Well in one screenshot the grass and trees are leaning further right and in the other, they are leaning left. Obviously the 8800 is superior since the trees and grass are leaning to the right.

Other than that, I understand what you are saying by the graphics look practically identical except for one being slightly brighter.

meh toms have been abit rubbish for a while now

but the fact that the 8800 provides angle independant AF in standard mode, then tightens it further in HQ is better than ATi only offering it in HQ mode and i think its been noted on mny sites that now NV's HQAF > ATi's HQAF

but i wouldnt worry, the quality of both is that good you'd have to be the most anal bastard in existance pick out any discernable difference

Yeah, I just don't like how he said it's FAR SUPERIOR, then provides some crappy low res screenshots that look identical. I mean, talk about the worst place to take a screenshot to show off Oblivion and a great "time of day" to do it.

I don't know what's the standard for being "far superior", but from looking at the 2 sample images, nvidia's image is sharper, the color seems deeper, also the mountain on the back of the view made some distances. Other than those, they are pretty much identical to me. I wouldn't doubt the 8 series can produce some better images whereas the GTX and GTS are the newest out there. $600 something for a long a$$ card..

I dunno, man, Nvidia's looks far more defined and deep. The edges on things are smooth but not as blurry as the X1950. You can see more clearly.

You're blind...

j/k

The G80 image is superior.

I think the difference is probably more pronounced when you're actually looking at the screen while playing.

That's hilarious. I thought exactly the same thing when I read that, I just thought I was missing something.

The IQ in the 8800 is better, a nice ammount better thanks to better AF, it looks great in movement.

Far better... nope, quite better... yep.

Maybe it looks better in motion...the Anisotropic Filtering quality on the G80 is supposed to be near-perfect. Still, horrible screenshot comparision no doubt.

I personally have a hard time telling apart most of the 8x, 8xQ and 16x AA screenshots that almost all in-depth G80 reviews carry (and I imagine it should be easier to identify jaggies than color/saturation). Again, maybe it's more evident in motion, while you are fighting hordes of enemies in a frantic firefight.

...in these screenshots?

The only real difference I can see is that NVIDIA's image is a little bit brighter -- but I don't know which one is 'right'. In terms of smoothness of the edges of trees/rocks/mountains, etc. (you can't really compare the foliage well, since it's animated and isn't exactly the same in each shot) -- looks nearly identical to me. There are some minor texturing differences, but most of the objects are pretty far away. It actually seems like the X1950 shot has slightly sharper textures on the tree trunks -- but maybe those are actually filtering artifacts.

The 8800 may actually look better in motion with its improved AF -- but if so, this is a lousy screenshot to show it. Not to mention that the JPEG compression makes it very hard to pick out texture detail...
