Far Cry and Crysis, both have real world type action in the beginning - but then they just get retarded with mutants and aliens.

Will Far Cry 2 suffer from this also or will it be completely real world scenarios? I don't want any more sci-fi/horror BS.

i just want it to be more realistic, if they add mutants or Voodoo monsters then they are idiots. i want to be scared of getting shot instead of knowing i can take a rocket up my arse and 4 sniper shots to the head before im dead.

Regardless of if they add any sci-fi elements, the gameplay isn't going to be nearly as good as either Far Cry or Crysis.

Are you saying that because FC 1 was a "evolution" type of game that will be hard to surpass? In that regard, I can agree it will be tough to beat. The game doesn't seem that hyped up to me. It just seems like it's being carried from its predecessors name.

Yes - we've all played the game already - so don't waste your $$$ - go buy something else that won't be anywhere as retarded as this game.

I have read tons and tons of previews/reviews and saw no hint of any sci-fi elements. Not even anything futuristic.

Then it's going to really suck because if not for their top notch graphics no one would give a flip about either Far Cry or Crysis. Well, I may be being a bit harsh but let's just say they would be FPS also-rans. I'm betting purely game play wise Far Cry 2 will exceed both of them.

No aliens in FC2. I have high hopes for this game, but the weapon degradation concerns me... Not sure if that aspect really sounds fun at all. Sure, it's a game play element, but so was being a flashlight ninja in Doom3...

LMAO. Crysis was a horrible game. Far Cry was "ok" but nothing great. Just two tech demos.

Everyone says Crysis is horriblle? I enjoyed it as far as being an FPS, not just for the graphics.

It's not horrible, it's an entertaining FPS. However the graphics are it's claim to fame, if not for that it would have already faded into history. Play wise it's simply not on the level of a Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Half-Life, Unreal, etc. In fact I've recently reinstalled Far Cry to to see how the 64bit version was and quite frankly Crysis feels like nothing but an elaborate expansion pack to Far Cry (albeit with 3-4 years better visuals). It literally feels like the same game, I think I actually like Far Cry a little more as it seems to have a better mix of indoor/outdoor areas.

I don't think Crysis/Far Cry can really be compared to the shooters you mentioned. I love those games, but they're rail shooters. Crysis allows you to choose how to approach each situation with few scripted events, decent enemy AI, and a very fun arsenal of toys/powers.

I'll give you that. I'm sure the fact that Crysis/Far Cry is such a free roaming game makes it more difficult for the developer to set up much of the "epic" moments that make the above listed games what they are. Still, I wonder what Infinity Ward would churn out with the Crytek engine.

Beautiful linear hallways with infinitely-respawning drones. What else?

I greatly prefer the open ended levels of Far Cry and Crysis to what most FPSs have in that respect. I want to play games, not interactive movies.

There's bound to be haters. It has the highest rating far as PC games go.

Bingo.
Far Cry is a game you actually play. You can approach the levels in any manner you see fit and there are always at least two ways to beat each of them. Not unlike Deus Ex only with less gadgets and no implants.

I tried getting into each of the 3 HALO games and they all irritated me. I'm spoiled by having played too many fun games, most of which console people never see or get watered down versions of.

The LACK of free roaming environments is what really put me off Crysis...

In Far Cry I felt like I had significantly more freedom as I wouldn't be "terminated" for walking 50 metres out of the current combat area.

Yep, that was annoying. But the game was still fun nonetheless and you still had plenty of freedom. There were always at least 3 ways to approach any situation. Gotta take care of an enemy camp? You can:

A. Pulverize them with grenades/rockets/sniper rifle rounds from afar
B. Go down there guns blazing and play run 'n' gun house to house
C. Go in silently and throw people around until there's no one left.
