This demo falls under the "biggest in size yet shortest" category, looks good though.

This game looks beautiful so far. It is one of those games that was truly a sight when first starting out. I am running a GF4 Ti4600 so framerates are not incredible. The sound quality is extraordinary, like nothing I have heard in a long time. Personally, sounds are a large aspect of a game, sometimes more than eye candy and I think this game blends both beautifully. Great Job Crytek!

Framrates are good with 4x/8x on. around 70-105 fluctuating.
P4 2.8 ASUS P4P800 1GB DDR and eVGA 5900nu by the way.
However, the game kind of does suck a bit. Control response is bad, and take a look at how the ocean water hits the shore. Very crappy.
I could just be spoiled though from just playing Call of Duty. No THATS a well made game.

I have already uninstalled the Far Cry Demo as I will pretend it never existed. Will not pursue a purchase.
My humble opinion.

I saw a demo of this on EP months ago and thought it looked really good. I downloaded it and tried it out at default settings and had a rather strange experience.
Everything was flashing and I couldn't see things at all. I went into the settings and adjusted everything from medium to low and it played fine.
Then I went systematically through everything til I could get the best quality.

Well, everything is running at very high except water which is running at Medium, and special effects which has to run at low or else it just flashes.
It runs pretty well on my machine which only has a TI4400 and a 2500+ at 3200+.

It's smooth enough to play but requires more horsepower than alot of games I've tried, including BF1942 and COD.

Huh? Far Cry has the best water I've ever seen. Look at it from a boat or raft. Look at it from above on a cliff. It looks amazing. So what if it's not perfect where it hits the shore? The point is it actually does move like waves and looks realistic (unlike most other games including Call of Duty). Oh, and speaking of CoD, it's a cool game but it's also heavily scripted and totally linear.

It's even more fun to swim in.

Got a couple of questions for you guys. I'm a relative newbie to games like this and I'm a little clueless about a few things. I was wondering if someone could help me.

How do you steer the boat?

Can you open the crates? If so, how do you do it?

Can you save the game on your own?

Where's the damn munitions pack? I almost finished it (in easy mode) and now I'm just walking around aimlessly trying to find the damn munitions pack.

BTW.. My FPS averages about 40-50 and dips as low as 30 at times with a GF4 Ti4200. It's at default resolution with AA on low.

TIA,

Sal

I always play games on medium or normal if they have it. But, I'll try playing it on hard.

What about auto balance AI, what does that do?

Salvador: I customize my keys when I play FPS games but the way I steer the boat is the same way I strafe left or right. As far as saves, I believe it will only save once you complete a certain objective. Not sure on the crates. My guess would be your "use" key or maybe you can blow them up? I haven't played far into it yet (too busy looking at the amazing graphics) so I haven't found the munitions pack.

Like I said, its my opinion. Reminds me of Serious Sam for some reason. Call of Duty actually is the first game I have ever played where I got scared. I know sounds dumb. But the realism of the action is fantastic beyond anything I have seen anyways. The movement of the charectars is always different. You never see them do the same thing twice. Anyways, enjoy the game guys. I just wont be joining you.

No problem - we all have our favorites. I don't understand the comparision to Serious Sam though. Serious Sam reminded me of a modern day Doom. You know, a crapload of baddies over and over. I played all the way through with my bro (thanks for including coop! ) but it was pretty much spawn, kill, kill, kill, die, spawn, kill, kill, die, spawn, etc, etc. Not a bad game for the price though...

I must admit I enjoyed Halo on the XBox and I purchased it (again) for the PC. Halo sure isn't going over big in this forum though. I do like CoD as well. Best game to come out in a while IMO. Great graphics, sounds, effects and like you said you really get into the game.

But I'm really looking forward to Far Cry. If it's done right it could be a really kickarse single player game and the multiplayer should be a blast as well.

I'm sorry. I meant Demolition Pack, not Munitions Pack. Where the hell can I find it? I hate to be running around the jungle looking for it without anyone else to kill now.

I'm getting the hang of the rest of it. I've just been told that all first person shooters are similar in the controls. The problem is that I've never really played a first person shooter before. Like I said, I'm new to gaming.

Are the graphics pretty intensive on this game compared to others out there? They look pretty good, but I don't know what cutting edge is these days.

Have you guys sat there and shot up the soldiers yet? You can just sit there and shoot the hell out of them. Kind of fun.

If you like mutilating bodies, try Soldier of Fortune 2. You can chop limbs off and all that good stuff. That game has some of the most realistic gore I've ever seen. The only thing it lacks is ragdoll effects, but that was before it's time since it's based on the Quake 3 engine. :thinking; I wonder when Soldier of Fortune 3 is coming out

When you enter that last compound with the Satellite on top, after the helicopters are shooting at you... go into the first door on the left, kill the dude in there, then go to the right side and there's a weapons locker. You'll find the explosives in there. Then just go plant the bomb on the generator and run like hell =)

It's in the same room as where you kill the commander. walk up the stairs and to the left then back then right. It's in a little room with fence like door. There's ammo, armor jacket, etc... and the bomb that you need.
