I did search and read but no one really addresses this...

What are the best fans (80 or 92) to have hooked to a baybus?

By the "best" I mean, which are the highest CFM at 12V and the quietest at 7V.

I have an Antec 830 and 1030 and am trying to decide which to put the baybus in and what the fan config will be.

Loudest thing currently in the 830 is the 6035 Alpha with the 60mm YS tech fan (whiny loud). Thinking of doing a 120 Panlfo intake and keeping the two 80 Panflos (+ps fan) for exhaust.

Also - am I correct in doing either a 80-60 shroud or getting the 60mm Papst to shut up this Alpha?

(600 Duron @ 950) 23 idle - 25 after (using MBM 5.0) 2 hours of Quake.

Just looking for a little "extra" expertiese.

Probably the Panaflo "H" series of 80 and 92 would probably be alright. Rather then the 7volt trick, use a rheostat, and dial in the speed you want. Its much safer.. some high quality power supplys don't allow you to bundle the 12v wire and 5v to make 7v. Sometimes it might even sputter or not power up at all, not a safe thing to do espically if you were to cool something thats critial to need sufficent cooling. Only bad thing about rheostats is its basicly a resistor, so its dumps the excess power and gets a little warm.

Id go with a quiet 60mm fan on the Alpha 6035, screw the do nothing adapter. But atleast get a fan that does 16cfm that will leave you about 25db fan, which is still pretty much dead quiet.

Hey, I have the same HSF combo and made a shroud out of aluminum. I simply cut a piece of plexiglass with a dremel adn hot glued it up to the top of those big logn scres and put some mediocre 80mm sunon fan on it. It is much quieter, and it keeps my system cooler. I am going to need to do somthing about my hard drives now to keep them quiet.

I dont have a digital camera, otherwise I would send you some pics. It only took about an hour and I had all of the supplies sitting around.
