Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (80's cyberpunk expansion)

Ugh, seriously... why do developers insist on making it so you cannot save when you want? I just want to save so I can go watch a TV show, but I always get, "You can't save in a mission." Ugh, I'm always in a mission! I quit thinking the checkpoints were auto-saves... nope... just lost a half-hour of progress.

Do they even play test games anymore? It doesn't matter how quirky fun a game is if other aspects of the game annoy you when you're trying to play it. Now, I'm going to go watch TV and be all pissy. :|

Shit so that's why. I quit half way through that mission thinking the "Checkpoints" were saves only to restart and I'm back at the beginning. That's just fucking stupid. It's like an hour to do that first mission...not everyone has that amount of time to play. I like to play a quick 40 minutes or so then quit.

ok WTF. I just tried to play this game and Uplay crashes the instant it tries to load the game. Then the game shuts down as well. This is broken out of the box. What a pile of trash.

It didn't make any difference but...
I tried again just now, the same method through my ubi account, shop and it worked!

Yes. As I said, yesterday it wasn't working, after inserting the price remained unchanged. Just after sending an email to amd support I decided to try again and the code worked.

Uplay unbroke itself, so I got to play last night. What can i say really? Its a video game. Its kind of fun and different, so I might play a little every now and then. I like the game. Pretty colors and other fun stuff.

Yep. It's definately not a $50 game.

But for the money, it's fun, and I see it as more of a 'test' than anything by UbiSoft.

I paid the asking price for it. I think it was worth it. Some of the little touches are hilarious, like the weapon and animal descriptions, mission names and one-lines.

Update: Nevermind, I was able to redeem it by using a UK proxy server to get into the site.

It's worth the $15 just to support the idea of what they are trying to do. This is definately an effort that wouldn't have been approved for a AAA big budget title. It had to be piggy backed ontop of an already successful game, soon enough after the original to stay relevant.

Personally, I love the way Far Cry 3 plays. I'd welcome 5 different spin offs based on the engine/core game of Far Cry 3. They could just as easily flip a hunting game as well. Or even a racing game.

Is there any way to run this directly from the desktop. I tried to create a short cut to the farcry3bd application; but click it just runs uplay where I then have to select the game I want to play and click it (two step process). Neither origin or steam have this 2 step process (though they both run their respective !@)(* before launching the program).

Well.. I think the only option to beat that is to use the cracked copy that got leaked. The 'crack' essentially skipped uPlay.

Yeah, that's a pretty stupid design decision, even for consoles.. But it is Ubisoft we're talking about here so not really all that surprising.

Where on my Uplay account do I add Blood Dragon? I already have Far Cry 3 and just finished filling out all the stuff to redeem the AMD code for Blood Dragon, what do I have to do to get the game?

I figured it out. You have to start uPlay on it's own. You cant go through Steam and click Far Cry 3 and have it load that way, because what it does then is loads uPlay without the ability to 'go back' and see your full list of purchased games.

It's the same thing for any ubisoft game on steam, unless the game was on steam before they started using Uplay.

Also I'm not sure I've seen many issues, it seems people just don't understand how it works. Games bought outside of steam (or given for free through AMD) run through Uplay. You have to launch Uplay to get to those games. Steam versions include Uplay but do NOT link to your main uplay account, so you'll never see those steam games in the separate Uplay client. When you click "play" on steam it'll launch that specific game on Uplay which you have to then click "play" there to start it. Since that is the steam specific version, you will not see any other games from that instance of Uplay if you went to the games tab.
