Farberware?s Classic cookware is aptly named for its traditional style that complements any kitchen decor. This 9-piece set offers a grouping of essential pans at a great value. The set includes 1-quart and 2-quart covered saucepans, 8-inch and 10-inch nonstick skillets, a 5-quart covered Dutch oven, and an extra straining lid that locks onto the Dutch oven. The straining lid has two holes sizes; the larger is ideal for draining lasagne noodles, corn on the cob, or potatoes while the smaller holes are better for draining angel hair pasta or rice.
Farberware Classic cookware is constructed of gleaming 18/10 stainless steel for a timeless appearance and has an aluminum disk encapsulated in the base of each pan to spread heat evenly without hot spots. Phenolic plastic handles stay cool on the stovetop and are oven-safe to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. This cookware is dishwasher-safe and is covered by a lifetime limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

QUALITY BARGAIN, July 11, 2003
Reviewer: flomary (see more about me) from POINT PLEASANT, NJ United States
Cooking, is not my thing, but most have to, and if you do, this
fairly complete set, will be a pleasure to use and care for.
A high light of this set was The lid with holes for draining pasta, and such, included with the dutch oven. I had considered a tv ad purchase on this for twenty bucks...I am glad I waited.

Amazon.com knows how to put a bargain together. No one beats their cookware sale prices. Thanks to that, I am able to have good quality cookware, that I wouldn't ever consider purchasing at regular sale prices.

farberware stands the test of time, February 16, 2003

I have had Farberware pots and pans for over 30 years. They never stick, burn, clean up well (and easily) and still look new after all these years. I am looking forward to ordering this new pasta pot edition. I use the 1 and 2 quart pans on a regular basis and can definitely use a few more. Can't wait to try this pasta pot.

Look up "Farberware Classic" on Amazon. They have a bunch of sets that are virtually the same, save for a piece or 2. Just read the reviews on there.

Farberware, normally, has pretty good stuff. Its stainless steel inside and out, so they'll be easy to clean (and of course, the non-stick surfaces on the skillets will be even easier). Also, stainless steel provides a non-reactive surface to work with- some people are concerned about metal leaching out when cooking acidic foods (like with plain aluminum). I've never used the classic set (I've used some pieces from the Farberwars Millenium collection), but these are my concerns:
1) I would like to know how heavy they are- usually, the heavier a pan is, the thicker the aluminum core is, and therefore the more even the heat disrtibution
2) The cookware has plastic handles, which means you can't use it in the oven above 350F (I own cookware with metal handles so I don't have to worry about this)
3) the pieces in the set are on the smaller side (no 12" skillet, no 4-quart sauce pan)

For many people, these things don't matter (I like to cook alot, so they do for me), then its a pretty good deal on what seems to be a pretty good set. Also remember:
"For every $50 you spend on Kitchen & Housewares products offered by Amazon.com, you'll receive a promotional certificate for $10 off a future Amazon.com purchase."

Okay, thanks for the tip. My mom says this sounds like an awesome deal for Farberware... I'm looking for a nice set for my college buddies and I to share in our new apartment.

There's also these for $10 less: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005A9WB/ref=pd_sim_ki_1/104-1468477-9377558?v=glance&s=kitchen

My main question is, for the money, is this good deal?

There are a bunch of Farberware for about the same price:

example 1

Example 2 - 14 Piece for $39.99

I do not know anything about cooking stuff and those reviews on Amazon can be very vague and don't tell you if the price comapred to other places is good. am I better off just going to Wal-Mart or what?

All Faberware pots and pans are quality stuff. If you want stainless steel you could do much worse. I'm not sure if they make pots from other metals. OTOH, Faberware knives are worthless.

Classic Farberware stainless steel pots and pans will last forver. My mom has hers going on 40 years, and mine have lasted 20 and still going strong. Even if you burn something in it, you can scrub them out with a brillo and they are no worse off.

Every few years you will take a screwdriver and tighten up a handle, that's about it. They I couldn't live without mine!

This is a great deal IMO.
