I'm also intrigued by the intro claiming that it's a true story. In the first season, they made repeated reference to what happened 20 (or however many) years ago. So the implication is that this is going to be similarly surreal but based on actual events.

That intro was shared with the movie. It was a joke by the Coens in the original movie and the show is paying homage to that. None of them (the movie or either season of the show) was actually based on real events.

Who was the guy in the barn?

With the (lack of) ears?

Not sure. His story/role might come up again later, or it was just thrown in there for a WTF?!!? moment and to show that the dude does not F around.

Since they're looking for Rye, maybe he was an associate - although I'm not sure they were convinced he was missing at that point. So probably some who owed money.

The dog sure did like the ears...

Since we didn't actually seem him do anything, I am not sure who the real bad arse is.

I like the actors, all first rate. Of course the plot is different, but it feels too much like it's trying to recreate the magic and the same tone of the first season. And it just isn't there.

We have the same smattering of psychos, the same yeah-sure-you-betcha cops with bad accents, the same Joe Citizen element drawn into hiding a crime. It feels like it's following a template, and in only the second season, that isn't good.

I don't care if it isn't the same magic as the first season. It's awesome. Much better season 2 than true detective.

Actually I think they have captured the same magic as Season 1
The overall cast of characters is better.

Even though, as I said earlier, there are a couple of actors whose work I usually don't like...this season has been pretty damned good.

Agreed. I really hate Dodd. lol

God damn, Dodd!
Mike Milligan is just incredible.
And "Bear", Dodd's brother is fantastic.
Hell even Kieran Culkin as Rye was phenomenal.

I personally think they should all just get a collective "best actor" award.

Added spoiler tags

I never "hated" her per se. She's this season's Molly -- annoying but entirely necessary. You actually feel for her a bit with her speech to the Sheriff about living in a museum. All the magazines... she's crazy.

I got $20 says she "escapes" in the end and runs off into the sunset.

Can't get enough Milligan

First time I saw that actor was in the sopranos episode where he played the gangster rapper trying to get money from Hesh.

EDIT: actually he played in The Rock in 96. lol

Haha, yeah, "Massive Genius". I'd just recently watched part of The Sopranos on Amazon and I was thinking he sure looked familiar then the light bulb came on.

This season of Fargo has been excellent. Between last week's episode and last night's episode, I went through and rewatched the entire first season and noticed a few more things tying the two seasons together.

-Younger and older Lou playing guard in front of his own house, then his daughter and son in law's house.
-Older Lou making references back to a massacre in '79 and the bodies being piled high.
-The discussion between Milligan and Gerhardt daughter after she stuck her thumb up his behind. Malvo's fiancee playfully saying she was going to stick her thumb up Malvo's behind later. Maybe North Dakotans have a thumb fetish, or at least a joke to that? Lol...

Probably some other references that I missed or am forgetting about. Wonder if at some point we see a young Malvo and the money being left by the fence for the grocery king to come pick up 8 years later.

It's definitely gotten better and found its own voice. It's been a fantastic series. Milligan reciting Jabberwocky was awesome.

I'm loving this season. It's hard to wait a week in between episodes when it only took me a day to watch the first season. Alas, I've gone through this with a number of shows.

It's funny you mention that because Amazon is running an ad campaign where they talk about the show-hole. You binge watch 52 episodes of something and when you're finally finished, you're overcome by this feeling of emptiness and loss.
