The benchmark tools were good. That's about it though....

Congrats......yes this game is a great experience, indeed.

I originally just wanted to see how this pc ran the game compared to the one I used years ago to play the game.......but once I started the game, I got hooked and just had to finish it.

Have to admit this is one of my favorite PC games of all time. I remember it came out of nowhere and just blew my mind at how astounding it looked. It looks slightly dated now, but still pretty damn good.

At the time I was waiting for HL2 to come out like a lot of other people. Far Cry beat it to the punch which surprised me.

I have a few friends who are big time Apple fan boys and I used to love blowing their minds by showing them Far Cry.

Only things I didn't like about the game:

- The story was corny.

- The monsters were corny too, I would have been perfectly happy just fighting the Mercs.

- About 2/3 of the way through it suddenly becomes incredibly difficult, even on medium difficulty levels. There were a couple of segments I must have replayed 50 times before I actually got through.

And like others have said, the last couple of levels are just you vs. a whole army of boss monsters. But man, the first half of that game was some of the best FPS gaming ever.

Ha hahahahahah! Best line in videogaming ever. And one that was repeated on more than one occasion in the movies.

Speaking of movies, has anyone seen the Farcry movie? Its available on-demand through most TV providers. A truly awful, awful movie. But the curiosity factor makes it worthy of a sit through. It also features the chick who played Mia on Two and a Half Men.

It was one of the first games to come out which actually pulled me away from hardcore playing of Quake 3 Arena since 1999. I still have the installation discs...I will have to see if it works on win7 x64. What can you do to enhance the graphics with ATI cards?

Go to tweakguides.com and they will have all of the settings you need to make the game look its best.

Totally agree. The first part (with all the mercs) was great. If you haven't checked out the matto3 and matto4 mods, you need to. It's all mercs. There are also a few areas of those mods where things can get pretty difficult even on lower levels, but hey, you just need to kills a few more mercs. Just grab another pint and blow away.

Ah yes, I got FC as a Christmas present many years back. Looked really damn good on my since core AMD and 9800Pro. Though I never finished the main story, I was addicted to online play for a long ass time, until I found BF2.

Yes, that was the mod I referred to earlier. It's unfinished and has no real story but it's worth playing just to see how powerful the Far Cry engine was. Here are a few more screenshots I had posted here last year:

That was intentional. The whole thing was meant to be a parody of B-movies. Although the light-hearted story was kind of at odds with the fairly hardcore gameplay.

Loaded this on a friend's computer, patched and ran with all options set to their highest. Absolutely beautiful. Brought back a lot of good memories.

As soon as I can find another CD set then I'll reinstall Far Cry back-on my system.

This engine could still be used today as it has alot of potential....the Delta sector mod is really hard too

I really wish they had finished the Delta Sector mod.

I also really wish that a certain member of the community hadn't pushed the 1.41 patch that basically killed multiplayer (DocSeal for those that remember).

Basically changed the gameplay completely from the way it was. At the time the patch was released, there were only about 4-500 people actively playing, so when it came out and screwed with the commonly enjoyed experience, most of the regulars just bailed.

It was a sad, sad day

Tried it myself, and that appears to have worked.

Are there any texture mods for the standard SP game? The Matto ones look like they're a standalone campaign.

Use the Farcry configurator ...I believe it is in the Bin 32 folder....then go to tweakguides.com and they will explain all the different numbers to put in the configurator...it will look stunning.......have fun.

I think I stopped playing before this happened, but it doesn't make sense to me. The 1.41 patch was user created, no one was forced to apply it, I don't see why it would affect anything. If you're unhappy with it, just uninstall and go back to 1.40.

I have no idea if there are any texture packs or not.

Yep the binocs were brilliant. Beautiful game and great fun, pity the last couple of levels were so rubbish.
