I have a dell dimension 4700 and did some upgradeing(including a case)......anyway I took out the fan that was connected to the MOBO because I didn't need it anymore.....and now every time i turn on the computer it have an error message "CPU not connected press F1 to continue or press F2 to enter setup"....i really dont want to hit F1 every time.....so is there any way I can disable that onboard fan? or must I put the fan back in? Thanks alot!

I think you can turn off the 'warnings' messages in BIOS somewhere. Not sure where on a dell though.

A guess......

If there were three wires for the fan, that you removed from the mobo, one of them
was a fan speed senser wire. Dells are abreed apart sometimes. So color code may
mean little, irdk. But most fans the red is power the black ground and on mine yellow
is the speed senser wire. *IF*you have this speed senser wire disconnected. Connect it
to one of your fans that has it. The comp and OS will not know the difference, it will just be
as pleased as punch that its getting the signal again.

If this turn out to be true, post it back here. If not pursue it further with us.

Yup, as others have said you may be able to turn off the CPU fan warning in the BIOS setup (that is what the F2 option would allow you to do. But if you can't find that setting and disable it, you just need to hook some fan with a working speed sensor to the CPU fan connector on the mobo. Then you won't get the warning any more unless the fan dies or comes loose. The warning is to help protect your CPU from overheating.
. You are lucky you don't have an Asus mobo as you might have to clear the CMOS to get one of those to work again after disconnecting the CPU fan...
. And BTW, what are you using to cool your CPU now that the orignial fan is disconnected?
