The CryVision goggles in Farcry work rather well, albeit for a short time. On the other hand, night vision goggles in Crysis are almost useless.

I've played it through 3 separate times in about a 5 yr period. Actually "plays" better than Crysis IMO (graphics aside of course - just gameplay).

Now if only the online community came back strong. The sequential capture the flag system they had in this game was amazing. Mango River was one of the best maps of all time (aside from some of the user created ones).

Totally agree. I've played it through at least 3 times, maybe more.

Funny though, when I first played it I could not put settings very high and it only looked ok and I honestly did not even make it half way through the game. After upgrading my hardware I played it again, completely maxed out, and I was totally immersed and fell in love with the game. It's not perfect of course, but it's a lot of fun and it looks amazing.

Yes i love this game. What I like especially is how u can go through a level in several different ways. you can go on the main path, swim around, sneak thru the jungle, or find a humvee and plow through

Man, Far Cry's beating of Doom3 to the Next Gen punch was just too slick.

While everyone was patiently waiting on Doom3 jaw dropping graphics, Far Cry dropped on the market.

Not only did it beat Doom 3 to market, what it offered was better.

Doom 3 - Linear FPS crammed in dark corridors.

Barfo, this is probably the same reason you're playing FC and not BS2.

OK.....I got HDR working finally.....but then there is no AA......I think I like the game better with AA.

While it is HDR......it just seems way over done to me......maybe I should try number 1.....I used 2 because I read it was the best.....unfortunately....it just looks way to fake at times......

You need to play around with the HDR parameters as I said earlier. I was using these settings:

r_HDRBrightOffset = "3.000000"
r_HDRBrightThreshold = "3.000000"
r_HDRLevel = "0.300000"
r_HDRRendering = "2"

It can still looks odd in a few situations, especially if you look straight up in a dark area, but overall I prefer the look with it than without it.

I think Far Cry's graphics have held up much better than anything else from its time period. And the engine was capable of even more. If you try the Delta Sector mod, you can see just how far ahead of its time it was.

CP5670 Thanks for those settings.....I will give them a shot.

At times it looks great, as you can see from these shots.......I just wish i could use AA also, as it does not seem to work with HDR on.

For Nvidia cards, make a profile using the "Oblivion/Fallout 3" AA compatibility setting in nHancer. That allows AA to work with HDR in Far Cry too.

I have it installed in my Vista64 i7 rig [GTX260] using the 64 bit patch. I'v got it in a P4 XP, agp XFX 7950 box also.

My biggest gripe with the game at first was no quick save until I found the
/save_game 1 or whatever command. After that I remember typing that furiously in some spots he he. Like the helicopter by the freighter scene- yikes that was a tough one
I confess to having the -devmode cheat installed-just in case!
This thread is making me start another run through ,probably my 3rd

Jesus how is that link still up? That ad-supported version hasn't worked in years, It stopped being installable sometime in 07. I wonder how much bandwidth is wasted every month from people downloading that. Sucks that UBISoft didn't just make that version permeant.

You're in for a pleasant surprise. I don't want to over-hype it, but it's a lot of fun to play and is really an enjoyable experience.

I actually logged in to MP last night and there were some people on. It was a blast from the past to say the least. Good times!

I think you will really like the game.....pretty open gameplay....great graphics....great combat.....enjoy the ride.

Man, those screenies look better than I remember. I've played through Far Cry probably 10 times.. I usually stop about 80% in, if not sooner, since I really dig the mercanary fights much more than the trigen, but still.

What mods are you using to make it look better?

I agree with you, that the mercenary fights are just way too much fun

This is what I did to the graphics.

1. Configured the graphics thru the configurator found in the Bin 32 folder of FarCry....It allows you too change the values of alot of different graphics settings......I used the FarCry tweak guide http://www.tweakguides.com/Farcry_1.html to help me out with these values.

2. Any graphic setting that I could not change, I just set to very high in the main graphic settings of the game , under advanced settings.

3. I use the Cold render mode....I like it best....this is just personal preference and this is in the main menu of the game....there is default....paradise.....cold...cartoon and a couple others.

4. I enabled HDR thru the console in game \r_HDRRendering "2"
You can use anynumber between 1-11

5. I put AA on override application setting in my Nvidia Control Panel

6. Also in Nvidia Control Panel.....under texture filtering....I ALLOW negative LOD bias.
