I have seen a number of people using FarCry as the reason for wanting to upgrade to a new card, so I was wondering what people thought of the game. I personally loved the game. It looks great and plays well enough on my 5900. Aside from that, I thought that the different levels offered new challenges that required a differnet approach for successful completion. which kept me from getting bored with it. Overall, the gameplay far outweighed the storyline, but with a game as fun as this I really didn't care.

I do realise that this is a bit off topic, but FarCry is mentioned often enough in this forum in regards to video cards that I find it difficult to seperate the two at this point.

The people I trust about gaming, including the ones who couldn't contain himself and bought me Tribes (that's still kinda funny), didn't have anything good to say about it.
If they'd recommended it, I would have bought it, even the though the demo was boring. Eye candy doth not make an excellent game. I'm even replaying Quake2 and the Serious Sams...they have definitely proven I'm not just getting tired of FPS games...the Battlefield games and Far Cry (demo anyway, didn't want to waste money) just aren't that fun.

it was ok.....for me the most fun I had was driving sh1t around and crashing...thats about it....so yeah I bought a game that isnt Carmageddon and Im trying to play Carmageddon
aside from that....shotting peoples bodies and watching them bounce and what not is always fun.....

old and tired? in what other fps can you such a vast amount of enemies working together in huge environments?

none, that i know of; which is why i say it is a great game.

the game is hard with everyone knowing ur there....i played the demo and easy and las soon as i got on the beach, about 10 people were shooting/nading me, i died really fast...I ONLY HAD A FRIGGIN PISTOL! how u supposed to take out 20 gusy with Ak,s Assult rifles, and nades with a blade and a pistol!!

I haven't actually even played the actual game, since i've been playing UT2K4 since it came out with all the little spare time i have.

If i ever get bored of UT2K4, i'll start on Painkiller...& if i can ever get that done, Far Cry is on the list.

I have yet to see them work together. Most of the time they tend to stand around, walk right into my line of fire, or attack nearby rocks or trees.

I have yet to be impressed by anything in Far Cry aside from the graphics.

The demo is really kinda hard because they start you on a new level with only the pea shooter. This forces you have to be extra sneaky in the demo to take out some guys and get their weapons. The actual game progresses in a more natural fashion. I wasn't really very excited about the game myself after just playing the demo, but I kept hearing about the game on this forum, so I decided I'd give the actual game a shot. I am glad I did.

We will have better AI when we have considerably more powerful machines that can handle what it requires to produce truely "smart" adversaries in games... AI isn't really there yet on any game, why else do you think online gaming is so popular? Nothing beats a real player - for now.

storylines are important sometimes at least.. i loved farcry.. but why did i get the feeling with the storyline i had seen it all before?? hmmmm

Wasn't too impressed with Far Cry Demo. Loved CoD though. I'll maybe download the FC demo again and give it one more try.

Neither was I. In fact, I almost pasted over the game because I thought the demo was rather boring. It wasn't until I heard all the glowing accolades from people I know that I finally gave the full game a chance. Now I'm glad I did. It's great game, but you have play as whole to appreciate it.

I recognize this. I don't think Far Cry is bad per se, but it is decidedly average. There's nothing in that game that hasn't already been done extensively before aside from PS2.0

To me, it just felt like Joe Shooter...enemies...check...graphics....check....vehicles....check....Nothing new or innovative, and it didn't feel very polished either.

Here's the thing though - if the demo is unimpressive, game companies shouldn't be surprised if the game doesn't do well. The demo is your sales pitch, and if it's bad or unimpressive...well, people aren't going to shell out $$$ for more of it.

The game may be better than any of the 3 demos in the full version. But I didn't like any of the three demos, and I trust my own feelings far more than any reviewer - so no, I am not going to purchase this game, and it's Crytek's fault if anyones.

Yeah, the format is definitely one that has been done before. I think what makes FarCry new and intersting from a gaming standpoint was the fact that the environment was wide open. Most shooters I have played enclose you in a very bounded world. I'm sure there are boundaries to FarCry's levels, but in normal gameplay I never hit the 'edges' so the world seemed realistic to me. The cool part about that is that the game doesn't feel as linear as most.

Compare it to Max Payne 2 for instance (another really fun game). In Max Payne 2 the game play is very linear and it almost feels like you are being guided through a funhouse (I know, I know... there is one in the game) with the villans popping out at you at pre-determined spots. Once you shoot one, another pops up. With FarCry you can go straight into the fight and confront the enemies as they come, or you can double back around a cliff and pick off guys with the sniper rifle, or hop in a vehicle to gun them down or go around them. Doing any of these will cause the enemy to respond differently - set yourself up correctly and you can pick em off one at a time, go in with no thought or assessment of the situation and you will most likely get gunned down. This game takes patience and a bit of planning. You might have to stalk your enemy for a while as opposed to just gunning them down.

What exactly didn't you like about the demos? You make it sound as if the game is just too basic for you and didn't present a challenge. Or is it that you had your ass handed to you on a platter and got sick of getting fragged? Obvioulsy, you are entitled to your own opinion, I'm just curious and making conversation because I'm finished w/ FarCry and HL2 or D3 haven't come out.

Single player is fun, almost as good as CoD I'd say, but the multiplayer is ass-tastic and unpopular. I'll take CiD or UT2K4 anyday. Problem with single player games is replay-ability, once or twice and you're done. /shrug
