fan mufflers?

Has anybody tried any of the fan mufflers from muffled computing? I'm thinking about getting some, but worried about the temperature they would raise.

Anything that slows fans or in another way limits the ability to move air has the potential to raise temperatures. Personally, my "fan muffler" is a Sunbeam rheobus. I turn the fans down for most normal use, then way up if I need them.

I'd say they're more money than they're worth. A fan controller is worth its weight in gold if you're a quiet freak (that would be me ).

fan speed controller probably better. the muffler will inhibit air flow.. radial fans are really lousy at fighting back pressure. your better off just slowing the fan down. and getting a quite fan to begin with. slowed they are damn quiet. controllers allow you to adjust without opening case, rather convenient. unless your in a temp controlled enviroment its quite useful. in the winter you can leave fans pretty damn slow.

Thanks for all the replies. Can somebody recommend a fan controller that supports both thermo and manual control? I searched on newegg but all the controllers there seem to only allow manual adjusting.

i don'tthink thermo control is worth bothering iwth. ussually the range of control sucks. unless you engineer something with all the other components in mind, thermo control is kinda iffy. generally the ranges are wrong for any useful speed changes to happen. your better off just making sure you have enough cooling at low rpm instead of hoping the temp sensors get tripped once they hit a high temp.

get a good case, like antec/chieftec, or mod your case. cut out air restricting fan grills, cut big fan holes etc. lots of big low rpm fans move a ton of air, unless it hits 110+ degrees f in your room allof a sudden, nothing should bother your system.

i have vantec speed controllers on my comp.
