Far Cry Artifacting bad X1950XT

Edit: Using drivers on Sapphire CD and it's working great now!

I've got my new fancy 1950xt and now far cry doesn't want to work with it. ugh...

It artifacts like in the pics on any settings but low; and I have no idea why...

I've got AF/AA set to application controlled. Tried Vsync on and off with no results.

Setup:

A64 4000+ oc'ed from 2.4 to 2.8
2x1gb of value ram ddr400
x1950xt 256 at stock

Is the game fully patched? I had crazy artifacts with my 6800GS. You might also want to set your CPU back to stock.

Is this only happening with Far Cry or are you having problems in other games too?

Fully patched to 1.4... I've uninstalled and reinstalled a couple times also.

I'll have to try running cpu at stock since that's about the only thing not stock in my setup.

Edit: It only happens in farcry; I've played a lot of other games and they all run great.

Good point, I'm using 7.1 catalyst right now; I'll try cat 6.1 and see if anything changes...

The reason I asked is that I had a lot of trouble getting Far Cry to work with my X1900XTX too.. no artifacting for me, just random lockups with Cat v6.6 through v6.11 ... works fine with my 8800GTX now though.

Make sure you used the right patch to update to v1.4 ... there are two versions available & the one you use depends on the version you start out with... if you had v1.0 you need the cumulative patch which is 180mb's.

Well, I just tried all stock settings on cpu/ram and it's still happening... and I tried to install cat 6.10 and it said it was not a suitable driver..? Does the 1950 not work with the older drivers?

Given that v6.10 had a release date of 11/1/06 its possible it doesn't support the X1950 ... try v6.12 instead.

Anyways, I uninstalled my cat 7.1 drivers and installed the new drivers using the Sapphire CD that came with the card. Surprisingly there were 6.10 drivers on it; but they actually installed.

Fired up Far Cry and it's working great! So I guess the new 7 drivers don't get along with Far Cry; at least on my pc... This is the first time I've run into a problem with the notoriously bad drivers from ATi after having 5 ATi cards...

I'm not surprised that the drivers included with the card worked because Sapphire would have included the required inf file so it was recognized correctly during install while the ATI supplied driver might not have for whatever reason... also I'm not sure I tried Cat v6.10, I know I tried v6.6, v6.11 & v6.12 without success though.

Glad to hear you got it working ... now lets just hope none of your other games got borked in the process!

Those artifacts are Memory related, over-heating, not driver issues.

I doubt it since Far Cry was the only game it happened in & also more importantly because he already fixed it by installing cat v610.

7.1 gave me errors in FarCry on my x1900xt. Switching back to 6.12 completely solved the problems.....

Do you guys have any hardware in common? Chipset, CPU, etc? Did you guys report the bug to ATI?
