Farscape is scifi/comedy, supposed to be silly and stupid at times.

four seasons isn't really "insta-cancelled" but it should have stayed on the air. Stargate and Farscape are very different shows and attract different audiences. Stargate had a lot less trippy/crazy/hysterical plots and events than Farscape.

Scorpious(sp?) is one of the best sci-fi (or any genre) villains ever, hell he just got his own spinoff Comic series recently.

Ben Browder + Claudia Black are both much much better in Farscape than they were in Stargate SG1. Scorpius makes a great villain who later turns into a more complex character, and the overall quality of the show is very decent (yes, including the writing).

It gets much better, crazier and more epic as it continues. I doubt the story arc was planned out ahead of time like in Babylon 5 seasons 1-4, but it almost feels that way.

Over the series Browder's Crichton goes from fish-out-of-water scientist to galactic badass, and he makes it believable. And fun.

Edit: it's on Netflix streaming now, so no excuse not to give it a try if you subscribe. Just don't give up after 1-2 episodes since it gets much better.

I think the show really picks up at the end of season 1 and goes into bad ass mode in season 2-4.

I am rewatching it on DVD as we speak. near the end of season 1.

One of my favorite shows regardless of genre. I agree with RedCOMET, the first part of the first season you're trying to understand the universe and the characters, and the actors themselves are bonding / learning .. once season 2 kicks off, it really picks up speed, and you get some fantastic TV.

The chemistry between Browder and Black (the two main leads) is amazing, even now I still wonder if there truly wasn't something off-screen we never knew about

Season 1 had some rough spots, couple episodes I can think of that stick out would be the one where John is marooned on a planet with his module, and runs into a native tribe of people and some ridiculous things happen, and a lot of bad acting. The other was an episode where Chiana rebels a bit, and hooks up with a bad crowd of junkies on a "graveyard planet." Ugh, that one makes me cringe just thinking about it.

Some people have problem with the animatronics - namely Rygel (fancy muppet - he really grows on you. Quite a few friends who hated him in the beginning ended up actually liking him quite a bit during the show.

If you're into Sci-fi, you can't go wrong with Farscape. Claudia Black is gorgeous, the show's humor is great, and the writing gets amazing. You owe it to yourself to at least watch through Season 1

I've gotten a few episodes in on Netflix, and have really enjoyed it so far. I need to get back to watching it. Damn women, eating into my sci-fi time. I'm glad I didn't meet her before I watched BSG.

I was on end of job 1 vacation before starting job 2 when scifi did a marathon of all episodes before the final show was released, had seen part of first season before but watched the entire thing over that couple of weeks.

Absolutely worth it!!

The first half of the first season is a little tough to get through but I encourage to watch all of season 1. If you are not hooked by then you won't be. Seasons 2 and 3 are outstanding and most of 4 is as well (a few duds) and the Peacekeeper Wars movie sums up the show nicely.

I still miss this show.

Anyone care to[without spoilers] summarize the overall theme or plot of this show? What makes this show so good? I loved Stargate so sounds like this should be up my alley but I tried to give this a go and I just couldn't get into it after the first few episodes.

Good show. After the second season was green lighted the writers planed out 4 more seasons. At the end of the 4th season Sci-fi canceled it. The Peacekeeppers Wars was a 4 hour miniseries that just sums up what would of happened in season 5.

Watch the first episode and then skip to around episode 12-16. Survive the end of season 1 and season 2 is where it takes off. Second favorite show of all time.

A lot of what has been said basically sums up my opinion.

I blazed through the entire series starting in December or January. It was an excellent series.
The first season was fun, but what really keeps you going is mostly the curiosity in a "just what are they doing to do with the show" style. Season 2 ramps things up, and just keeps hooked.
The entire show has some great drama, many hilarious moments, and the characters really get fleshed out and each character just evolves as more time is spent around the other characters.

Crichton's back-and-forth with Aeryn Sun the entire series is sad in a way, but feels so perfect for the characters. Just watching Crichton's character evolve as the show progresses is just epic. (spoiler without the spoiler - his last moment couldn't have been more badass, and was completely a result of his evolution).
Every actor on the show though really sold their character's progression, and I absolutely loved it.

But Scorpious - he is by far my favorite bad-guy ever invented for the screen.
