Ahh okay, and this game is separate from FarCry 3 right? It sounded like an expansion at first, but the wording on websites makes it sound completely separate.

Yea, I wasn't sure when I started the thread this morning. It is definitely a standalone game that doesn't need Far Cry 3 installed.

$14.99 Pre-Purchase up on Steam. Not bad.

According to Steam description, you do NOT need Far Cry 3 to play this.

Oh, man... I watched the IGN video, and this looks even awesomer than I thought it would be. The best part is that I get it for free! :awe:

I pre-purchased this on Steam the other day, but was lamenting the fact that it didn't come out until next month. Now I learn I can play it now with no guilt seeing as how they already have my money

Hmmm!

That IGN video..lol. It's like a mix of Duke Nukem and Terminator. Will definitely give it a try since I should be getting it free

Hmmm!

The pirated version is probably also buggy. I'd just wait for the final release version.

Man I have high hopes for this game. I loved farcry 3 and from the trailer and the interviews I have seen this game looks to be an absolute blast. For $15 I'm pretty sure that this will be a day one buy, unless it somehow turns out to be horrible.

I started watching that video and stopped after a few minutes because I just want to experience it for myself.

When Little Richard played in the helicopter like Predator, I was sold. Stopped watching the IGN video because I didn't want any more spoilers.

I have never played a Far Cry game but I'm every happy that this is $15 (prolly not full length, but I'm ok with that) and isn't DLC or Expansion requiring me to buy Far Cry 3.

I'm all sorts of happy with this situation, all around.

I am very surprised by this, I really wouldn't have expected a big name studio to revamp a game via that sort of "expansion" nowadays. It's not like they're "just" adding more to the already existing Far Cry 3, like a new map for the expansion to unfold on, or new weapons and new NPCs (or, you know, like most expansions happen to do that we've known so far). They literally redid the assets (probably most of them), obviously changed the "mood", the story and its context, and adopted a completely different art style to fit the obvious 1980's sci-fi vibe going, which in and of itself looked and sounded awesome (credits where due).

After watching the trailer I had that very nice and long-dormant (since long gone) feeling of just having finished watching some Transformers episode (of the original TV series) during my pre-teenage years. They captured the "old" fashion animated style, the cheesy dialog, the exaggerated action scenes and the overall feeling of the comedy strip style of the 1980's sci-fi entertainment nearly perfectly (I say nearly since... well nothing is perfect). But really, to reiterate, I am almost baffled as to both why and how (how come) they decided to actually do that at all to start with. How did they manage to convince themselves internally that it would be financially viable to "try" it? It really seems like a gamble to me anyway. I mean they're a business, right? Or did they have some sort of sudden out of the blue eureka moment when they realized that they could also make a game that they actually want to try because they think they'd have fun in developing it too?

Well anyway, no matter I guess, it's going to happen and I am actually more interested by that one than I am by Far Cry 3 (I played it on the 360 but I haven't bought it yet for the PC). I am pretty sure that Far Cry 3 will be required to play that "expansion", but even if it doesn't then I'm sure they'll include it in some package at release (on Steam surely). So I think I'm just going to wait until they complete that one and I might end up getting Far Cry 3 along with it. I truly am interested by this and cannot wait to see more of it in action.

If there's only one thing I am sure of right now is that above and beyond anything else I might think of big name studios since the past few years is that I have to respectfully nod and show thumbs up to Ubisoft at this obvious "gambled" effort (a good one at that) to release an expansion pack at all in this current DLC dominion market. And not only that, but to actually basically re-do most of their work and assets for said expansion to try something fresh rather than going down the "let's just add a map or two with a couple of new weapons and enemies" route that most expansion packs ever managed to do... and to top it with the fact that all of that comes from Ubisoft?

I rarely say this but I think I'm sold... I think (nah I am, seriously).

It's already been stated in the thread AND steam has it in bold on the product page: Playing Far Cry® 3 Blood Dragon does not require a copy of Far Cry® 3.

From the interview I watched the campaign in the game is supposed to be about 8 hours in length, with optional hunting and exploring. Really that is surprising for a 15 downloadable title. I am also shocked that this little project was greenlit considering how much work must have been involved. Really glad to see them take a risk and release this game. Personally I wouldn't be surprised to seen them sell more copies of this game than the original Far Cry 3.

I got my code for this about an hour ago from AMD, and the game is officially released tomorrow. The only knock that I've seen for it so far is that normal difficulty is a little too easy, but that's it's a barrel of laughs and a half!
