Fanless 6600GT is now a reality and in stores

I've been a silent pc fanatic for years so now I get to play some real games for a change. I had been thinking about buying a normal 6600GT and replacing the fan with a passive heat sink, but now I don't have to think about that anymore

There are many fanless cards for PCI-E as well. X800s, and 6800GTs I believe are out. Most made by Gigabyte.

It is a fact that those graphics cards DO make the noise... so having something like that will reduce the dbs dramatically

I'd go for it. My freaggin' vid. card is as loud as a vacum-cleaner, if you can silence the MF go for it. And f*ck OC'ing - for me a better value is a card that does its work without making too much noise about it...

There have been fanless 6800NUs for a while, and Gigabyte has a fanless X800XL (link). I'm pretty sure there were some fanless X800Pros as well. Sapphire is coming out with a not-quite-fanless-but-almost-silent "Ultimate" X800XL sometime soon (they announced it at CeBit; it's using the new Zalman non-heatpipe GPU cooler).

You can also buy one of the Zalman heatpipe coolers and just put it on any card. You do lose your warranty, though.
