Far cry 3 worth admission if I hated nr. 2

Just upgraded my 3yr old PC and trying to find some cool games my old rig couldn't handle with things turned up. Just finished Metro 2033 which was awesome and I'm planning to get Metro Last light soon but I need a brake from the dark I'm wondering if I should shelf out 50$ for Far Cry 3. I loved the original but Far cry 2 was just pure shit to me. I hate sorta open world mindless point A/B ... get paid for the same thing over and over type of games. I also hated how he could pull bullets out of his arms mid combat and all was well.

I know Far Cry 3 is probably better, but is it more like the first game or the second. I've seen in most reviews that give it a high score that they aren't that critical of Far Cry 2. Just talk about it replacing that respawning NPCs at checkpoints thing.

Anyone who has played all three?

I haven't played all three, but Far Cry 3 is definitely a good game. It's too bad it came out on the Xbox 360 and PS3 though, as the game is consolized to a large degree.

And I don't know what country you're posting from, but you definitely don't need to spend 50 bucks for Far Cry 3 as it's not a new title anymore.

Also, word of advice, if you're using NVidia hardware, use HBAO. If you're using AMD, use HDAO.

FarCry3 has much better mechanics overall.


IMO, FarCry2 had a far better/more interesting story and significantly better AI.

I don't know why they would go through all the effort of working up all of those really interesting AI behaviors and scripts in the FC2 only to abandon them for the generic behaviors they used in FC3.....they took a really big step backward for no reason.


You should be able to get it cheaper now. Despite what I don't like about it, I still had a lot of fun playing it, and got a lot of hours of entertainment out of the deal.

if you didn't like the repetitiveness of fc2, then you won't like fc3 either.

Far Cry 3 is absolutely worth a play through. If you are short on time and patience, just put it on easy and spend a day hacking at it. Good times.

I am planning on picking it up, but am going to wait for a good sale on steam, or maybe wait for a black Friday or Christmas deal. I don't want to pay more than 15 or 20 dollars for it.

I started the first game and got stuck in the middle of it, and barely started the second game and just wasn't interested.

I still would like to try FC3, just for the graphics if nothing else. I did read that the ending was disappointing though.

There's more in FC2 to hate than that, so it's not necessarily true.

I hated FC2 but liked FC3. I didn't play though it all but put in a lot more time before moving on, where with FC2 I actively disliked it and only played a few hours before throwing it away.

Far Cry 3 is good but not great. It's really the very definition of a mixed-bag IMO. Case in point - game has awesome graphics but why do the NPC's all have only 3 or 4 different faces...?

It is repetitive but traveling isn't as boring as FC2 by far. That was my biggest gripe with FC2, long distance travel times for a mission and you have to travel all the way back when you're done.

I'm having lots of fun with Farcry 3, I got it for only $19 from GetGamesGo (or whatever it's called)...also picked up Skyrim: Legendary Edition for $31 at Gamefly - the Summer deals for PC Gaming have been amazing so far, can't wait for the Steam Sale.

I hated FC2 and found FC3 worth the time. Still the same open roaming world, but more fast travel and less annoying respawning guard posts.

Steam summer sale should start any day.

As the far cry series usually goes on deep discount during a sale, wait a few more days and you should be able to save a lot of money.

I had a ton of fun playing Far Cry 3. The visuals were great on max settings as well, which I'm glad they put the time into polishing. The open world is done really well, and it might be repetitive to some, but I got addicted to going to every location on the map and capturing them and of course fixing the radio towers.

There is a good variety of weapons, and the bow is a blast to use. I found the story to be decent, but I guess that all depends on the person. I played a little bit of it online and it's alright but if you're looking for a game more focused on multiplayer there are better titles out there.

I got about 20 hours out of my playthrough which is solid for an FPS in my opinion but you may want to wait for a price drop if open world repetitiveness can annoy you lol.

GRIND for resources to craft more clip holsters

Except you have to Grind to make bags and wallets large enough to fit the money and materials

So its one long grind after another, mindlessly killing and skinning pigs and things, it's just a first person shooter world of warcraft, grinding belongs in MMORPGS not single player FPS games.
