the corsair, this is gonna be one hot deal for 512 megs of ram for under 100 bucks that can do 200 mhz and 2-2-2-6

thanks for the link! Seems pretty goo but I think the panaflo should provide enough cooling hopefully!

I am still trying to figure out whether everyone besides me got a bad board or what because everyone says you cant get past 200 with this board, I myself just purchased the 8rda+ and am running my 2100+ at 210fsb with no mods and no problems whatsoever. Also i am running pc2700 XMS

Cooler guys has a LOT of fans to choose from and also many more things. Also, they have buy two fans get one free. I myself have the Sunon 50cfm fan on my T-bred and it's giving me temps of 38C idle and around 43C-45C on load. All of this is while running at 210fsb at 2.31GHz

i think where you are sitting is fine. 210 is about around the limit for the 8rda+. Have you tried 220 yet? It is because the board only allows for 1.5 v on the vdd. After the mod, the vdd goes up to around 1.8V. this is enough for you to hit over the 220 mark. you can also do other mods to get into the 230 range.

yes i have tried 220, and no i didnt get in....the highest i could get in was 217 (unstable)....

I am thinking about doing the vdd mod but there are two things from keeping me back. the main reason is that i do not have money floating around in case the project goes bad, also....2.3GHz with this chip is right around where everyone has been getting anyways, unless they're using hydro.

i am also very surprised that my 2700 memory has let me go as far as i have already, the pc2700 XMS is from my last rig and i havent gotten enought money to buy 3200 or 3500 yet.

Also maybe someone could answer me this, is the dual channel on this board really worth getting another stick of memory over?

no, it's not worth it unless you are using the integrated graphics (8RGA+)

the performance difference w/o the IG is only 3-5%

overclocking is easier with one stick of ram as well
