When I saw gameplay videos of Far Cry 3 a few months back it really looked like the game had potential. They moved back to the tropical setting of FC1, while keeping the open worldness of FC2. Still while I really enjoyed FC2 in the end it was a deeply flawed game.

Now initial reviews of FC3 are out and I am off the fence. The game looks great. A big beautiful open world, a ton of content, and polished game play. It looks like they really fixed all the criticisms that people had about the last game. On top of that the PC port looks to be very well done with FOV settings and advanced graphical settings.

Anyone else excited about this game?

Here's some of the reviews:

I am, I've watched a few live streams and it looks very promising with tons of stuff to do.

Think it will be a day 1 buy for you? I'm considering it. Unfortunately I haven't seen any pre-order deals for it which activate on Steam. The game is $50 on Steam though rather than the $60 we are seeing more and more these days.

Yeah, I'm going to get it. I can get a Steam deluxe edition from a friend for a good price as he has a few ($45)

I am, should I plead guilty?

But, seriously yeah I am, not in a "I'm hyped" way since I won't buy it on day one. But ultimately from what I've read and watched of it so far it does look like it's pretty much a "fixed FC2", sans boring driving, malaria attacks and mercenary guard posts every hundred meters of road. It looks vast, complex and to repeat myself, pretty much looks like what FC2 "should have been", and on steroids.

It has the potential to be a good FPS game overall. I'll most likely buy it.

RPS really liked the game and all they talked about was single player (all I was interested in anyways)

Co-op and MP seem to be the low point of the game. Co-op seems to be a buggy corridor shooter, and MP while looking OK seems to be nothing more than a cookie cutter COD clone. Still won't deter me from picking the game up though. A polished 30 hour shooter is a rarity these days.

After FC2, I'm going to stay far away until people convince me otherwise.

Well what were your issues with FC2? If you take a look at the reviews it seems all the big problems have been resolved. Of course I don't want to be too evangelical about the game since I haven't played it yet, but I will say it looks very very promising.

As far as I can tell, Ubisoft looked at everything that sucked about FC2, fixed it, and then improved everything else by 10x in FC3. When you take out an enemy outpost, you own it permanently. No more enemy respawning. There are also dozens of species of animals on the island, which you can hunt, skin, and eat to survive. Missions are more interesting than just "Drive from point A to point B, kill person C, repeat". Seems to be a lot more variety here.

RPS, one of the most credible PC gaming sites around, spoke very highly of it; and Eurogamer recently reviewed it, giving it a 10/10.

Also, the PC version on Ultra settings looks beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLU2ZqXx6ZY

I'm kinda like you... I think Far Cry 2 was extremely repetitive and lacking. It felt like more of a tech demo than an actual game. Far Cry 3, on the other hand, I will be absolutely be buying Day 1.

I agree with a lot of points, and I am VERY excited about this game.

There are a lot of little things that they implemented in FarCry2 that most developers ignore....things I think add a lot to the immersive feel of the game. When you get in a car, you actually open the door and crawl in. You open doors with the knob; you actually have animations for stim packs and bandaging, you never break from FP view, etc...

There were some definite annoyances with FarCry2, but I appreciate what they were trying to accomplish with that game. I'm excited to see that FarCry3 actually appears to build on a lot of the ideas they had in 2.

Using fire as a weapon looks like it's back, which was a lot of fun in FC2. I hope they also brought along some of the AI behavior, such as injured NPC's crawling to cover, or helping each other out when they're injured.

I only hope there are some options to get rid of some of the on-screen noob stuff (crosshairs, hit indicators, enemies visible behind objects). The bow looks pretty cool, and I'm glad to see you can actually aim it through the bow sights and not some floating crosshair in the middle of the screen (pay attention Crytek). The crafting options for the bow heads seems like a nice touch as well.

I hope there is a good advanced difficulty option available.

This will probably be a day 1 purchase for me. With the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise now gone, there isn't much out there offering this style of FPS gameplay. Hopefully sales will show them there is enough interest to warrant development for these types of big SP campaigns.

I did not like FC2,felt more like a driving sim to me,I will wait until I see feedback and price drop before thinking of buying FC3.

I didn't like how the missions and objectives were put across the map so often. Then you had to fight your way through the same crap multiple times as they respawned so fast. There wasn't much to do between those points either so it just added bs game time. Sounds like there's improvement on both fronts... something to actually do in the open world and less respawning garbage. Maybe it'll make my Christmas list, or my secret Santa will get it for me

I'll wait until a good deal (Steam summer sale?) before I buy it, primarily because I'm not a big FPS player, but I am looking forward to it.

Sounds really good, but I'll wait for reviews.

A lot of them out there now. Unless you mean player reviews. I watched a live feed from Gamespot the other day where they took request and the guy explained stuff, it was really great. RPS really liked it, Eurogamer who usually has issues with everything gave it a 10/10.

I don't blame you though for waiting, Far Cry 2 left a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths, but it does seem from everything that has been shown and from reviewers themselves that the devs took the FC2 hate to heart and fixed it all.

$32 at GMG too...my only hesitation is the how demanding its going to be.

I don't think you can buy it in the US from them, only in EU. If you could I might jump on that deal. As it is I just bought Guild Wars 2 and want to play Xcom and Skyrim again once their DLC's come out so I'll just wait for a sale from steam or on the physical copy. I also hated Far Cry 2 but this looks like it'll be a good game.

Nope.

Far Cry 2 was the biggest disappointment since my son.
And while my son eventually hung himself at a gas station......
Wait,
no, nevermind.

That was someone else.

I luckily avoided FC2. Not going to be excited about three until months afterwards when it has proven itself. Am I right in thinking that Ubisoft stopped their horrid DRM bs? If not I won't ever buy it.

It's no longer always online like it used to be, but you still need to register it on their steam-like system (uplay)
