this computer i just built starts up EXTREMELY slow for how fast it should be

athlon xp1900+
iwill xp333
pc2700 DDR
40gb maxtor d470 7200rpm ata133
geforce3 TI200
cyberdrive 32x12x48 burner
lite-on 16x48 dvd-rom
cordless PS/2 keyboard
logitech optical mouse

and that it i think...

windows xp = fast on other computers

this computer = windows xp == very slow start-up

i have a p4 system sitting right next to this (p4 1.6a, gigabyte 8irxp mobo, geforce2 mx400, 60gb ibm 120gxp) and it completely rapes this system in startup time, but then again so does my p1 200 (literally)

what is going on? i thought it might be an IRQ confliction, but havnt found anything yet.....

there must be programs starting up that you should remove.

what i mean in the bootup is while its displaying the "starting windows xp" screen

i have a NIC in there, should i try taking that out?

also, i have the memory divider set to 133/166 because the ram is pc2700, so its running at the right speed now....but maybe that messed it up...? its 512mb of it also

ill go try that program now, and then im going to try taking the NIC out...thanks for the help so far

Having a network card always increases the boot time for an OS, mainly because it has to load the network protocols. Usually this is an additional 10 seconds or so, nothing particularly noticeable. But from your description and response, it doesn't seem like you're using your network card for anything, so chances are it is just sitting in your system, forcing the OS to load up with network protocols and also forcing the OS to search for network hosts. Since it can't find any, it resumes the boot process but this generally takes a much longer time.

This is why I asked about the NIC. This is what can take a long time if you are NOT hooked up to a network. If you ARE hooked up, it doesn't add much time at all.

Before I flashed my bios, it took arround 20 secs or so to get into windows. Since I flashed my bios, it takes 1 min to 1 min and 20 secs. When I run bootvis, it says that windows is trying to locate my HD for 1 complete minute !

Do you know how to fix that?

Zukahtah,

I was going to send you a PM, but you have it disabled. Anyway, start a new thread about your problem instead of trying to get help from MrDudeMan's thread. It's just etiquette, you know.
