You guys obiviously aren't playing the game on a considerable difficulty level, if the AI is that easy. If the AI really is that bad what game does have better AI? The game graphically is awesome, you can't tell me you've done this before. You haven't been in a huge tropical enviorment. The only things I don't like about the game is near the end with the absurb amount of mutants. That is just plain lame, other than that the game was generally good. The game was made for combat not really a complex Deus Ex storyline. Multiplayer is sub-par, however we don't have a dediciated server release and it is very dependent on your ping, however like I said we have no dedicated server release.

I'd give the game a B overall, if the multiplayer was better I'd give it a A-

I want some fresh new dynamics, like the physics system in Half-Life 2, or STALKER's stats-free roleplaying system. I need innovation. Far Cry just didn't have it.

Funny because half life's physics system is simply the havoc engine....I'm pretty sure farcry has it, even if it doesn't it's nothing new anymore.....Half life2 is gonna be that game that people say- "if only this was released last year" (or two years ago at the rate they're going)........

IMO farcry is a great single player experience, but the multiplayer sux....

Yep almost beat this game on realistic.. still stuck on volcano, keep getting blasted by "fat boys."

Well I really wish the new 1.2 patch thats coming out gives better compatibility to the nvidia FX series graphics cards. Even with FW60.34 and 1.1, farcry still has shadow rendering issues and disappearing polygons.. and occasional entity ghosting (the shark).

These bugs force me to play on my 9800pro/intel rig even though the game was made for A64/nvidia..

Until a 64bit operating system comes out, you will be playing FarCry in 32bit mode. Any game you play on the A64 will definately take advantage of the Memory Controller but not the 64bit code.

Has anyone tried to play FarCry in the experimental Open GL mode? I bet that would look great on an Nvidia card. I always thought Nvidia cards were the best at Open GL.

I like it. Good game, great price, and long. Only thing it lacks is good multi.

i think its a pretty good game, but nothing to special. i loved the graphics and and the gameplay was ok. I think that there should of been more weapon variaty. a better storyline would be good too. It was good but it was no deus ex. deus ex was a great game.

It's not perfect... a few peeves of mine are:
- you need to open text window and type to save manually, and that's buggy
- shooting mercenaries 5+ times in the head and having them still come after you, saying ridiculously dorky things, gets annoying. Make it harder by adding more guys or upping their IQs, but don't make it completely unrealistic
- It's night time, you're crawling silently through the woods, the guys inside a building a quarter mile away hear you & start shooting (very accurately I might add). Again, realism would be nice.
- It's a bit too hard. I'm all for a challenge, but the rocket guys especially probably shouldn't even be in the game (or should be a bit less invulnerable) in the lowest two or three difficulty settings.
- There are a few bugs. I managed to get stuck behind a door

That's the bad. I'd write a book on the good, but instead will just give it a 4/5 and reiterate that it's the most fun I've had since half life.

I thought FarCry was a great game. The environment was huge and very immersive, which I thought added to the gameplay in addition to the beauty. The trigents were potent, and made them pretty damn scary to me. You valued your life in that game. Sure kept you on your toes. I think some parts of the game were extremely intense, such as the level where you walked out of this science complex and ran right into a massive battle between the trigent and the mercenaries. It was incredible. I also enjoyed the treetop village, and the level where your lady friend drove a jeep while you gunned from behind. That was pretty damn fun. I think the AI are fairly smart. They flank, throw grenades, regroup, and oftentimes dissapear and nail me from behind. The game just had a good feel to it for me. I was impressed. I'd probably give it a 9/10.

Cut and paste these lines into the bottom of your DevMode.lua file in the game directory, (open with Notepad), save and close, now you can save anywhere using F9 and F10.

Input:BindCommandToKey("#Game:Save('Quicksave')","f9",1);

Input:BindCommandToKey("#Game:Load('Quicksave')","f10",1);

As far as the difficulty and realism, if you tick the Auto AI, it will adjust to your skill and make kills easier or harder, example, if you take 10 shots and miss you bot 8 times, they will be easier to kill. If you die from a sniper shot 2miles away, it will take more shots to kill you next time.

The rocket guys are a b*tch to kill. I have no answer there.

Hope this helps

Cool, thanks for the tip. Again, if my post seems like I'm knocking the game, I'm really not. It's awesome and well worth the $33 I paid for it.

Good game.

Some bits are annoyingly difficult and despite the fact that the devs want you to believe the game is open and you can employ lots of different strategies to solve given situations that obviously isn't the case in some parts of the game. And those islands really aren't as big as they're made out to be; you're always being guided through in some general direction, there is usually only one way to approach an enemy camp for example.

And the dialogue and enemy taunts is a fekkin joke. I swear one of them sounds like the dumb cop from South Park: "I'm gonna shoot your ass!"

Aside from that, great tech and it is a lot of fun.

I just finished this game last week and agree that it is long, not just becasue there is a lot of content, but because you spend a good portion of your time doing the same thing over and over until you memorize exactly where every enemy is (remember the sneak level with the gun with only 10 rounds?). I know the devs said they wanted to make it harder and open, but how does an open game work when it relies on a checkpoint system? I can't roam because I have to find the certain spot that saves my game, that is not non-linear in my opinion. Why do the cars always go backward when on a hill? A brake of some osrt would have been nice. How come the FAT BOYs have unlimited rockets? That really destroyed the realism when this big mutant can fire rocket after rocket at you. Why can the big mean special forces guy only run 10 feet before getting tired? It was ridiculous how far he could run before exhaustion, I could run farther than that and I sit and play computer games all day. The enemy AI had omnipotent senses that rival that of GOD, except sometimes you could walk right by them and they didn't notice you, other times they saw you from literally half a mile and knew exactly where you were.

My biggest complaint is that I want to choose where I save and how often, especially if the game tries to be nonlinear. I like these kinds of of games because I like to kill things, if I want to play tealth I will play splinter cell. I want to shoot lots of things, crawling past a FAT BOY at .0001 mph with no ammo does not entertain me nearly as much as shooting someone from 372 meters with a sniper rifle. Oh, and what was with the hang glider? That was the most useless vehicle of the bunch, never got me where I needed to go. But the graphics are impressive, some of the levels are a lot of fun, other levels are tedious, but there are alot of them either way. It is a good bang for the buck, spent a lot of time enjoying myself, other times yelling at the screen, sometimes I was even genuinely startled when a trigen showed up unexpectedly.

The games demo sucked, I had the same comlalints as others, it seemed to me that it provided you with enough weapons, just not enough ammo. But I took a risk and really enjoyed the game, didn't play multi at all though as I am knee deep in Americas Amry and any free online time is dedicated to building that honor.

Sorry if the post is a little long, but alot of this stuff I have wanted to get off my chest for a while about the game. That sneak level made me so dang mad.

Beyond the graphics, which are no less than stunning, the AI is good. Not great, but good. "Crappy story!" Gee, what do you people expect? Name an FPS with a deeper story, if you can. It's all about action and environments. If game companies spent years developing a solid, well-written story for each game they made it would go unappreciated by 99% of gamers anyway.

If you REALLY want to know what FC is about read some reviews, and ignore the people here who have played the demo ONLY, but strangely have an opinion on the retail. Better yet, just BUY it. If $29 is going to kill you then games aren't what you should be doing.

Yeah, and if you want to see the best AI I'm aware of, try UT2k4 DM bots.

There are night vision goggles to see in the dark areas. As a matter of fact you have to use them on some of the bots because they are invisible to the naked eye. The night vision is call cryvision. You also have flash lights. The knife/machetti is the best weapon to kill the mutants in close combat.
...yeah, but cryvision is for wusses. why else do you think they call it "cryvision"?

awesome game... beats the last few shooters I played (CoD SP, Max Payne 2) and it feels more "fun" than Hitman 2 which was what I last played before those 2.

also, to people who think this is a great benchmark: is there a standard benchmarking process/demo file to use so we can accurately compare results?

I'm a wuss that can read and try to take an objective view of the game by using all features of the game before I review it. I was just saying that there are features for the problems you stated you did not like about the game. This was right out of the manual that came with the game. You get it, a game.

To start from the beginning...

Graphics - very good... decent water, beautiful skies, good looking mountains with lots of foliage. Only bad part is diving into the water doesn't make waves... even driving a vehicle into the water and blowing it up doesn't make waves. Also... shooting a leaf only makes leaf parts fly, but the actual leaf doesn't move. Nice lighting effects and detailed textures.

Physics - average... nice ragdoll effects, but after you kill someone on a hill, their body gradually slides down the hill as if it were on a sheet of ice. Shooting a dead body in strategic places flips the body up into the air which is totally unrealistic looking, although I don't actually know what it looks like to kill someone, then pump their carcass full of M60 rounds. Barrels roll very strange, as if they're always under water. They need to move faster. Only some crates can be moved, and they slide down hills similar to how bodies do. I want to be able to move EVERY crate. I want to be able to shoot the banans inside the crate near the beginning of the demo.

Sound - good... it's not spectacular. Sometimes with the positional audio for some reason I can't hear my M4 because of the accoustics of palm trees and mountains on either side I guess Music is annoying so I turned that off 3 seconds after I got into the game. I do like the background sounds though of waves crashing and birds chirping. Coversation between mercenaries is a little silly if you listen to them while looking through the binoculars... there should have been some fvcks and sh!ts and d!cks and stuff like that. Real mercenaries don't call eachother "stoopid." And when they get shot they don't yell "oowwwww!!!" Slap an MA17 rating on it (if it isn't already) and make them yell "Fvvvvvck!! my leg! Kill that d!ck sucker!"

Gameplay - average... the way to make a good game is not to just make it so difficult that even on the easiest level you must replay parts 5 or 6 times to get past it. The volcano level is insane... I ended up using God Mode to finish it cause I was so pissed. Then I was even more disappointed because the ending is horrible. It seems to me that the developers got sick of working on it and said "Dude, just throw a buttload of enemies in the middle of a volcano, stick the player inside the volcano, then slap a 20 second ending animation on it and ship it out so I can get to work on the displacement mapping patch and make it even prettier."

Easy there chief.... Did you not notice the smiley at the end of the statement? it was more of a joke on the name "cryvision" than anything else.
