With my EVGA 560ti (rig in sig) using EVGA Precision X my GPU fan speed is capped at 85% @ 4400RPM... why? Why can't I or why won't it run it at 100% ?

computer says yes...,on a serious note how does 85% sound?,wont 100% be deafening?,not sure why you cant btw.

It sounds like a supercharger on a V-8 Chevrolet (minus the exhaust note.)

No, I'm just trying to understand the software and my card's capabilities better. Running 3DMark puts it at 85% with nowhere else to go...

Something on similiar subject. My 2 680s in sli, why is it if I put it at 100% on fan ramp it splits it 50/50 each card when synced. I can only goes past 50/50 if I manually force each above it and apply.

(This is with GPU Tweak by Asus)

Sorry did you say something? I can't hear you over my GPU fan and my ears are pretty bad these days not sure why.

Have fun burning out the fan on your card

Seriously though, I think Precision X is misreporting the fan speed

What temps are you getting?

The fan is presumably temp controlled, so if the rest of your system is keeping the GPU cool enough that it only needs to run its own fan at 85% speed to stay in the correct temp range, then that's how fast it'll run.

Run the test again in July and see what happens.

Just realized that 4.4k RPM is actually 85%, if it isn't misreporting, then my joke statement actually held some truth, it's probably there to keep you from burning out your fan too fast

Why on gods green earth would anyone now a days want to ramp their gpu fan to 100%?

Last time i ever did that was back with my gtx295,then again that card still ran much warmer then my msi tf3 7850 at 45% fanspeed, which never sees a 60 cel load temp...have to put the speed at about 50% before i hear it over the 3 120mm fans in my antec 300 case which are set at medium rpms of about 1,600rpm.

Verified with GPUz.

If the fan can't handle that kind of speed, that's a reasonable answer. :\

I don't necessarily want to run it at 100%, but I'm curious as to why I can't even manually take it to 100%, or automatically (through plotting.) Noise is certainly a concern.

My GPU idles at 33C @ 40% fan, hits 85% fan @ 60C and tops out at 66C in 3DMark. My PC is in a pretty hot room... it's really bad in July!

Because it's a safeguard against driving the fan's life expectancy through the floor. Also there isn't any need to run it at 100%. If it's overheating at 85%, then there are other problems that need to be fixed instead of letting the fan get overworked and fail.

My first thought was, why in gods name would anyone want their GPU fan at even 85%?..... I dont know video cards you people run but in my experience, anything over like 60% or so is usually pretty god damn loud. I run my card at lowest possible always unless under load.

If I had my card running at 100%, you could probably hear it from 2 rooms away in my house.....

LOL 2 years ago for my birthday my girlfriend bought me a reference msi 6990,you have not heard loud till you experience having one of those in your computer.

Best part was the tower in my bedroom,i forgot to shut the pc off before bed and my gf is like what the hell is that ungodly sound so i jump out and i apply a 30% speedfan in AB then all of a sudden go to 100% and said it was the 6990.:awe:

Between the drivers and the noise,i was up at 6am the following morning racing out of town to the nearest frys for a exchange for a gtx580 and still to this day its a card she still remembers....

It idles at 40%... another parameter I can't change. Can't really hear it until it hits 50%...

The 560ti 448 has been said to be a pretty hot card, I have mine OC'ed a tad (850MHz GPU/2000MHz mem @ 1.025mV) and I just want to make sure I don't cook it.

Nvidia cards for some reason have driver level fan limitts. On the GTX470 you cant get the fan past 92%. Download fermi BIOS editor and raise the maximum percentage from 85 to 100.
