Hi. This is my second pc build, first was a thunderbird 1.2ghz and I used the stock heatsink/fan that came with the cpu. Now Im about to buy the Athlon XP 2600+ with 333mhz fsb from TigerDirect. Was wondering if anyone could take a look at the socket A fans that TigerDirect has available and suggest one for me. I wont be overclocking and just need a reliable and quiet (if possible) fan that I can purchase from Tiger along with the CPU. Thanks everyone.

Just FYI, TigerDirect has a dismal reputation. Sure you wouldn't rather buy from someone else, maybe Newegg? If you go with Newegg, I think the Taisol CKG760172 and some Arctic Silver 3 would be a good sub-$30 setup that won't run any noisier than a stock AMD unit. In fact, I think this IS the stock AMD unit for the retail-boxed 2600+. If you wanted to go a notch beyond that, a Thermalright SK-7 and a YS Tech adjustable-RPM 80mm fan would be around $40.

I always cringe when I see a TigerDirect add on TV trying to sell a 'Loaded" computer for $ 1,200 - " AND THAT'S NOT ALL !".
I could have built the same thing myself with parts from NewEgg for about $ 850. - 'BUT WAIT !"
I wouldn't have to pay the intrest for financing the $ 1,200 computer which is now going to cost $ 1,600 or more with charges.

If you do it yourself - you can get it for about 1/2 the cost of TigerDirect.
Enough said.

I know TigerDirect isnt always the best price, not always the best products either. However I have ordered things from them 4 times in the past and have been very happy. Problem is, I cant find the 2600+ 333fsb processor anywhere else except for PCProgress.com. I ordered it from them with a Volcano7 cooler 2 weeks ago, but they have been unable to ship it to me because they dont have any. Any suggestions on where else to find it? I didnt see it at newegg either. I love newegg, but they dont have it. I need to buy the heatsink from the same place as the cpu (if its an oem) to get the longer warrenty right? Thanks for the help.

Newegg does have the 333-bus 2600+ right here and last I knew, they didn't play that game about short warranty because you didn't order the heatsink from them.

Newegg only gives 30day warranties on OEMs but when you're checking out they offer you a 1 year warranty for very little cash, with a CPU that pricey I don't know what the amount would be but on a 1600+ it was only 5$ IIRC. BTW I noticed Newegg does make you buy the board and Cooler if you want the 2800+, they probably don't want them coming back because it wouldn't work in some goober's board or because they freaked on the temp readings with their cheesey cooler

Can't go wrong with something from SVC or Bestbyte. I was about to recommend the Thermalright AX-7, but according to Bestbyte's site, it's been discontinued and replaced by the SK-7, which is all copper. The SK-7 is $24.99 at both sites; I don't know which will have cheaper shipping; depends on what carrier you want; should be around 5-6 dollars though.
I just noticed in a review of the SK-7 that it uses a screwdriver lug for attaching the clip; if you get this heatsink, be careful when attaching it - let the screwdriver slip, and your motherboard could have some crippling damage.
