We only have KFC's up here, and even they are struggling to survive.

New England just has the wrong demographics for good fried chicken

I actually like Boston Market better, but it's not exactly the same as a good ol bucket of fried tastiness

There is a bunch (half dozen or so) Popeye's in CT, and I've seen them in Mass as well. Check their website for locations.

KFC is overpriced and the one near me seems to always staff with the laziest and grumpiest people-the castoffs from Friendlys I guess. How they have stayed in business is a mystery-local traffic pretty much stays away.

Popeye's is OK, but fortunately for my heart I'm not a huge fan of fried chicken.

KFC still has good gravy. A shame the "potatoes" have always tasted like the container they come in....

Surprised that out of all the mentions of Raising Cane's (in the chicken-finger subcategory), I can't believe no one has mentioned Zaxby's.

That's quite a stretch to call it a national chain. No restaurants in kansas, one in missouri, none in arkansas, one in colorado.. none in iowa.

Then what do you call it? Yeah sure its only in 17 states, but those 17 states are all over the place. It is not exactly regional as it is in most geographic regions. Its a small national chain that is in its build out phase. It's not every where because most of the locations are company owned and not franchised out and they are not currently seeking to franchise out any more stores. Going forward they will all be corporate owned.

A regional chain is something like Chicken Express. It has as more locations than Raising Canes, but they are all in TX(mostly in TX), OK, AR and LA(not counting the three in Georgia). Bojangles is another regional chain as it is only in the Southeast. My point is Canes is in most regions, although their foot print is currently small. They are building out quite a bit over the next two years.

KFC and Popeye's taste good but it would be healthier to remove the skin before eating. Not sure if you can order it skinless. I know I'd miss that mouth watering tasty skin though.

Why are you bringing this "healthy" bullshit into the thread?

:awe:

i demand chickens with an even skin-meat distribution

no more bites of chicken breast with a little bit of skin

no more greasy skin with no meat

I remember going to KFC as a kid and liking it a lot.

Not so much as an adult.

I went to Popeye's recently - but it was fuckin' terrible. (And not, as Little Nicky claimed, "Fuckin' Awesome.") It seriously tasted rancid. The biscuit was a hockey puck and the beans and rice were a nasty mess.

IMO, the best "fast food" fried chicken around is the deli at the grocery store.

the hot rotisserie chicken can be very good

warm and fresh

Not sure really, that's a good question. I tend to not think its national if there isn't a store in at least every state.

But it's not national, its a regional thing that the majority of the country does not have access to so it doesn't count.

I almost ate at a KFC a couple weeks ago. I was intrigued by their boneless chicken. (I ate the bones!) But when I got there they were like NO boneless chicken for you! Next!
You would think a chain that is all about chicken would at least have boneless chicken as an option.

It should be national. I think they would make a lot of money. Plus it's not deep fried, it's grilled kebabs

Of the 3 I've only been to KFC. I hate that place. It's universally bad, every location. I dont' know how it stays in business.

Bojangles. Other places do not deserve to be mentioned in the same post...

IT'S BO TIME!!!

bojangles is the greasiest chicken i have ever had. when a piece of chicken litterally leaves a puddle of oil on my plate that is over the top greasy.

i took a pic of it ill have to find it and post it.

Popeyes, the chicken parts are so small its sad. the last time i went the drumstick was pathetic, ive seen chicken wings almost as big.

El Pollo Loco is national even though they don't advertise on the East Coast.

one of those opened up in the mid 1980's not far from my parents house. that place was SUPER busy!!!! Weekend nights were nuts, people would wait an hour to order. i know they raked in the cash but they closed a couple years after i left home now the building is a carwash.

that was the only one i have seen so i thought i twas just a local guy and a chicken joint, i had no idea it was a franchise.

ive never heard of Raising Cains and there is one store here in colorado. the next time im in Ft Collins ill have to check it out.

http://www.raisingcanes.com/our-menu

this is interesting, if you use their site to look for a store, you will see that each store has a unique nick name. like chicken shack, murphys law, the detour, King of the court.

i wouldn't go that far but i think it'd need a good sized presence in at least 3 or 4 regions. jack in the box is a national chain, for example.
